  • It has occured to me that the other recipes that might require soy sauce in a RL scenario use fish oil instead. Perhaps it is merely fish oil needed or soy sauce has fish oil in its combine. Just a thought.

      • Has anyone heard anything on the soy sauce? I did some digging today and going off of the idea that soy sauce is made from beans, water, starch(flour for my tests) and salt. There were 5 flours/wheats, 4 salts, 2 beans and a water flask.

        Flours:
        Cup of flour
        Taelosian mountain wheat
        Taelosian mountain wheat flour
        Taelosian wheat
        Taelosian wheat flour

        Salts:
Blackened Salt crystals (no drop from hsm grimlings.)
Kelp Salt (no drop from moor tortoises in hsm)
        Rock Salt
        Coarse Salt

        Beans:
        Stone beans
        Castorbean

        Fluids:
        Water flask

I tried all of the possible combinations in 1:1:1:1 ratios in both mixing bowls and brew barrels. I also tried each brew barrel combination with and without a bottle. All resulted in does not combine. Couldn't get a bag of sea salt from the oasis. Will try later. Does anyone else have any other ideas?

        • Coarse salt

Coarse Salt is probabally not the salt we are looking for (if the combine does even involve salt.) Because iirc coarse salt was implemented with DoN and this is a GoD quest (should be solvable with all items from GoD and earlier expansions.
I do howver think that since soy sauce is a fermented liquid it is most likely made through brewing not baking.

          • Yeah it came with DoN, I was just trying to cover all my bases. I'm leaning towards it being one of the no drop salts from luclin as 3 of the previous combines have used no drop luclin items. I also tried everything in a brew barrel too. Not sure if i should be using vinegar or some other liquid instead of water.

            • I looked at the wikipedia page for soy sauce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soy_sauce) and plugged just about every word that I could (including Japanese and Chinese transliterations) into Lucy -- no luck.

I then went to the soybean page on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soy) and tried to figure out where soy grows. Unfortunately, soy could grow in most zones in EQ (excluding tundra and desert). I went and talked to all the farmers in the Karanas hoping that maybe one of them was a soy farmer (or had become a soy farmer in one of the last patches). No luck there.

There are also farmers in Misty and a brownie farmer in lfay. I haven't checked them yet. I also think I recall a Yunjo farmer in Barindu (maybe? It might have been another GoD zone) and there are corn plants there which are... well... not soy... but kind of like soy... in a desperate tradeskiller's logic.

              • Soy sause is supposed to be made with wheat or soybeans. But in EQ you might try Rotgrub Rye or Rye of Eternity. It's a stretch, but you never know.

                • Anyone tried talking to PoI prisoners? Ya'd have to wonder where they keep getting all the tiny bottles to put notes into and tie to rats.

Except for the highly unlikely event that SOE might actually mess something up, the soy sauce recipe really should have salt in it, because that's the whole purpose of real-life soy sauce. It's a sort of salt delivery system.

You might try Mt. Death Mineral Salts as a possible salt source. Drops in the Mines off of gobbies in Mines of Nurga, Frontier Mtns, and Drogra.

                            • Honey Mush

They actually did not properly implement Honey Mush Bread. There IS a recipie for it that you can get in game. The recipie involves a fish that does not exist. The only thing keeping me from making Honey Mush Bread for several years was the lack of a fish. The fish is probably what is supposed to be caught in Fiorna Vie but they screwed up and put the fish from Calibis in for the Firiona Vie fishing table.

Why would you catch freshwater Catfish in an ocean?

The person that put it in either did not realize that there was a recipie or was just being lazy. They should not have added it to the vendors like that instead of making it makeable, but then maybe im being too demanding in wanting the correct recipie to be used for that quest....

Edit: Honeymush Bread is from Kunark, it is used in a quest from Kurns Tower. I have the notes for it somewhere but am overseas right now and cant look it up.

For brewed soy sauce a starter culture is needed to get the fermentation process going. Deep Fungus Mold or just plain Yeast would fit the bill.
