Second acct got rolled back last night too.. i put 300k on my tinkerbot, raised him from 50-208 or 209 tinkering, 0 to 168 smithing yesterday - it was my last full day off til the summer, working full time + taking 16 credits this semester, spent the whole morning tradeskilling, finally made myself a full set of trophies too...since I had given plat to this toon, poof.... lost all the skillups, and the plat is gone as well. Quite likely I'll be throwing in the towel after all these years of addiction... I can easily pay off a couple credit cards if I sell this acct, and sony's slap in the face makes me care a lot less about continuing to play. My free time is very limited and very precious to me, and this rollback completely negated everything I did yesterday, wasting my last completely free day for months, and dropped my bank by a good bit on top of that. Any plat increase in banks since the patch was reset back to pre-patch status, while any plat decrease in banks remained at the lower level - this wasn't a complete reset to a prior save, it was a selective restoration designed to remove some extra platinum from the economy while polishing up their mistake.

I'm sorry to hear about those innocents who became collateral damage, but I'm also glad that SoE aggressively tracked down as much of the illicit items and cash that they could find. It's been rough (and not over yet, have fun with the thousands of petitions), but it had to be done.

Unfortunately, some of the abusers took advantage of the multiple rollbacks to dupe plat. In some cases, intentionally asking to purchase illicit items from others to trigger MORE rollbacks on their own characters.

So, net result, the abusers still abused, and the rest of us got the shaft.

It probably would have been a good idea to take the servers down as soon as this was discovered, so that the impact could have been minimized. Many of the "affected innocents" would have still been just innocent (and unaffected.) Even if they had to keep the servers down for 8 or 10 hours, in order to decide what to do, and then fix it, they could have at least contained the infestation somewhat.

When I had logged on that night, there were still items floating around. I saw something on one of the vendors that I knew could only be there because of this problem (can't explain any further, sorry; but I'm 100% sure that this item could not have been on that vendor any other way.) I didn't buy it, because by then, I knew what was up. However, I did check that vendor again, and it was gone. I can only assume that some guy came across the NPC, and said, hey this looks neat, and bought them all up, and now is flaming the boards because he was rolled back.

Anyway. . . . .The aggressiveness with which they are addressing this problem is very much apprecaited (and was very much needed.)

I'm sorry for all the "affected innocents" that had to be rolled back, because some people felt they had to take advantage of an obvious mistake.

The fact that they did not immediately take down the servers when the error was discovered shows a conplete lack of knowledge of game dynamics. SOE's lack of immediate action compounded the problem and made it 1000% worse than it should have been. Yet, they continue to stand by their actions. Leadership is sadly lacking here. It makes me reconsider my continued involvement with this game.

              I so agree.

I am of the oppinion that the only real solution is the same as it was when the problem was discovered. Complete rollback. Yes losing 2 days of play sucks, but it is much better, that to do something that does great damage to a small number of pople, while still leaving loopholes for others to exploit.

I have to agree as well. I got rolled back as well. The only thing I can see that could have caused it was another player bought 40p worth of velium from me in the bazaar. And, because my main interacted with my shared bank, he got rolled back as well. Gee, Im sooooo glad the noobs at SOE are *minimizing* the impact on the economy by rolling back 2 of my toons for a whopping 40p. Great job! You save EQ! BAH! Glad to see the old Soviet method of conducting warfare is alive and well: forget precision strikes to reduce collateral damage, just blow up the entire grid square!

Any more of these noobish leadership and policies of running a game and it'll be time to find a new game or increase my RL home brew production. At least then if there is a screwup in tradeskilling I can drink it and be happy

                  Sad, but glad

I wish SOE had let us know you could be rolled back for trading with someone who traded with someone who traded with one of the error traders. Then I would have sat tight and bought/sold nothing. I have three accounts but one mule who does the selling for all the tradeskill items I make. Of course she buys supplies too so I am sure by the time I knew about the issue it was probably too late. I traded to her from my other accounts seven leatherfoot haversack token and five 5 dose essence of ptions. Of course they are all now gone. I hope and trust that SOE will make it right. If not what can I do, I must play EQ.

On the other hand I am very glad they corrected an issue that would have allowed many toons to get free ups on their skills with little effort. At least they have shown they want to correct errors. I feel badly for all of us that lost our items, but hey it is just a game (sobs quietly into her hanky, handcrafted by her tailor)

I am surprised that they kept the servers up and decided to do the rollbacks at little bit at a time. The result of this is the further mix up of rolled backed characters with characters that will be rolled back with characters that don't need to be rolled back. This further results in more characters needing to be rolled back and characters that are rolled back more than once. It also unfortuately results in people being able to purposefully dupe items/plat.

