  • Coarse Silks - Again (sorry)

I really am sorry to bang on about this, but given that the new cultural pottery charms will need these, is there no fix in sight to the drop rate of coarse silk?

This isn't just about the fact that everyone does the Creator Missions, and none drop there, becuase even on those missions e.g. those based in The Accursed Nest don't appear to drop them either, no matter how many spider mobs you get.

So, if you are a barbarian, you can expect to have access to GM cultural charms, because your recipie does not need coarse silk. But if you are a high elf, then you stand no chance of seeing your charms enter the market any time soon.

Coarse silks enter the market at aboyut 1/100 the rate of metallic drake scales and glossy drake hides, and us poor silk wearers can't get the cultural armour for love nor money.

The number of Glossy Drake hides has dropped pretty dramatically with the advent of DoD. "The Creator" machine doesn't seem to be running like it used to. Hides are still availible, but now running close to 25k each on Fennin. Admittedely this would be a dream situation for Coarse Spider Silks, but I point it out because it suggests a worsening, not an improvment, in the condition of the DoN GM markets.

With regard to getting drops in Spider missions, is there a minimum average group level required before Silks hit the loot tables? I heard average level of 68 was required before you were "qualified" for the opportunity to get Glossy Drake Hides, but I did not know if the same level requirement applied to Metallic Drake Scales and Coarse Spider Silks.

and this points out the biggest problem with have tradeskill drops that only come from instances. that really is the part that needs to be fixed. these items need to be able to be gotten form regular zones as well as instances. now the drop rate from the instances should be signifcantly better than from regular zones. but getting one scale/hide/silk for ever hour or two of farming from a regular zone should be something that those of us who can't always get a group to do an instance can look forward to. or atleast it would be nice.

Coarse silk has another major problem compared to Scales and Hides, you need at least 2 to make one attempt at a combine so the rate would need to be double that of the other 2 types just to have an even chance of getting enough for a combine.

I thought the silk only dropped in instanced zones? Is it the Nest and Ascent Instanced? Or do they drop in non instanced versinos now also?

I have done a number of Nest instances, killing a wide variety of spiders, and have not seen a single one drop.

                Yes, yes, and yes!

I am not going to purchase 2 additional accounts just so I can farm a zone that nobody wants to go to. And my class (archetype) needs 2x the rares that others do, making xis a sad gnome indeed

I was in the nest, instanced version. I cant think of the name, but one of those is a solo dream spot. I burn double xp, kill all the single drakes until respawn. Make about 3 AA's in 30 minutes, so I like to solo there for some metallic drake scales for guildmates when I have the AA to burn.

Forgot to add, there are spiders in some of the nest instances, its where I got mine at.

                    Agreed

Additionally, I am 21 loots away from my Grandmaster task book. Noone wants to do that content anymore. I would be MORE than happy to sit in the zone and kill 1 mob per 20mins and die 3 times a night just so I can continue.

I can't help but think what is going to happen 3 expansions from now. Will anyone new be able to finish these tasks if they are tied to instances.
Same with spells. Spells tied to intances NOW is great, but spells tied to old content a year from now will be LDON x 3.

Coarse silk does drop in The Nest Instance. There is a mission in the nest that specifically has something to do with spiders, and they dropped one silk for me once. As a plate wearer I didn't much notice until an enchanter friend began drooling...

The same instance also dropped a scale and hide.

I think its the ascent missions with spiders in it that regularly drops coarse spider silks, about 1 pr mission, and is douable by afore mentioned chanter + cleric. Think its the mission where you have to kill a named spider Momma at the end.

Biggest problem for silk wearers is the constant tedious mind-numbly desire for utter boredom that most players seem to have when wanting to do a creator.

People should be randomly banned for uttering "creator" in a lfg channel.

I agree completely. The part about this that has always annoyed me is that not only do you have to trudge thru countless hours to get any number of drops that you need (silk is worst by far, but scales/hides suck too) ... but you have to either convince a couple other people to do it with you or bot your way into it .. which is quite unfair to those with just one account.

I've always thought you should be able to get these instances solo if you prefer and just scale the reward accordingly. Especially if they're gonna stick the super-rare drops in the ones that nobody even does.

Hell, I still need drops for my GM book, too. You can't even bribe people to go do Lavaspinner's missions anymore, let alone stay there until we kill 120 mobs .. and then go back again for more.

I really hope they do something about the drop rates and accessibility on these particular tradeskill drops very soon .. or just open them up to solo and duo runs with a reduced crystal reward. I'm not there for crystals anyway.

Also would be nice if they'd stick a couple more camps of creep reapers somewhere, too. It's getting pretty nasty in CC sometimes, lol.

although i'm blessed with a group of friends who will hunt anywhere i want (and i return the favor), we all have lives and schedules and don't end up getting together more than once a week tops. most often more like a couple times a month, really. so while it's wonderful that they will happily do any missions with me (and even kill stupid Ocean giants in plane of storms for storm volaas hairs for me), none of us are really getting any thing done because things take so dang long to do. we thought we'd do my GM missions first, but the drop rate was so abysmal for us that we're barely halfway through and here we are with a new expansion and still MORE instances already...

and don't even get me started on LDON... once again, all those schedules and such we have to deal with, make it really hard to devote blocks of time to EQ, when someone's always having to run off to change a diaper, answer the door, put dinner in the oven, etc.

instances are a nice idea for some things, but solo instances would be a MUCH more fair idea (with a nice long timer) for those of us unable to devote big blocks of time to EQ.

hm. i didn't mean for this to be a rant. i love EQ and have a great time playing in my little 15-30 minute chunks. i'd just like to have options to move forward on my quests by myself. i've accepted that raiding isn't for me and my schedule, but tradeskilling IS, at least i thought it was.

I think that, if they're going to force us into instances...

Then any instanced mission where the group level average is 63 or better should have a chance of dropping Coarse Spider Silk, Metallic Drake Scales, Purescale Ore & Glossy Drake Hides. Say, perhaps a 1-in-50 chance, randomly checked for each appropriate Mob?

If the group level average is 68, then that chance should at least double.

This would give people reasons to do Lavaspinner's Lair & Stillmoon Temple missions. It would also allow for people working on their GM Quests to have some chance of picking up supplies they will need once they finish their quest.

I also agree that Mobs in The Nest (& the Ascent perhaps. Basically any zone that you really should be at least 68 to hunt successfully in) should have a small chance of dropping thse items as well.

Just solo'd some more in the nest today[instance], since I had some time before work and got another silk to drop. The mission was specifically called: Lost Comrades. I have personally never completed the mission, I just like to solo in it since I can get all single pulls until respawns.
