i know brodders original post mentioned pretzals... im not sure why it was changed to potato chips...

anyhow.... i have been really busy with school and havent been able to test some ideas.

      how about making "beer pretzals"

i remember seeing him mention "pretzal dough".... so make dough, but use beer/ale instead of water?

      in mixing bowl
egg + ale + flour = pretzal dough

      in oven
pretzal dough + sea salt + spices + egg = pretzal

I realize he says "dried sea salt" but the MT Death Salts from Nurga have a trade skill tag. Could they be the salt item?

EDIT: DUH had a hobbit moment noticed ppl tried it... any idea why those salts have the trade skill tag?

Indeed. It's because they can be used to create both the temper used for Deathsteel and a poison.

There is the bag of sea salt. I think it's fished in OOT as well as maybe Timerous Deep. I think we'll need to find a way to slice those roots before we cook them. Not sure when the salt and spice would be added, though.

If it's a two step combine, then I'd think it'll be...

1.) filet knife + root (or potatoe) + vegetable oil + pot in spit/oven

2.)Fried Root Slices (or Potatoe Slices) + salt + spices in mixing bowl.

If it's a three step, then we'd need to separate the slicing from the cooking. Probably slicing in the mixing bowl. I just wish I could forage. Guess it's time to get the ranger into Rujark and do a bit of foraging for me.

Thanks Trezark. It had been awhile since I used the search feature (beta actually) and I saw "there is no recepie that makes this item" and I read it as there is no recepie that uses this item.

Remind me to sleep from time to time and I'll be ok.

Brodder posted elsewhere about the scaler and how no one found a use for it. Anyone tried that as yet?

BTW, unless "Brodder FoamyMugs" is also posting as "Brodybeard", I think the scaler reference above was attributed to the wrong person.

I'm not saying that scalers DON'T have a use, but I don't think that Brodder has said anything about them.

Nope, two different people. My halfling, Cnoc, is the brewer in my little group of characters and he's still looking for a recipe for single malt scotch.

Someone said there was a use for scalers. I haven't heard of any uses for scalers and was asking if they meant scaler molds, which are very useful. Can you imagine a mold in real life that can used to make three very different tools? I think nanotechnology is involved.

Sorry about that. I guess I jumped the gun in hopes there was another clue to help solve the missing recipe.

ok jsut finished talkign to one of the best chefs i know and here is ehr sugestions. i asked what she could think of in terms of instruments and tools back in the dark age.

fried root chip----a knife, some type of oil, frehsly peeled and cleaned root, and a pan

dried sea salt---put the salt out in the sun and let dry

now i ahve seen freshly cleaned veggies in PoK. also consider trying a bag or two of salt and a bottle in an oven or brew barrel. this is all i was able to come up with in the last couple hours. sorry if it isn't mroe help

I think we're getting too complicated here guys.

                            he said
fried root chips covered in dried sea salt and spices
has anyone just tried root + sea salt + spices yet?

It wouldn't be the first time the extended stuff was all fluff.

Lets get back to the basics before we get to the exotic.

Edit: just though of this. if it doesn't work plain, try using a Wok. Woks are used to stir fry and can also be used to deep fry stuff.

                              From my original post:
Roots + Spices + Bag of Sea Salt
                              HTH

Oh, and for the record, I want to clarify again that Brodder never suggested or implied that this is in fact an actual, live recipe. It's just that the way he presented it makes it sounds VERY much like an actual recipe, rather than just random flavor text. I'll keep looking, of course, but I don't think we should get our hopes too high just yet.

What if it does need to be sliced first...

At work ATM, so can't try, but as a thought...
Roots + Fillet Knife + Mixing Bowl = peeled/sliced potatoes
Potatoe slices + oil + pot/non-stick frying pan + sea salt/spices in oven?

Try slicing/peeling in mixing bowl with the roots first.
