I would think there is a Spreadsheet which explicitly shows drop rates by MOB, by percentage, by estimate of influx per unit time, or something along those lines.

In any case, I expect there is some way to make an apples to apples comparison between the drops of Metallic Drake Scales, for example, and Coarse Silk.

It takes twice as much Coarse Silk to make a comparable piece of Silk Armor as it does Drake Scales.

So, look at the Metallic Drake Scale Drop rate and sources. Adjust the Coarse Silk drop to 2X the rate Metallic Drake Scales and patch.

That's the version I have percolating in my mind.

I could be completely off base.

Coarse silk drops at least as much as metallic drake scales and glossy drake hides, if not twice as much already.

The problem is noone does the missions where coarse silk drops. The ascent mission amost yields one silk each time, which is more often than what a creator yields in scales and hides.

If they just made the Ascent mission reward as many crystals as Creator, or even added spiders to creator or something.

Despite being a plate wearer I would prefer they made a creator reward 20 crystals instead, so people without imagination and curiosity would be forced to try something new...

Except that it doesn't. I've done Death Comes Swiftly half a dozen times, and never seen silk one.

I've done this mission for 2 weeks, level 70 all, at least 30 times and there hasn't been a single coarse silk drop.

"Death Comes Swiftly" is the name of the mission.

Compare this to a Creator mission, which easily drops MDS or GDH at least once a mission on average.

Kibber, could you give more details as to what exactally you do to get about one silk each time? Maybe there is something everyone is missing? IE. Name of mission, at what point in the mission do you get your drop, any details that might be relevant like lvl etc.?

The reason I suggest this is that I've heard before that some people have less trouble getting the silks than others and I want to see why there is a disconnect there. If it is a matter of perception?

            Thanks!

One MDS/GDH per Creator mission? HAH... I went a month straight of doing 3-6 creator missions a day and not one dropped. Unlucky as heck is all I can so to that.

Death Comes Swiftly just needs a crystal boost, not creator getting crystals taken away. DCS isn't all that bad of a missions, but considering that it's not worth that many crystals if I remember right, it's not worth the time to do it.

Drop rates are rare items are always going to be disputed. To the person that gets 1 MDS or GDH per creator... congrats, you are excessively lucky or do very few creator missions. To the person that gets 1 CSS, congratz, you are one of few people actually farming these.

I will not assume either is not telling the truth based off my own personal experiences, but I do no the fact that I have not been lucky enough clearing every drake and every spider in the respective missions to see those kinds of drop rates.

                The reason is.
I am told to fix all of cultural drops at once. Ones that drop too often and ones that drop to rarely, across all levels. My list is about 40 items I have to look at. I was also ordered to try and find alternatives, before just increasing drop rate. The Database query to find appropriate level items literally takes 30 minutes to run, and it is "blind" it can actually choose things that don't drop. So then I have to go actually look, see what drops... etc...

Plus there is the larger overall impact mentioned by a few above.

Sulfur and Saltpeter were two items, with minimal impact, that the decision was straight up just increase the drop rate 10X

Also 10X increase is easy... anything less is much more difficult where I have to litterally... put in new numbers... see the effect try again, etc... until I get the right balance of not nerfing what already drops while increasing the target.

With all of those restrictions... I just have not found the time to finish the work (I am at the finding alternate drops stage...). As it is... the drop rate is NOT at the rate the community wants, and will not be (I.E. Sishar scales...) *BUT* there are many items on the list (almost all) that are even more rare than Maddoc wants, and will be increased... it looks for the rarest things the drop rate will be increased six times or so what it is, on average. It will be less common than Sishar scales, MUCH more common than coarse silk. And yes... silk will drop twice the rate of leather/metal.

This will likely be my last comment on this. I cannot defend it because I am just do not have the authority to change it.

Ngreth, your work at SoE, and especially your posts here giving us what information you're allowed is greatly appreciated. Even for an Ogre, you've got a very full plate in front of you, but by all appearances you're chowing down with gusto My thanks to you, and the Denmother for providing this place for all of the Tradeskillers to gather, and to the mods here and devs at SoE that help make it all happen.

                        Indeed, thank you.

I do hate to harp on a subject. Just that I've got pieces ready to go for new augs collecting bank-dust .... no armor to stick em in.

It gets quite frustrating looking at the bazaar list and seeing other GM armors for sale (and lots of scales/hides separately), while there's still no silk to be found.

I'm sure you get just as frustrated that you can't fix everything right away that you know needs fixing.

Oh .. and just go ahead and up silk drops 10x, too. No reason to put yourself thru all that other number-crunching.

                          thanks ngreth =)

and Wymp, i'm sure you know this already, but you can put your GM aug on any level of armor. Journeyman armor, if you like. just pointing it out as i've got that question a few times from other frustrated shoppers when they exclaim at my mixed-up augs and armors (i've got a collection of expert's, master's, and GM armors with a mix of master's and GM augs)

For the umpteenth time, if you want coarse silk, QUIT SETTLING ON DOING CREATOR MISSIONS!

If you can't find ppl to do Ascent/Lavastorm spider missions, then go do DoD missions, etc .... or better yet, make your Creator group do Plunder the Hoard ... nothing changes ppls minds and opens it to new possibilites quicker than a mission that is faster, easier, and pays out more crystals. PTH is the first step to breaking choads out of the Creator cycle.

{Heck}, do Drake Eggs and insist that the spider side cave be cleared as part of accepting the mission.

And, if you are only doing DoN through pickup groups ... try picking up your OWN group.

No reason to change coarse silk drop rates ... just need to change ppls attitiudes towards doing the missions where they can drop.

First off, please calm down. Yelling and screaming doesn't belong in here.

Second, there's a few flaws in your logic. You won't get Coarse Spider Silk in DoD missions. And telling people "do other missions" doesn't help unless you say "I have gotten X spider silks every time I did the mission named ABC." There are dozens of DoN missions; few drop silks, just like few drop hides or scales. If you've found a mission that's good for dropping silks, please mention it. If you have some other ideas on how to get silks, put them forward. But please don't rant or yell at people.

I agree, the Creator mission is one thing that's wrong with EQ right now. People settle on doing what's easy and fast and don't want to try other things. Pretty sad.
