      Shadeling silk isn't plentiful either

I've had a young char hunting the worms in shadeweaver, both in the Pit and up above. IMO the shadeling spawn and drop is nothing like it used to be. Both in the Pit and up above, the spawn is about 4-6 a wave. Used to be that the wave would keep coming faster than * ANY * char could kill them (I'll exclude the AOE'ers). Now, many are empty or have other newbie items. Rarely get two on a worm. Wish I had done the 50 sample/kill rate to see.

Drop rate for North Ro : 50 Kills
        Desert Spiderling Hairs - 10
        Spiderling Eye - 10
        Woven Spider Silk - 12
        Spiderling Legs - 9
        Dune spiderling Tibia - 1
        Empty - 19
        Spiderling Silk - 14

All mobs at north camp seem to share PH. 50 kills is a long camp.

Well, I have been doing my level 39 Bard doing farming for silks and doing the Fletching quest at the same time. The spawn cycles seem to be somewhat dependent on what is being killed (beetles/scorps) from the trash, and highly dependent on some undetermined timecycle. The Grimling Skellys, Young Hoppers and Xakra worms seems to spawn heavy waves in cycles while showing up periodically at any time. The Grimling Runts occasionally and for short periods will spawn in a wave where you might get 20-30 rapidly and then have hours without seeing a single one while clearing everything.

Even is the slow spawn cycle for Xakra, if you kill 8-10 beetles, about 3-5 Xakra will spawn - almost always.....

          I did a run of 50 Xakra to get a tally yesterday;
          none - 13
          1 - 25
          2 - 8
          3 - 3
          4 - 1

          Total = 37 silks for 50 kills.
2 silk = 1 thread, so that is just less than 1 stack / 50 kills.

I don't have any tally for what it used to be in the past....

The Xakra only spawn at night. During the day i think it is bugs of some sort. When it gets close to night the Xakra will respawn in place of the bugs when a bug is killed. IF no one kills any of the "day time" mobs non of the night time mobs can spawn. Baby hoppers spawn all the time but the Xakra and the bugs are on a day/night spawn cycle.

Sorry forget the "day time" mob. It has been a longgggg time since I was there.

Always amazed me at how folks got away with that. There must be some VERY LAZY people out there.

the way i farm spiderling silks (actually wolf pelts, bear pelts and spiderling silks), i hire 2 newbies in everfrost to loot, or hire someone from guild who has bveen begging for plat. I charm me a ice giant, drag him over to the newby area, climb half way up the wall near pok book, and sick the IG on anything i can see. Have the newbies loot everything. I generously pay them for their time (about 200-500p an hour, heck all they are doing is looting stuff and they get to keep/sell what i dont need), in return, they give me any lq/mq/hq pelt and spiderling silks. if they are true newbs, i'll buy them a large sewing kit and skinning knife and have them make the silk thread and/or leather paddings. No, i'm not taking advantage of them, i'm teaching them a valuable lesson (and getting their skills up) on how to make money for themselves once i am done with their services.

With this method, i get about 2-4 STACKS of leather padding in an hour.
I know this is a silk discusion, but there is silk threads in leather padding.

I had a surprising run of silks in Butcherblock Mountains yesterday.

                  16 spiders yielded 21 silks.

I did not keep track of the other drops though.

Well, it does seem that the drop rates have been increased, at least on test. I was in Innothule last night doing some farming, and I was able to get 3 stacks of silks in under an hour. This is a big increase from when I was there last month. I wasn't keeping exact numbers, but it was averaging around 1 silk for every 2 kills. Next time I go in, I'll keep better numbers to report. The last time I was in Innothule, I got 13 silks in 50 kills.

I've also been thinking about the drop in spiderling silk drops, since SoE says they didn't change the drop rates. I'm wondering if when they added all the items for the newbie armors into the drop tables if that effected the overall drop rates. I mean, if they added 15 new things to the database and gave them equal chance of dropping with everything already there, it would certainly have the effect of reducing the drop rate on everything that had previously been in the database. So, they wouldn't have purposely reduced the drop rate, but may have had that effect unintentionally.

The one per 2 kills rate would be about the same I saw in Ferrott the other day (on Xev). Which is a fine rate with me (needed 24 silks for a fishing pole run). I think common wisdom is that when they added the newbie armor drops, they did not recalculate the silk drops, which caused the shortage.

Thanks SoE folks for helping with this issue.

Oddly, in spite of the increased drop rate, the supply and price have not changed in bazaar, I guess the farmers are just farming the same amount, in a shorter time.

The drop rate increase has not gone live yet. It will get push with the Dec 15th patch.

It's always dark there, and the Xakra are always up. Killing everthing ensures even worm spawning. I was easily able to gather 300 shadeling silks in a few hours (while my daughter was killing greyhoppers with a dire charmed Hand of Seru on the other system - Hopper Slaughter Picture! ).

Anyway.. skill Shadeweavers and head to Shar Vahl for Shadeling Silks.
Thank you, but as I previously replied to another person also helpfully suggesting we use shadeling silk instead...

That's not the point of this thread, we know about the alternative, but as Kyros said, shadeling silk is of NO use whatsovever if you have lots of stacks of cat/wolf/bear pelts just sitting in the bank.

Luckily, the problem seems to be fixed now.

Post change comparison: This is on Test, btw.

Went to my favorit spot in Innothule Swamp with my little 25 Ranger.

                                Pre-change: Overall silk drop rate = 13/50 = 26%
                                Kills: 50
                                Empty: 9
                                Silks: 13
Eyes: 30 (note, I combined spiderling eyes and crab spiderling eyes. In the post list, I broke the crab spiderling eyes out to other)
                                Legs: 13
Other (includes carapace, meat, flesh and some other oddities for quests): 16

                                Post Change: overall drop rate = 56/100 = 56%
                                Kills: 100
                                Empty: 15
                                Silks: 56
                                Eyes: 44
                                Legs: 24
Other (includes crap spiderling eyes, meat, flesh, carapace and other oddities): 64

I was quite please. I did the above numbers in a little more than an hour. Would have done more, but I ran out of spawns and had to kill other stuff waiting for respawns *grin*. If I get a chance later this week, I'll do a comparison of Everfrost. I may just be ready for that smithing run sometime soon.
