I finally found some myself: two of them close together (a few feet at most,
I could pick them both up without moving). That does seem to disprove the one-per-quadrant theory. I'm also curious about the person getting 12 in a 10-minute run; that sounds as though they have a path that tends to hit the spawn points. Are there few enough spawn points that we could hope to list them all? I'd love to help maximise acorn production!
The pair I found was at neg 667, pos 927, neg 41. If anyone feels like noting the /loc when they find a spawn, I'm happy to compile a list.
I tend to make a trip back "home" to Rivervale to sell and whack Nillipuss if he is up at the end of a game session. I also tend to make a lap around Misty Thicket to make a quick check for acorns. I used to find or forage at least one. I went a month I bet with out finding or foraging one and began to wonder if they ganked the rate further, bet I forage 5 mudroots for every acorn I find. Well, finally last week or so, first tap of that forage button after zoning in I get an acorn. Wander towards ZI to RV and find the first ground spawn I have seen in ages, forage button pops again I hit it and VOILA! a third acorn!! WOOT!
No clue any more what time of year it was though.
I think something did happen to the appearance rate on them and it was quietly fixed. I have not gone after them specifically for some time but I sure found fewer of them for several weeks then I used to.

Okay, I can definitely put this thread to rest. Someone's been coming to my Buyer in the bazaar and selling me stacks of acorns at a shocking rate. She's been averaging about 30 minutes per stack, and says she's picking them up fresh. She believes there are 20 spawn spots in each "quadrant" of Misty, and she has them marked on her map, and just goes around and checks them all. Says they spawn quite quickly. So indeed, if we can just learn all the spots, sounds like there'd be plenty of acorns for everyone, even those of us making haversacks or skilling up on vale reinforced!
Guess I'll have to make a concentrated effort to locate the spawn points. (I thought about following her around, but (a) it seems rude and (b) I need to go to work; not sure which reason dissuaded me more .) In the meantime, since she's willing to sell them to me at 700pp per stack, where the going rate in the bazaar on my server on the selling side is more like 2000pp, I'm happy to let her do the legwork!
Well, I could not find a pattern. A stack in 30 minutes? 12 in 10 minutes? I really need to figure this one out. I found 4 ground spawns in half an hour. I checked all quadrants. I tried to concentrate on one quadrant, but apparently I chose the wrong one as the next 30 mins yielded 0 ground spawns.
As for foraging, I got 2 foraged ones during that hour (using a druid and a ranger, both with 200 foraging and both with 1AA of Natures Bounty or whatever the name of the double forage AA is). I got 17 Mudroots.
FWIW, the locs I found my 4 are: (n456, n823), (n637,p146),(p442,n1058) and (n1031, p122).

Thanks! I actually have yet to find a repeat spawn (i.e., a spawn at the same loc I or someone else reported previously), but if the person I talked to is right there's at least 80 of them, so I'm not surprised yet. I figure I'll just keep recording them and eventually I'll have a full list, I hope.
In case anyone else is keeping track also, I found four more today: (n369, n2044); (n587, n1577); (n752, p670); (n737, p632). Note that the last two were very near each other, like the pair I found before. I don't know if that means the spawns have a small random modifier to their locs, or if there really are multiple spawn points close together.
I also have a theory that the spawns might tend to be near the bases of a particular type of tree (oaks, obviously), but I don't have enough examples yet to test the theory.
So just got the halfling to 300 and was annoyed about the forage rate of Misty Acorns. Some searching and I find old threads, and this one I'll revive. With the new Misty Thicket, are these still groundspawns as well as on forage table, or are the ground spawn days gone with new Thicket?
Ran around for quite some time with both /showgrass on (seemingly waste of time) and /showgrass off. Neither way did i see anything resembling a groundspawn. Might have missed em /shrug.
Another thought, do groundspawns such as this disappear with /showgrass off? If so, in here I nearly defy anyone to find a groundspawn in new Misty Thicket.
Yes they still spawn. I got a few just last week while escorting an alt to Runny. I had showgrass off and the groundspawn was much easier to see than in the old Misty.
Thank you for the idea to turn off the grass. I have been in MT trying to get the acorns and have not seen a ground spawn since the zone was given a facelift. My foraging is maxed and I have the foraging machette but it is still a slow go. Off to eat pie and look for the elusive nuts. (the ones on the ground)
