    Hmmm....

    Thanks for the advice. I'll switch to making the melts...for the Halas Pies, though give nice stats, are something of a royal pain to make. Spirits help me if I think of those Misty Thicket Picnics! Aren't MTP the most exhaustive thing a baker can make? :roll:

    You'll see me some more here. I'm somewhat new to the baking scene, but thanks to a tailor of my guild, Myrron...he posts in the Tailoring section I'm sure...he gave me the tradeskill fever, but only baking so far.

    Well, I better check the oven for it smells like something's burning! :twisted:

          If you're a bard & lvl 65 with a few FT items and the lvl 64 charm you can easily pull the whole goblin isle and gate away the summoning mobs away from camp then take the rest to the little culdecut past the horse/mephit platform & kill about 15 hobgoblins in 12-15mins by charm/swarm kiting. Not only is this great experience, you'll usually get 5-10 meats a kite. I have 6 stacks in the bank and just realized that making hobgoblin surprise is **** easy.

          Recipe is:
          * Loaf of bread (vendor)
          * Hobgoblin meat
          * Pie Tin (never lost)
          * Brown Gravy (subcombines are vendor bought except pot which is easily attainable)

          So if you are a bard or have access to a bard with charm, some chants, and the gate song then you are well on your way to being a 250 baker -- easiest way imho. plus the aa's add up quick! See you when I get my spoon

            Baking is at 218 now, and I either forage what I need, fish, or buy from traders. Sometimes I get very lucky when traders sell certain meats for a very low price, and that's when I go on a buying spree. When I find brownie parts cheap, I make the holy cake. I have enough food stashed in the bank and on various alts either for holding or for their own consumption, that I can open a restraunt.

              k i didn't see this but might have missed it. when doing patty melts buy the MEAT. leave 3 slots open and an empty spit. go to jaggedpine. buy 1 stack of cheese and 1 loaf of bread (the girl right beside the guy selling cheese) the 3rd slot is for your successes. when you get through your stack of meat buy another stack of cheese and bread and your success stack prolly wont be full yet. just keep doing this till all your meat has turned into patty melts. if you need to store more stuff the banker is right beside the merchant with cheese so load up some empty bank slots too from either shadowhaven (right beside a bank) or thurgadin (not far to bank and dwarves are cool). that is how i did it instead of carrying the stacks of cheese and bread to the meat person. saved me a lot of running.

                The bag matters =)

                I bought deluxe toolboxes as they have 10 inventory slots and weigh only 3.5 pounds instead of 25 pounds for the trader satchels that really weigh you down....gotta be able to move =). AND they are large enough to hold your Halas Pies.

                Here's what I did to skill up:
                I made fish rolls then moved on to patty melts then right on to Halas meat pies. Got up to 193 in 2 days =).

                Fish rolls are a snap. Go to the POK Pool where there are unlimited supplies of fresh fish and batwings, buy a spit and combine there at the pool so you dont have to run all over the place. I worked up my fishing skill there as well just for fun =).

                Ran over to Jagged Pine and bought about 4 bags worth of cheese for the patty melts then ran over to Thurgadin to make them. Unlimited supplies of the meat and bread at Mordin's Meats and hardly anyone goes there to use the oven.

                The bad thing about the Halas pies is that you need to farm wolf and mammoth meat, but the good thing is that they make 10 fillets each, instead of one like the bear and lion meat. Make sure you have enough space to make your cream, and then the creamy fennel sauce. I suggest having all your bags available to make this because there are a lot of sub combines before you do the final combine to make the pie. Then you will need to put your finished pies in a container that can hold large objects....hence buying the deluxe toolboxes (which can fit the pies) VS the Trader satchels that weigh too much.

                  Jaggedpine, Cheese etc

                  The Shared Bank slots and platinum makes the Patty Melt route an utterly trivial thing, as long as you can park a 'spare' alt at either the Human or (safer) the Gnolls.

                    Baking to 135 shouldn't even be talked about, the combines are so redundant and simple.

                    136 to 142 is relatively easy as well, make whatever pies you want or FG/SG steaks.

                    to 152 meats for the HMP in the creamy sauce

                    Then set aside some eggs and do Pinemyer Pasta to 191! Noodle, spice, jug of sauces = quick easy combines, only 1 subcombine (noodles) and no camping required. You can do so, you just don't have to anymore.

                    Ohabah Truffles are an easy way to 200 or so, helps to have a forager who is skilling up their smithing by doing the Shadowscream line. However, since mushrooms are foraged in almost all Luclin zones, shouldn't be that hard to find some on vendors or in the bazaar. Brown Algae is needed here for the major sub-combine, but you also need brown algae for Coldain Heaters (and eventually Coldain Velium Tempers) for several other tradeskills uses.

                    Now back to the cheesy meats... HMP's to 226 or thereabouts. Long prep-time pays off with hefty returns on the bazaar mule at 4 to 8 (or more, depending) plat per pie, your pottery/tailoring bill is reduced greatly.

                    From 227 on, hodge-podge! Justice Fruits, Jord Meats, Anaconda, Griffon, Vann Toes, Blood Raven parts, MTP's, Hobgob meat, etc. can all be healthy ways to get to the vaulted Frugal Gourmet status!

