There are a bazillion mushrooms - along the lines that Maevenniia suggested there are those darkfang mushrooms that I foraged all the time in the GoD zones. And there was a no drop "A Mushroom" that is sometimes on the fungi shrooms in Dawnshroud with a tradeskill tag that I think we never figured out a combine for.

So did I miss finding where people located the soy sauce?

You were right...it was "A Mushroom" (No drop from mushrooms in DSP). I had cleared the shrooms in DSP 4 times before I realized there was a "Mushroom" that was foraged. So, that was my first thought...and it turned out correct. I just gave up too fast. Trivial is 268, btw.

Edit: Oh...and no, I haven't found any leads for soy sauce, even thought I could have sworn I saw some at some point. Nothing on Lucy, Alla's, here, or anywhere.

I'm still working on this quest, but I'm stuck on the freaking pot from the Vah Shir rogue quest. The good news is, my rogue is zero skill fishing, so it should be moderately easy to get the tuna I need, AND I can skill her up at the same time! =)

I've also noticed that the recipes require increasingly larger chunks of tuna. Is this quest really going to use up all 16 or so sizes of fished tuna? I think that would qualify it as the biggest tradeskill quest to date, in terms of sheer number of combines. =)

That was my fear at first, but it goes like this so far:
          1 lb
          2 lbs
          3 lbs
          1 lbs x 2
          4 lbs
          4 lbs

            Twistagain,

Can you please post the full recipe (including yield, trivial, and container) for the tuna a la king in database update submissions so I can get that into the database please? I also need stats for the tuna a la king if you can provide that. Thanks!

Glory be, I finally got my pot out of that quest! Then I had to skill up the rogue's baking, and THEN go fish for some tuna ... Anywho, many trials and tribulations later, I hand Chef Chow-mein his tuna and he tells me:

Chef Chowderly scarfs down the dish you created. 'This is great. Your dish was flavorful, cooked just right, and I can tell you know your tuna. Take this recipe for Taelosian Tuna Kabobs. Once you make this dish, hand it to me along with the recipe I just gave to you.' Chef Chowderly returns to his busy pace of cooking.

              One 3 lb. Saltwater Tuna
              Skewers
              One Spotted Mushroom
              One Habanero Pepper
              Ground Garlic

Yes, it's misspelled in the first line of the note. Off to find some mushrooms. Luckily, I have a stack of 3lb. Tuna somewhere...

The mushroom you need is called "A Spotted Mushroom" and it's a random drop off the various shrooms in Dawnshroud Peaks. (While hunting, hang on to any "A Mushroom" you find for a later step of the quest.) The garlic is sold in the Neriak Rogue's guild and in Abysmal Sea at the poison vendors. Cook up the kabobs and hand them to our Chef.

Chef Chowderly scarfs down the kabobs. 'Quality work! The tuna was cooked just right, the mushrooms were tender, and you added just enough peppers. I am impressed. Keep up the good work. Take this recipe for my Delightful Tuna Cakes. Once you make this dish, hand it to me along with the recipe I just gave to you.' Chef Chowderly returns to his busy pace of cooking.

You can't skip steps in this quest because each turn-in requires you to hand in the dish and the recipe scoll itself. The scrolls are no-drop, and the only way to get them is to complete the previous step. I suppose you could try to MQ this by having someone hand in their recipe scroll while you hand in the matching dish, but since all the dishes are tradable, it seems like a lot of unnecessary work. It might make sense if someone started the quest but then abandoned it, and you want to pick up where they left off.

So, after wiping out most of the snakes in Ssra, I had me some eggs. The combine went well, and one hand-in later:

Chef Chowderly joyfully eats the cakes. 'This is great! You certainly know how to make this dish. Shissar Eggs are not easy to prepare properly, but you did an excellent job. We might have a master chef in the making here! I think these dishes have been too easy for you. From here on out, the recipes are going to be harder to make. I think you can handle it though. Take this recipe for Taelosian Tuna a la King. Once you make this dish, hand it to me along with the recipe I just gave to you.' Chef Chowderly returns to his busy pace of cooking.

Chowderly can't spell very well, can he? This one looks moderately easy, but it's not. Remember that "A Mushroom" I told you to save? This is why. You need to use that in this recipe, not the normal foraged "Mushroom". Bake it up and hand it in, and you'll get:

Chef Chowderly joyfully eats the dish you prepared. 'This dish truly was fit for a king. Very nice work. Your training is almost complete. Take this recipe for Tuna Rice Surprise. And yes, he really did misspell "surprise" and use a ` in his last line.

Gathering ingredients now, more as I get this done.

This guy really need spelling lessons. Well, I actually had most of this stuff on an alt, and pleasantly enough, the Wok was returned on success (they fixed the recipe so it doesn't eat your Wok on success any more). One baking combine later, he tells me:

Chef Chowderly joyfully eats your meal. 'Excellent work, my friend. I guess you want to know what the surprise part of the dish is? Well, there isn't one really. It is always nice to include the word surprise in at least one of your dishes! That is a tip you should never forget! Take this recipe for Spicy Tuna Sunrise Steak. Once you make this dish, hand it to me along with the recipe I just gave to you.' Chef Chowderly returns to his busy pace of cooking.

And we're back to looking for the Soy Sauce. No item with the letters "soy" in its name has been found in-game, apparently, despite my checking three different item databases. I could not find any recipes with "soy" in the name in an oven, mixing bowl, or brew barrel. Unless someone has a bright idea on where to get Soy Sauce, I'm stuck.

Well, soy sauce is fermented. It's made from soybeans, roasted grain, water and sea salt. I do not know if these items exist in EQ though.

I was thinking it may indeed be tradeskilled, but I don't know of any item that would qualify as a soybean. There are coffee beans, vanilla beans, castorbeans, stone beans, and "special beans", whatever that might be.

As it's "one small bottle of soy sauce", it might be out of something larger.. well, like a coconut

Or the "small bottle" part hints to alchemy.. dunno. Is there any alchemy supplies, like leaves or beans or nuts or something that might be made into soy sauce? I don't have a clue what what other things you would need tho.

Or not alchemy but poison.. like add a small sip of something to the dish that in a larger quantity is considered a poison.

Anyway, it's probably a new forage in high keep or emerald jungle or anguish.

OK I am not sticking this in the database submissions since I can't log in and check the names - but Ground Garlic is available on both of the poison making vendors in Abysmal Sea as well (well it was last year). (Right now the database only lists the Neriak Third Gate vendors)

I hate not being able to try things out to check my ideas - anyhow is there any chance the small bottle of soy sauce is just being too specific in the recipe and is just a plain old jug of sauces or the like?
