Gee, really, shadeling silk you say? I had no idea, thanks for the tip. (well, duh! Silly Cartwright )

That's not the point of this thread, we know about the alternative, but as Kyros said, shadeling silk is of NO use whatsovever if you have lots of stacks of cat/wolf/bear pelts just sitting in the bank.

Spiderling silk drop rates were negatively affected when SOE implemented newbie armour quests, and the drop rate needs to be reviewed. This thread is a great initiative to collect a sample of drop rate info to prove to SOE that there is a problem.

      Drop data for Lesser Faydark:

      50 "a spiderling"

      Empty: 0
      Spiderling Silks: 49
      Spiderling Eyes: 41
      Spiderling Legs: 60
      Spider Legs: 10
      Giant Wood Spider Thorax: 25
      Giant Wood Spider Femur: 14

Most that a single spider dropped was three silks. Compare this to several months ago, when these two spiderling usually dropped FOUR silks each time (and up to 7!).

I couldn't agree more. I'm going to compile the data, and add it into the top 10 list, because this is already one of our issues.

Edit: This is what I have so far:

Averaging everything together, we have a 24% drop rate (the 49/50 in LFay is skewing the results a bit. If we exclude that one, we get a 15.5% drop rate over all.)

Can someone else kill 50 "a spiderling" in LFay and see if that drop rate holds up, or if it was just a lucky streak in the RNG.

Nolrog, do give SOE both figures, especially with a notation that the two static spawn spiderlings in the brownie village in Lfay have never been representative of the drop rate in any of the other zones

I need to make my sister some Holy Cake anyway, so if nobody else does LFay before I get home, I'll go kill the spiderlings this evening. Little meanies never drop a single silk for me anyway!

As far as I know, there are no "a spiderling"s in LFay - only two named spiderlings, which is where Cubwynn's data most likely comes from (he's mentioned farming them in numerous other posts, so feels like a safe assumption).

Maevenniina is right, the 'a spiderling' mobs in LFay have always been little silk factories.

They are also in a very difficult place to farm, compared to most of Norrath's spiderlings. Kind of a risk-vs-reward thing. Certainly no newbie is going to be hunting these things.

Off the top of my head, I think the ones in the brownie corral are just called 'a spiderling' - looked it up on allas and they do indeed list 'a spiderling' in Lower Faydark as the only source in the zone for spiderling silk although it doesn't specify that these are the ones in the corral.

You may be getting confused because of people's habit of naming the little guys I've seen them called Bob a lot and I think there was a Harry too. Personally, I like Rod and Todd myself

AFAIK, they were never named, just some of us around here jokingly call them Cletus and Hank, hyuk hyuk

Actually, my shaman went from 0% in level 9 to 0% in level 11 on just those 50 spiderlings (well, and 3 skeletons that wandered by... ). I can go back and do another sample if need be. Those two spiderlings are level 9-12 and decent experience. You can pull them through the village without aggroing any of the brownies. I just think it's funny when "a giant spider" walks past me while I'm fighting a yellow spiderling, and the giant spider is light blue.

Historically, though, those two spiderlings had very high yields of silk (they are being tended to by a brownie farmer, you know!). I have several screenshots of getting 6 and 7 silks from a single spiderling. If you were to take all the spiderling eyes and spiderling legs that dropped in my sample and change them into spiderling silks, THAT is what their yield used to be like.

*chuckle* like Maeve said... those are just our personal names for them. Sometimes you get a wee bit off when doing long camps ;-) The mobs are named "a spiderling".

Actually, Lesser Faydark used to be a lowbie zone like East Commonlands. The little brown death machine brownie scouts were added for the druid epic in the Kunark era and the zone became a ghost town (which I ranted about long and hard... level 40 wandering mobs in a level 9-15 zone, KOS to all mobs that run at SoW speed and are basically visually impossible to see in a dark zone... what were they thinking? "A brownie scout has rooted you for a ridiculous amount of non-melee damage.. A brownie scout has nuked you for an obscene amount of non-melee damage. You have died. In a dark, difficult to navigate zone, no less. Sucks to be you! Hope you did a /loc! LOADING, PLEASE WAIT."). Even Equestrielle used to be GOOD, and was much rarer then... seeing her wasn't a terror, it was a rare delight.

It's not difficult to get there, it's just tucked out of the way and therefore the out-of-sight/out-of-mind principle usually applies. And like I said, you can pull the spiderlings without aggroing the brownies (use a non-damaging spell like a slow or snare).

Not typical newbie fare, but it's there.

Bah, I must have been thinking of Gukta and/or Ak'anon then ... I know at least someplace in EQ the "pet spiderlings" are named, would've sworn Brownies were one of um. Guess not

drop rate in Nektulos on 50 arachnidae spiderlings:

                          silks - 13
                          eyes - 18
                          legs - 29
                          spider legs - 10
                          femurs - 23
                          thoraxes (thoraci?) - 16

no empty corpses. I was going to kill more, but tiredness took over. you know, all those kills still haven't made up for all the times I've walked into a spider web...

Kelse, perhaps you are thinking of the pet spiderling named Charlotte in steamfont. Out by the windmills. She is one of the yellow spiderlings however, not a brown one.
