  • What do you think fellow tradeskillers?

What about a nice long terrible quest that would allow us non-gnomes to learn Tinkering as a tradeskill? An even harder quest for people who regularly punt or eat gnomes =) Same deal with alchemy and poisonmaking. Would you all think this would be good/bad?

I don't see any reason to make the races/classes more similiar.

There are some things that need to remain as they are. Gnomes are almost universally accepted as a tinkering race. Period. From a RP standpoint, Gnomes are generally the ONLY race that tinkers. That should remain true in EQ until the days the servers shut down.

Alchemy I view as a medicine man skill and shammies are the only class that I think fall into this category.

Poison could change for all I care. It's a useless rogue skill that very few use. We can only sell it to other rogues that can make it as easily as we can. Nobody that I know uses poisons so I don't care if every class got to make it. Good riddance. This is only my opinion, however. From a RP standpoint, I could see this also being a Shammy skill. Herbs and ingredients can be as deadly as they are useful. A shammy would have knowledge of both.

Overall, I think it's just a bad idea.

I would be against the idea, and I don't think it would ever happen anyway. I like the interdependancy in a lot of tradeskills. If you really want to tinker, or what have you, you can always roll a character who's eligible.

i say no, but it is kinda annoying finding someone who does make the poison that will do it for cheap when doing a quest or 2
(9th ring, iv failed the combine a good 3 or 4 times and failed the quest twice.. i blow about 400p per Mind Melt because noone bothers with the skill it seems and i gotta wait till one appears in the baz =/)

This is an Idea I am not generally in favor of, but also not one I am setting my feet in the ground and saying "NO" too either.

I.E. basically I would do this if there is large community support for it, but I am not planning on doing it, nor will I do it if I feel that the community is too against it.

What about a NPC that if you do the long quest for he will then do the combine for you? Just trying to look at it from a different angle. I personally think that this is what alts are for anyway. I have a Gnome Necro Alt for Tinkering, and a Troll Shaman alt for Alchemy.

Here is a thought..... How about a long intracate quest which when completed allows you to start a new... that's is a completely new... tradeskill....

Personally, my choice would be something that can affect the environment a la carpentry....

To answer the question, I see it as pointless to allow tinkering, poison making, or alchemy to those who can't do it now.

                  Ten.
I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.

I personally feel that the restricted trades should stay that way. I like the interdependency that the trades have, and I don't feel that one character should be able to max everything.

Bad idea. Should just be content with the fact that you can have a tinkerbot now.

Personally, I wish they'd left level restricted trades the way they were. I've never been fond of bot-tradeskills.

You could always have a tinker-bot, it was never level restricted.

Would I personally love to be able to quest / AA and get alchemy, tinkering, poison-making, and forage ? Sure.

Is it something I would support or advocate or even think was good for the game ... No.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

I definately am against the idea. I can't even go the route of creating a tinker-bot since all my char slots have been filled. I still don't suffer though; because a good friend has a highly skilled gnome tinker alt. I just remember to give her first shot at any clockwork gnome bolts that drop and she is more than happy to build items for me.

No. I don't want to see races/classes get melded together so they're all the same. I created a gnome character just so I could do tinkering. Same with my shaman. I actually wish each race/class had more distinct capabilities.
