Just to clear a little confusion on that quote from the Fan Faire... As mentioned, there are basically two different "sets" of research components (obviously comprised of many different subsets).

      1. The set from original EverQuest, which encompasses spells from 16-50.
      2. The set from LoY, which encompasses the spells 50-60.

The first set of research components were fairly evenly distributed throughout Norrath by level. That is to say that level 20-23 NPC's got the research components for level 20 research spells. Level 24-28 NPC's got the research components for level 24 spells, and so on. Kunark did not follow the research trend, so the research tables were added in a rather limited manner in Kunark+ expansions.

The second set of research components, introduced with the Legacy of Ykesha, duplicated the original concept as much as much as possible, mostly for familiarity and consistency with the old system. However... The new research component tables were not necessarily added retroactively to all NPC's across Norrath.

The "new" research components were primarily added to the zones in LoY, as well as zone revamps and free zones that were released recently.

          Hunting Poachers for Pelts

The idea was noted of giving an alternative way to get animal drops (pelts and meats and the like) so that followers of Tunare (and maybe others) will be able to avoid killing animals. Putting animal drops on poacher and their ilk was one idea.
Not that this is earth-shattering, but this has been in the game for quite some time I believe. Since Jaggedpine Forest came out, the option has existed.

If you hunt at the poacher camp in JPF you can get all three types of pelt: Wolf, Cat and Bear, in all varying qualities from Ruined to High. The poachers are very easy to kill, and there are a lot of them that respawn fairly quickly, so you can easily amass packs and packs full of pelts.

Plus the big bonus - it will raise your faction with the Jaggedpine people.

I figured most folks would know about this by now...

            Ummm yeah....

Sent in an alt to JPF to kill poachers for exp and pelts for my tailoring addiction.... So not really new information on that, but my halfling ears really perked up at the 'bridging the gap' comment...

Please... I'm avoiding ribs and robes and going insane with Wu's..

Dang chanter alt... get to 12 so i can abuse you for vials!!

            err...

            yeah

There are no plans to give any kind of experience for doing tradeskill combines
Back when the plague ravaged the Karanas, there was that muffin baking for the merchants quest.
You made crates of muffins and turned them in for faction, exp, and some money.
My alt did late teens or 20s doing this quest. It was fun, fairly easy once you got the skill, and gave great experience for a while. They never had to leave Freeport to gain 2 levels just baking and combing in the crate. Faction with merchants went to ally in Freeport and Qeynos too.
              I miss those times.

They are open to the suggestion of improving the rewards available when fishing, maybe introducing a small sack of gold or similar things in addition to the usual fresh fish, tattered sandal, fish scales, and such.
How about having +1 to hp and mana regen while fishing? It is a soothing activity after all.

And if humans can blacksmith BD armor for many deities, why can’t all blacksmith’s? (My Karana wizard was just curious.)
Humans have a wide variety of dieties to follow. That is the only reason why they can for cultural.

HIE can make the caster chain. Why can't humans?

See you can't ask these questions without noting other short comings.

Cultural is based off of the religion of the race. Less religions = less cultural options.

Bards have alot of options of what to follow. There is only one cultural armor for bards though: Veeshan. Why this was chosen to implement I have no idea. Could it be it was done to just have a reason to use those foraged crystals that had no use? How many Veeshan bards do you know of that started Veeshan not because of knowing about cultural armor?

Fishing Flies and road kill left to rot... a Yak suprise.

Perhaps lost now on the Fishing forum, but I am suprised that it hasn't been reviewed:

Could the Luclin Shade Silk threads be added to allowable usage, same as was done for Leather Padding combines?

Would someone consider bridging the skill gap between fishing flies and prepared fish/bone trivials?

Thinking out loud, double the trivial level to make a named fly as well as it's fishing bonus when made using a shade silk thread rather than a spiderling silk thread.

I'm afraid I don't understand asking for recipes for fishing that bridge any trivial gap. I've got a skill of 200 fishing, and the only thing I did to get my skill up was casting my line in the sea a lot. Fishing skill-ups are simple, just time-consuming.

