  • Spiderling Silk Drop Rate Data

I decided to get some hard data on how the spiderling silk rates have dropped since the newbie armor quests were implemented (the ones with all the no drop stuff). I only had time to visit two zones, but I intend to hit all the zones where spiderlings are so that maybe the developers will see that this problem is NOT just in Everfrost, but across ALL zones where spiderlings spawn.

I killed 50 spiderlings in each zone, and noted how many were empty, how many silks actually dropped, and how much of all the other things dropped. Here goes:

    FIELD OF BONE

    spiderling silks-13
no drop giant wood spider femurs-16
    spiderling eyes-10
    spiderling legs-10
    spider legs-8
no drop giant wood spider thorax-27
    empty-5

    FEERROTT

    spiderling silks-10
    dark colored fungus-7
    spiderling legs-10
    black spider silk-8
    spiderling eyes-8
    light colored fungus-3
    pristine spider silk-5
    spider legs-3
    multi colored fungus-3
    empty-10

Oh, I play on Bertox server, btw. I will edit this as I gather more data.

Just checked a couple of databases, and Cabilis has NO quests that require the no drop thoraxes/femurs.....

    EAST COMMONLANDS

    silks-7
    spiderling eyes-9
    spiderling legs-12
    empty-31

Thank you for your work. I think you are doing everybody a service by collecting this data. It has long been said that the drop rate of spiderling silk was too low. I must admit I do not need very much of it - I finished my skillups just in time. However, I believe the drop rate needs to be changed to help the up & coming tradeskillers.

I look forward to reading the data as you get it.

Shadeling silk is just as good-- and it drops plenty off of worms in shadeweaver's.

Actually, Shadeling Silk only works with Rockhopper pelts, so it's not as good. If you already have a stock of, say, cat pelts, shadeling silk is useless to you unless you can swap your cat pelts for rockhopper.

Spiderling silk can be used with cat, wolf, bear, and rockhopper pelts.

Well, if you make Blessed Fishing Rods like I do, you need spiderling silks to make silk cord for the recipe.

I need six spiderling silks to make one cord, and in maybe an hour farming spiderling silks in any of the common areas, I can find enough to make say.. two cords, if I'm lucky. I'm a druid so I can't track for distance, which makes it a little more difficult. Plus I'm not rich so I can't pay 15-20 platinum each for a drop off of a level 2 monster.

Haven't had a chance to do any more research yet...went to turn on my computer Friday morning and it made a horrid sound and died. Thought I was going to have to get hubby to do some sort of repair, but low and behold, he comes home from work, fiddles with the plug and it turns on. /boggle

Will get back to my research probably Monday.

Pretty much all the brown spiderling type mobs in game have those 2 no drop items now since misty thicket was revamped for newbie quests that required them. Apparently they were added globally, and of course are only needed in a few of the newbie armor quests.

If anyone else wants to help with compiling more data, here are the zones we are still looking to complete, with the names of the mobs that can drop spiderling silks:

                  Butcherblock Mountains: rock spiderling
                  Everfrost: wooly spiderling
Greater Faydark: large widow hatchling, large widow, widow hatchling-DONE
                  Innothule Swamp: crab spiderling-DONE
Kithicor Forest: spiderling (NOTE: only during daylight hours please)
                  Lesser Faydark: spiderling
Misty Thicket: large wood spider, spiderling-DONE
                  Nektulos Forest: araneidae spiderling
                  Northern Desert of Ro: spiderling
                  Qeynos Aquaducts: sludge spiderling
                  Steamfont Mountains: spiderling-DONE
Tox Forest: large widow, large wood spider, spiderling-DONE

So far, Butcherblock is the biggest pain in the butt to get any data from, as the rock spiderlings seem to only spawn around Kaladim, and only one or two at a time. ANY and all help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

                      Everfrost

Killing the little goblins in Everfrost will make more spiderlings spawn, which will make polar bear cubs spawn. Trust me, I just did a new ranger and leveled here. It took forever to get the sliks for my newbie gear too.

How many spiderlings per zone did you kill? Same number as above (50?) When I compile this, it's important to have all the relevant information handy.

I think this will be helpful to make our case. Thanks.

Yes, Nolrog, 50 per zone, which is why Butcherblock is taking so long

I haven't gone to Everfrost yet, and am contemplating whether or not I need to, since Sony has already said they are aware of the Everfrost spiderling situation....

                            Great work Raienya.

I'm glad my spiderling silk gathering days were completed when just about every one looted had silks.

Hopefully this will get changed soo.

Very true that you can us spiderling silk for the other pelts-- (If your using the silks to make leather padding) I just find with the rarity of spiderling silk-- its much easier to farm shadeling silk and low quality rockhopper hides since they drop so abundantly. Just a tip--to save ya some time
