The Complete and Finished Guide to DoN Smithing

I really loathe the idea of having to buy my crafted armor from other tradeskillers, because I'm high enough level to wear the good stuff but not high enough to make it.

I finished the Journeyman's Vah Shir chain set. It's called Journeyman's Khala Vir <armor>. The walkthrough here is pretty accurate but here are some specifics for the Kitties.

The Task for the books starts in Shar Vahl from Vuro Padfoot and looked a little tough but not impossible to be soloed at the recommended level for the armor requiring killing Owbears and Recondite Bandits in Paludal Caverns. Would be quite easy grouped or even duoed though.

The Porous Mineral Blocks drop in Netherbian Lair from any Netherbian (drones and warriors, not sure about the named ones). Again, a little tough to solo at 20.

The supplies to make the patterns can be purchased from Jala or Lyjak and the items to make molds and the Ancestral Acylia ore can be purchased from Arms Historian Qua.

The Cultural Forge is in Master Barkhem's shop. It's the new one near Barkhem not the one around the corner in the back. It is not labelled as a Vah Shir Forge either.

Don't make the same mistake I did and go farm acrylia. The armor uses Ancestral Acrylia which is purchased form Qua not the dropped variety.

I haven't done the augments yet due to the time so I'll work on them tomorrow.

It's late and I'm very tired and my screenshots didn't come out so I might add the stats later after I've had some time to sleep.

P.S. HE does not say he can't give me the Lavastorm task.. He just doesn't respond at all to "Lavastorm Mountains" or any variant of that.

Having a rough time finding the Book Binding, Quil & Parchment/Vellum. Checked every vendor in Neriak (I'm sure I missed the one that had it) as well as ever vendor in Oggok & Feerrott (again, I'm sure I missed the one...). I'll check Paineel tomorrow, the last city in which I am welcome (oh guess Shar Vhal as well, and maybe SH).

Anyhow, I did the quest for the Ancestral Armor book, and I also completed the tasks for Journeyman's, Expert's and Master's Symbol pattern books. I've made a backpack full of molds and I will make a backpack full of master's symbol patterns as soon as I find the above items.

I have found various waters for symbol making. Just need to farm some shissar scales (yuck) and I can turn out a few master's symbols. At least I have a friend who still wants the kitty mask.

Oh, I am lvl 68 and cannot get the GM symbol pattern book task, so it is either a lvl 69 or 70 task, or one must have higher than 250 skill to get the task.

where can you find the waters needed? im barbarian. lvl 66 with 252 skill unmodded thank you last minute sickles =) and he wont give me the broodland quest either. so maybe 69, 70? or dreading it but maybe 300 unmodded skill...

pita too just when you think quest is done he sends you out again. least he could do is give yah a lil xp like aid grimel

The Barbarian guy wouln't give me the quest at level 69. Looks like you need to be level 70 first.

I am doing the quest for Iksar armor pattern book...I have 3 of the items, but the last one, 'a scroll for the pages' has me stumped. Any ideas?

EDIT: for reference, the other items needed are Bloodgill scale, bloodstone ring, and cats eye agate.

Xulan, where in Neriak did you find a vendor that sells the materials for the molds? The huge block of clay, compactable backpack specifically. I can find high quality firing sheets and sculpting tools everywhere.

Not the same Quill

The quill you want for the book combine is "Quill", not "A Quill", is non-stackable, and free. I found it, as well as all the other components (Compacted backpack, Book Binding, various qualities of Velium, Roll of Parchment) on the "Tailoring Vendor" in Felwithe (downstairs at Paladin Guild). Check your "Tailorin Vendor"s in your home town.

All of the waters I found were in guild halls where the diety was a possible choice. If they are spell casters, I found them on spell vendors at the bottom of their inventories. (cleric guild had innorruk, caster's guild had solusek ro, etc).

I will check all the tailoring guys again (very possible I missed "the one.")

I could just go get the stuff with an alt, but I do not wish to ferry book bindings via the shared bank. But I'm going to this time so I won't be stuck at this point for now =P

EDIT: Nm, it was at the one tailoring vendor I did not check, and I even remember skipping him last night on accident and meant to go back but forgot =D The stuff for DE is in commons btw, on the only tailoring vendor in the zone.

Where the quests sends you depends on race. Wood elf sent me to Acrylia Caverns and Thundercrest for my last two tasks. I was able to get all 4 quests at level 70 and a smithing skill of 237 ( can't remember if I had my 15% mod item on at the time) and tailoring of 250. Another note is I am not DoN enabaled so it seems those who don't purchase can still do the first 3 levels.