                    Happy Martha Stewarting!

                      Have to disagree.

                      Hello, I'm new to the board but not to tradeskilling. I'm sorry, no disrespect meant, but I'm going to have to disagree with the following comment:

                      There is no benefit (in terms of skill ups) to doing recipes close to your skill level, but it DOES mean you will have a lot more goodies to nibble and pass around.
                      It is in my opinion and my experiences in baking (which I have done A LOT of on many different characters), that if something is closer to your current skill level in trivial, you have a better chance of gaining skill ups. I don't know if this is because you have more successes, and maybe you're more likely to skill up on a success (though I don't know if this has been proven), or just the simple fact that it's closer to your skill level.

                      The reason I say this is in my skill period of 190-220 approximately in baking, the only two things I do mainly are (1) Halas 10lb Meat Pie & (2) Misty Thicket Picnic.

                      In that period on my current character (a pure intelligence caster with 255 INT, mind you) I put together 3 sets of 100 combine attempts each of Halas 10lb Meat Pies, and Misty Thicket Picnics.

                      After attempting 100 of each, I gained 5-8 skill ups out of 100 combine attempts of Halas 10lb Meat Pies at anywhere between 190-220 skill in baking. At the same number of attempts on Misty Thicket Picnics only 1-3 skill ups (3 was lucky). I did this again and observed the same pattern.

                      If anyone isn't aware the trivial on Halas Pies is approx. 220, while Mistys are shown to be 335 with the new tradeskill UI.

                      This is why I believe attempting combines closer to your current skill level in trivial yields more successes (of course) AS WELL as more skill ups.

                      I can't prove this 100% in any way, but I just wanted to share my experiences and why I believe it is smarter when skilling up to attempt combines closer in trivial to your skill level.

                      Sorry about the long rant.

                        One recipe that I think is extremely underrated for skill ups is Holy Cake.

                        3 Celestial Essence
                        1 Clump of Dough
                        1 Eucalyptus Leaf
                        1 Frosting
                        1 Winter Chocolate [1 Brownie Parts, 2 Frosting]

                        A few of the ingredients can be a bit pricy, namely the Eucalyptus Leaf and Celestial Essence stuff but farming Brownie Parts is extrmely easy - especially if you're ranger with a port breastplate. Just gate yourself to lesser faydark, run over to the brownie town and kill them for their parts. Now check tracking for Thistle Underbrush and Brownie Outcasts as they can also drop parts. If you can handle them, the roaming brownie scouts can also drop parts. I would do this twice a day, once when I logged in and again before camping.

                        The other nice thing about holy cake is that it doesn't require nearly as many combines as either misty thicket picnics or halas 10lb meat pies. Also, the combine yields for holy cake is fairly high. Given that your bazaar isn't flooded with holy cake, you should be able to price so that it is very cheap yet still covers your expenses.

                        Holy Cake trivals at 242 though, but if you follow the theory of better skill ups when making things closer to trivial - it is worthwhile to consider.

                        --------------------------------

                        Finally if you're a tracking class, take a trip out the jaggedpine forest for anaconda and griffon meat. [Griffon meat drops off all varieties of griffons in this zone and drops their meat far more than anacondas do theirs.] There are a bunch of recipes that will take you all the way to 250 using either griffon or anaconda meat as its main ingredient which requires farming. Again not nearly as many combines as mtps or 10lb pies.

                          Nedaria's Landing, the new zone added just before GoD launched, is a superb place to farm for meat and pelts. The animals there are lower level than Jaggedpine, but seem to share similar loot tables -- you can get griffon meat off the various griffon-like mobs, anaconda meat off the snakes, and so on. The wolves, bears, and cats in the region drop quality pelts (I've never seen a ruined pelt drop) that can be used in tailoring or smithing (as leather padding). The forage table includes plant shoots, which can be used in baking as well as other tradeskills. There's a magus there, which makes for much easier travel than Jaggedpine, but there's no banker. You can also run to Jaggedpine (one zone away) if you have to bank.

                            holy cake are a lot more expensive to make. it also uses 1 brownie part per cake combine. mtps use 1 for 100 combines. it is an idea if you can farm the brownies hardcore but if you can't yet its not that viable. even if you can the mtps are cheaper per combine to make and you can get a larger number in a shorter time.

                              If you have a good source of plat like I did... (thanks to being a GM Potter)

                              I took a different approach after Halas Pies.

                              First I tried the Tuna and Crag Souffles...I was pissed after wasting countless hours farming snake eggs only to get 3 skillups from 200 combines.

                              Then I tossed my plat into Justice Fruit, which being a wizard, I was forced to buy some in the bazaar at 40pp each. So I ended up dumping 16kpp into pies. But over those 400 combines, I went from 229 to 250. That's a skillup every 19.1 combines. No complaints from me.

                                Thanks Sony for the new tradeskill window! My biggest gripe about making halas pies was the amount of time it took making the subcombines, then making the final product. Now with the new tradeskill window it makes the combines go WAY faster .

                                PS....I wouldnt bother with snake eggs as they make only 1 dough per combine.....get basilisk eggs that=15 dough per combine. These can be easily farmed in Lavastorm.
