  • Potato chips?

Yet another carrot dangled in front of us by Brodder.

In the Brewing thread, he posted:

If I wouldn't eat it I'd not be to likely to drink it.
    Dwarfs are not cannibals.
We do like pretzels, fried root chips covered in dried sea salt and spices, and a good meat pie...
My response, focusing on the "fried root chips covered in dried sea salt and spices" bit:

Brodder never responded (that I can tell) as to whether this was an actual recipe or just flavor text -- and he's been VERY prone to the latter.

Be that as it may, anyone else care to take a crack at this?

Don't know about potato chips made from roots, but if you can get someone to forage them, why not try Rujarkian Potatoes? I'd try it, but I don't think I have any in the bank, and I do my utmost to do any adventures in Miragul's (just 150 more points to Pack Shrew ).

I happened to have some Rujarkian potatoes on me so I tried different combinations and all were DNC.

        1-3 potatoes.
        1-2 vegetable oils
        1 sea salt
        Non-stick frying pan
Filleting knife (gotta slice the potatoes, right?)

Slice potatoes/vegitales/roots before you cook them? Two step process?

how would you cut the roots potatoes first?

you think it would be like we do a cake, just put it in the oven? or use a knife? i wouldnt know what knife to use if we needed one.

i believe i put roots in an oven by themselves and it DNC, but ill try it again.

                another idea

Although Brodder invented these recipes pre-Velious, I'd also suggest trying Lichen Roots , since they're forageable in and around dwarvish territories.

Silly thought... has anyone tried a pot rather than a non stick frying pan? (I'm at work or I'd try it myself)

When I think fresh potato chips I think of a deep fryer (which is far more like a pot filled with oil than a frying pan)

Might as well throw in a smoker too....

Or maybe there's a new pottered item required...

i think any combinable item has to say that it can be used in a tradeskill.

i found a few more roots and oils that can be used in tradeskills... im blanking on the names.... acorn oil, blackened root are two of them.

but he did say the items were common so not sure if im barking up the wrong tree.

as for the pot...good idea, ill have to try that out next time i get on.

phase spider silk is combinable into silk threads and has no tradeskill tag. So I wouldn't count on that tag for now.

Also anyone try moss roots? Foraged in LOIO and SoNH, I think they're already used for some water quest, but its a thought.

And maybe being fried, bread crumbs or flour is needed?