I would hazard a guess that the dupes resulting from the rollbacks are greater than if they hadn't rolled back anyone, or just rolled back the people who directly purchased from the beta vendors.

At any rate, its a huge mess. I haven't had any characters rolled back yet, though it appears this is more due to luck than anything else.

Rollback the rollbacks and let us pick up the pieces, I am sorry Ngreth but your people there at Sony are not doing a good job with this and hurting more than should be with this half mesure they are doing. I really wish this had not happened it would have been better if they had just shut down and then looked for the strings and unraveled it then and there, instead they drug it our with multible rollbacks of players and have effected people who were totaly and completely innocent. I can talk here as I am sitting on two accounts that I cannot pay for and they have been dormant since the 7th of January, yet I am still afraid to pay and log on with this fiasco...lol. I am sickend to my heart at how many have been effected by Sony's mistake, this should have been a non issue , but it is bad. I saw on TV a guy infront of a camera in New York holding a sign saying "Thanks Sony, nice mess!"...lol I think it was on Good morning america or some such...lol.

At this point in time, it is far too late to even thing of a complete rollback to prior to the patch. That should have been done 48 hours ago. Too much time has passed since.

                          Just an idea

                          After doing some research...

Most of the people that are missing platinum in their banks had moved that platinum from char 1 to char 2 on their account. Char 1 was unaffected by this mess and therefore was not rollbacked, the plat will still be missing. Char 2 in some way came to contact with this mess and got rolled back to the point before he ever recieved the pp from char 1. Result: Plat vanished.

Although GMs will not reimburse anything lost due to the rollbacks, I wonder if it would be possible for them to rollback Char 1 as well in this example, which *should* result in the amount of vanished pp being returned to the player.

I just petitionned the idea, if it happens to have succes I will let you all know.
(probably wont... but hey... gotta keep some hope right?)

It is really ridiculous the way the whole thing was handled with the roll-back script created by the same programmers that let the beta vendors on the live server in the first place... The only options should have been: 1) shut down the server with full roll back to before the patch, 2) shutdown the server with manual roll back of anyone that had contact with the tainted good at the 30 minute mark when they noticed the goof, 3) let the server as is but have manual investigation/roll back of ground 0 people and check for obvious abuses... Someone buying a stack of tainted food or trading some summoned pet toys should not have gotten a roll back...

I just cant believe that soe thought that doing things this way was a good way to fix the problem. It wasnt until I ran across a thread on another site that I realized exactly what had been done.

SOE gave all of the plat sellers , farmers, scam artists etc the opportunity of a lifetime.

They did a log series or rollbacks, and told people exactly what they needed to do in order to be rolled back. And of course what they needed to avoid doing to avoid being rolled back.

I didnt understand all of the discussion, it assumed a lot of knowledge I guess, but it seemed to go like this:

Player logs in on wed after the mess has happened, reads the MOTD and immediately goes to their platinum holding bazaar mule.

Player buys all of the highest priced items in the bazaar, bags up those items and all the other stuff they had and goes to pok.

Player buys gems if need be to get rid of rest of pp.

Player then drops the bags onto the ground inside one of the buildings, out of the way.

Player's other account mule then picks up the bags (the discussion indicated laundering the stuff...its possible they meant using a tradeskill container, or maybe sold it to a regular merchant...I didnt understand so am guessing)

Player then has first character run to bazaar and buy tainted stuff, stat food seemed to be ideal. first char then waited to be rolled back, second char avoided any other transactions.

Player doubles their pp, or close to it witgh the help of soe setting the whole thing up (.

Is there any possible way SOE can go through logs and catch these people? Some of these sellers seem to have had 10s of millions of pp before the mess, they must have incredible amounts now.

This was a big problem when it hit...if Im understanding what happened then SOE turned it into a disaster.

I am sure that's exactly what happened, Slig.

The people you described are probably laughing their asses off right now and counting their well-laundered spoils.

All it probably took was dropping something on the ground and picking it up with a toon from a different account and the trail died.

Also .. people apparently are still finding some of these items for sale on normal, legitimate vendors across Norrath at the same prices the Beta merchants sold them for, so they're still in the game to some extent.

Double Experience for a weekend is not going to satisfy the people that got hurt in this unjustly.
