Apricot Marmalade + Bread --> Marmalade Sandwich, also trivial 99, so for every success on a fruit/frosting combine, you can get six more skillup chances just by buying bread (and having a mixing bowl)

Elemental Access

Currently I have access to all of the elemental planes. My question to you wonderful bakers: do you feel it would be easier to get the components from the elemental planes and use that for skilling to 250, or stick with picnics to get me to 250? Mostly I'm referring to the fishing in PoWater were you can get Giant Halibut and Giant Snapper. Just looking for some ideas on what you guys and gals think.

Thanks for the excellent tips. One question. Is it worthwhile at 191 to just move on to Anaconda and Griffon melts or should I try some of the intermediates like the cinna stix to break 200.

I've updated the post to include:

yield info on pies
skilling up on fish in the high pop tiers
a clearer note on egg yields (I can't see that it's really worth including the full discussion about which eggs to what for dough/noodles and the cheapest route (selling to tailors and buying lower yield ones) as the document is already over-long)
marmalade sandwiches as they are my "signature snack."


It's very hard to say what is "best" in terms of which route to use. I didn't like cinna-sticks due to the slow forage plus having to farm pixie dust, but others have done very well out of it. I love fishing, so an option of fishing and then a simple combine is perfect for me, (so yes, I've finally included the 208 fish trivs) but it's a lot of fishing time. I've not included the breaded versions, despite higher trivs, as it includes foraging and a more involved combine, so isn't, to my mind, a short cut. I've left it out in the interest of brevity.

I've also left the "250+ options" as is, without reference to the higher tier pop planes. I guess it's kind of arbitrary but with the exception of fish (a two component combine to 208 is just awesome *grin*) I want to try to keep this guide as viable for players regardless of level/alignment/guild status.

Just thought I would mention the Candied Cockroaches, I forage them by the buckets in PoJ and one cockroach and 3 sugars make Candied Cockroaches, Trivia 202

Sorry to go a tweeny bit off topic but I needed to ask about the
frequency of skill ups.

I have gear that gives me just over 150 Wis, and I am at 193
skill. I think since I have reached 193 I've done about 150 combines
on my Halas Meat Pies with out a skill up.

Is this unusual? I'm just wondering how many of these things I have
to do to get a point. Not that I mind making them, because they've
made me alot of pp.

Not unusual. 193 to the mid 200s is hell level for skillups, generally speaking. I am at 206 +/- and I routinely do over 100 combines or more between skillups. You may want to try cinnisticks if you can get them, but the only other advice I can give is keep clicking. Good luck!

would love to update this, but ...

I didn't include the cockroaches before the forage time (as it's four cockroaches per combines) is, to my mind, prohibitive. If foragers are seriously using this to skill up on, I may add it.

I'm also considering backing off my "tier one only" restriction as access to PoV/PoS via the trials is becoming more common and I am regularly seeing bakers fishing on the shores of Plane of Storms now. I'd hate for someone to have access to those fish and not realise that it's an easy skill-up because I left it out.

In regards to the new LoY recipes ... I am a bit torn on this as patty melts are still quicker/easier ... however it is nice to have a non-fasttrack "get your own bits" way to get into the 190's and for that reason alone it'd be nice to include.

The problem is, this guide is getting longer and longer and I'm fretting about it becoming totally incomprehensible to new bakers, so I'd really appreciate some feedback regarding inclusions/exclusions ...

I tried the skillup paths in this thread to go from 0 to 120-something, and I wanted to post some feedback on them.

My biggest gripe is that eucapyptus leaf costs about 4pp each :shock: (cha 131, amiable faction). The sellback price wasn't that great at ~1pp for a successfull combine. Unless you feel like burning plat, I wouldn't suggest this to anyone. The combine also requires a mixing bowl. For those of us just interested in the shawl, it's possible to avoid one and skillup using only the oven/spit. My final grudge against this combine is that each combine produces 10 mints, which killed any free space I had available quickly.

Also if you really want to minimize costs, I would stay away from any recipe that uses beat or lion meat. At indifferent faction in SH, bear or lion meat cost 8s4c, and filleted bear/lion sold back for 1s9c. Compare to fish rolls (indifferent faction in PoK) - fish 2s6c, batwing 1s, fish rolls 4s8c. So making fish rolls is a much cheaper skill up route than filleted bear/lion.

After looking around a bit more I think the best low lvl skillup route is in Oakwood's Guide to Power Baking under the Learn a Skill Section. It might be beneficial to look for possible alternative supply locations, since the guide hasn't been updated after the release of PoP. For example, there is a fish and batwing vendor close to each other in PoK, so fish rolls can be made very easily there.

Note the guide does speak about you want to skill up fast and are willing to throw plat at it... if you are only going for the shawl then I agree, there's no point in buying expensive alchemy ingredients to get to 135 and there is always a question of ease vs. cost. That's why there is not a single method to skilling up but instead various routes you can take.

However, I am very interested in your reference to filleting meats turning out more expensive. I compared purchase prices (but I have a horrible feeling this was before they upped the meat price) without regards to sell-back price as in my mind you would be saving the fillets to make pies or the fish rolls to eat/feed mules with.

Obviously, that's a gap. I'll check the numbers on the basis of selling back everything you've made and update the guide accordingly. Thanks.

Not sure why anyone would skill up on anything besides fish rolls in PoK. Two items, very cheap to purchase, on two different vendors very close to each other. My enc triv'd these the other night from 35 in about 30 minutes.

I just had to post a message saying thanks to everyone who has contributed to all Trading posts. I must admit that I started off just wanting to Bake but then along came needing some pie tins and cookware. Well, the heck with having to pay someone to do it LOL so I set out to work Pottery & Blacksmithing...so now I am 135 Baking (omw to Thurgadin after stopping off in Jagged Pines), 101 in Pottery, 90 in Smithing, & I threw in Brewing (110) just in case I got thirsty along the way LOL. I must say there is a great feeling attatched to seeing that skill level go up & seeing 'You have made something new !!' I have found a new love in Tradeskills and look forward to GrandMastering some in the future. Thanks to everyone involved in the great info here.

Yep, this is no longer a cheap option. The only reason to skill up on bear/lion meat would be to save things for pies. I will correct the guide, thank you.