Addendum to the Fan Faire Update

A few days ago Maddoc, the tradeskill developer, was kind enough to let me ask him a few more questions that didn't get asked at Fan Faire.
                    • Tradeskill items will never rival items obtained from raid oriented encounters. However, there are plans to add some items that will prove useful to that crowd of players.
                    • Augmentations may be created by tradeskills in the future but will not self perpetuate. Tradeskill modifiers will be reserved for augmentations discovered in future zones/expansions.
                    • Cost concerns between the different cultural skills are known and on the list of things to address. This is a small part of a larger issue and as such will be rolled into a larger fix that will address several other cultural concerns.
                    • Concerns about the tradeskilled elemental class armor in PoP have been heard. It is somewhat late in the development cycle to make large sweeping changes to these items, but the consumption of tempers and tannins may be balanced out a bit in the future.
                    • There are currently no plans to add cultural for any tradeskills that don't already have it. This may become a possibility in the future, once existing cultural concerns have been addressed.
                    • The recipes for Brodder’s Revenge and Lewena’s favorite drink do currently work. However, they are among a moderately lengthy list of undiscovered recipes that span several trades. Hints may be added if those recipes remain undiscovered.
                    • There are currently plans for tailoring recipes to address concerns for those races without cultural and who are not casters. This is another larger scale change that will be rolled into a bigger fix that addresses several tailoring concerns.
                    • There are currently no plans to introduce an "ultimate", cumulative tradeskill trophy. Aside from the big problem of being unable to add multiple skill modifiers to one item, it would also not incorporate any trophies for the class- and race-restricted skills. Should there ever be a way to resolve these issues, the idea will be reconsidered.
                    • The ideas and concerns surrounding the trophies, and their inability to yield different, permanent bags, are known. The desire and effort put into the items is known and appreciated. Should any amicable solution arise, it will be seriously considered.
                    • The concerns regarding the random number generator and skill-up progress are known. As stated by Scott Hartsman, the RNG is working nearly perfectly with a rather large sample-set. Additionally, anything that guarantees a skill up after a certain number of failures is not currently a consideration.

First of all, regarding Cleric Taven's post, fishing lures are a waste of time and ingredients, so I don't see why they would do anything about those to make Fishing skill-ups easier. If they removed spiderling silk as a component, or made the lures a charged item (meaning you can catch so many fish\items with it before losing it), maybe they would be worth doing, but not the way they work now. You're better off using Catch-A-Lot or Animated Bait than the player-made lures, since they are used up just like bait.

Second of all, I don't see how they could do Half-Elf cultural, for a few reasons. The main 2 I can think of atm being:

                      1. Half-Elves are half Human, half Wood Elf. Logically, this should mean that anything they make has stats (or quality) somewhere between items made by Humans or Wood Elves. Why even bother, unless its easier to make than Wood Elf cultural or uses a mix of components also used in Human and Wood Elf cultural?

                      2. Half-Elves get a trade off for not having Cultural in that they have a wider array of gear that they can wear than Humans or Wood Elves. More Human and Wood Elf armors that aren't wearable by Half Elves need to be introduced if they give Half-Elves cultural armor.

Why not just give Half Elves the ability to make the same stuff as the primary race in their starting city, but not ALL of the stuff, if there is more than one kind of cultural? (i.e. a Half Elf from Kelethin would only be able to make some of the items that the Wood Elves there can make, but not all (mainly, none of the stuff with required levels) of it).

My biggest gripe? Post-200 Baking needs to be fixed. Currently, anyone who can hunt safely in Jaggedpine has an advantage over anyone who can't, leaving those of us who can't hunt there without getting aggroed by the animals to rely on buying it or getting it from friends that can hunt there, killing our wrists by doing MTPs or HMPs or getting planar drops. (I've almost trivialled Ohabah Truffles, and Griffon Meat sells for waaaaaay too much (when its available) to make me even consider spending plat on it for skill-ups)

P.S. Has whether or not the Vah Shir or Frogloks will ever get cultural tradeskills of any kind (Please, no armor for the Froggies!) ever been discussed?

As near as I can tell, this says

                        1) Various undiscovered recipes do work, we just haven't figured them out yet.

                        2) There are plans to add some high-end recipes that result in semi-high-end items. That might refer to the new Oracle quest... or the quest might just be the first of many.

                        3) They might fix elemental recipes so that platemail doesn't need quite so many tempers compared to chainmail.

                        4) There's some sweeping changes coming to cultural recipes to balance them out among all races/religions/whatever, but cultural will still be for tailoring/smithing only.

That's what I get out of it. BTW, it's great when you get some information out to the players like this. I am definitely thankful, and so won't complain here even if I can think of something to complain about.

I Truely hope that this quote:

"There are currently no plans to add cultural for any tradeskills that don't already have it. This may become a possibility in the future, once existing cultural concerns have been addressed. "

Means that they are finally looking at the High elf and other cultural smithing that require items not easily gotten by the race that creates the items... I cannot tell you how much plat I have used up in buying Morning Dew from Forragers because I cannot forrage as a high elf. It seems that all other cultures pay at most 1 plat for the item to do the sub-combines (Enchanted Large bricks to blocks then blocks to sheets and the rings then the jointing) I am hoping that they make the tempers still use morning dew and allow us to use either Morning Dew OR Elven wine for the subcombines... or make a way to extract the morning dew from the elven wine... Something... I cannot stand setting up a forrage toon or paying 10 to 100 pp per Morning dew any more.

Not exactly .... religion = diety specific. Cultural is a racial factor.

You can also have a combination of cultural and diety specific. Prime example would be Halfing-made armor wearable only by followers of Karana. If your half-elf wants a nice piece of Karana armor, they have to pay for someone else to make it for them. Their god doesn't love them enough to let them do anything besides fletch

You forgot cultural fletching (wood elves). I wonder if they will add human or halfling cultural fletching so that items may be made for Karana-worshipping archers.

Here is a great example of one.
