  • misty acorns drying up?

I'm trying to accumulate Misty Acorns for a skillup run, and they're proving more elusive than usual. I know I've found them before as both ground spawns and forages. So I know what they look like as ground spawns. But over the past week, I've spent somewhere from 6 to 10 hours foraging, while running around looking for spawns. (Admittedly not all of that time was running around. Some of it was me reading books waiting for the key to pop. ) I've gotten the usual handful of forages, but ZERO ground spawn acorns.

I thought maybe a post I'd seen was right, that acorns spawned during or after a rainfall, and that their absence could be due to the relatively recent introduction of seasonal weather. But the snows have ended now and it was raining earlier tonight, and still nothing.

So I'm sort of curious now. Am I just having bad luck, or have Misty Acorns stopped appearing as ground spawns? I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has found them as ground spawns since, say, mid-June.

Im getting the same results on my Ranger too. 4 hours last weekend running around misty and no ground spawns at all. Just over a year ago, I would have got 2 or 3 stacks minimum. But now, nada.

There used to be a variety of ground spawns of Misty Acorns, but that was changed to only a single ground spawn in each of the four quadrants of Misty Thicket.

I used to pay newbies (back when there were such a thing in Misty Thicket) to collect them for me and would easily get a stack or two in 20 or 30 minutes. Unfortunately, those days are gone.

ok so the ground spawns are basically nonexistent now. has anybody gotten a good forage rate off them?

I found 2 ground spawns in the space of a minute a couple of weeks ago on my haffer ranger. I don't know the exact date, but mid-June.

Ok, so some other folks are seeing the same problem as I, but you've managed to find some recently. That's all consistent with Drukin's claim:

But Drukin, are you saying there are now just four places where they can spawn? Are those locations known? Or do they still spawn all over the place, but limited to one at a time per quadrant? It seems like even if there are only four, those of us who've been scouring the thicket would've stumbled across them by now.

The latter - only one at a time per quadrant.

There was a post about it a while ago, I'll try to find a link.

If you observe the map of the Misty Thicket, you'll see that the Wall splits it into east and west halves. Draw an imaginary line across it from the west side to the east to split it again into north and south, and you'll see four quadrants. The acorns spawn one in each quadrant when they spawn, although it's rarely if ever in the same place within the quadrant. So, start your search in one corner of a quadrant, and scope across it in a search pattern. When you find an acorn, move to the next quadrant and keep looking. This way, you don't end up searching a lot of ground in a quadrant you already cleared, so you can spend more time in the others. I often find three in fifteen or twenty minutes this way when the zone is empty, and sometimes all four.
The original post I was looking for, complete with image, was on the old ezboard I think. I had no luck finding it unfortunately. The above post by Silverfish explains it maybe a little better though.

Ezboards got hacked about a month ago. You will not likely every find anything that WAS on ezboard again It was a disgruntled employee who also destroyed the backups... so... poof, gone.

I can personally attest to the fact that ground spawns are still nice and healthy. this "one in four" thing simply isn't true.

you're looking for a small light-green square. It's flat, so it's going to be difficult to find if you don't know what you're looking for. The spawns are probably random now, but possible to find for the attentive.

well - that's good to hear since I tried two times (at different hours of the RL day) and saw zero ground spawns!! wonder if I was just unlucky and somebody beat me to them?!

There was a thread on this back in January- you can find it here:

                          http://mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/show...ighlight=acorn

At the time, I had a ranger and set him up to do an 8-hour test; here's my post from that test:

                          >>>>Ok, back from work and have the tally for the day's foraging in Misty >>>>Thicket (approximately 9 hours, skill of 200, 64th Level Ranger)

                          60- Black Roots
                          57- Roots
                          45- Pods of Water
                          42- Vegetables
                          24- Berries
                          17- Fruit
                          15- Misty Acorns
                          10- Fishing Grubs
                          3- Rabbit Meat
                          1- Sweetened Mudroot

Now, the Mudroot is Lore, so going back through the spam window I counted 29 additonal Mudroot forages during the course of the day. Also, any of the consumables may have been eaten during the day, as I was'nt carrying any food. I realize this is useless information, for the most part, but thought Firehopper might find it interesting

                            not completely gone

The last time I went and spent time looking, I still didn't find any ground spawns, but another player in the zone did and I paid him for it. So they do seem to still be spawning, just much more rarely. Bah. I'd set up a foragebot, but I'm skittish since a guildie says he did in fact get into trouble once for doing so.

I got my normal 12 per zone run. Nothing changed as far as I can tell. Took me 10 minutes.
