  • KSers.

Ok, I admit, I may not have the best gear, I'm mostly ToV with a cobolt bp, but I really don't need your help (at level 63) to protect me from spiders in EK. This might be hard to comprehend, but you really don't need full elemental plate to protect you from these mobs. I know you want to help though, so in the future when you want to help me out there, and protect me from the 100+ green mobs chasing me there, please don't kill the spiders chasing me (it's ALWAYS the spiders you want to help me out with I know, which is why you loot them too right?), kill the snakes. No one wants those, I don't want them, you don't want them, the guy across the zone doesn't want them, in fact, not a single person in the history of EQ has EVER wanted those particular snakes from that particular zone. They are worthless, so kill them, NOT my spiders.

Better yet, just back off entirely, There is a reason my health is still full while I am smacking more mobs to add to the massive train behind me. It's because I do NOT need your help at all. See the druid standing over there? The one I have two boxed, with upheavel loaded? He is there for a reason. He is there to kill MY spiders.

To clear up some confusion, lets define what makes a spider MINE (and not yours). There is a VERY simple way to figure this out. If it is chasing behind me in a massive train it means it is aggroed on me, and NOT yours. The one that is standing/walking around over there /point. is NOT mine, it's not on me, not chasing me, not even near me. Go kill that one.

If there are no more up...wait one minute until I nuke the whole train. When all those snakes die, there will be spiders EVERYWHERE. Grab as many as you possibly can, I'll do the same. I'll also be grabbing everything else too, so you can thank me for saving you the trouble of killing your own placeholders.

On second thought, don't bother, I'll just kill the spiders as I go, and train the rest around. The reason for this is simple. If you had the intelligence to comprehend this post, you wouldn't be KSing spiders from someone with a high level druid in the zone, with fast nukes loaded, extended range, and fast casting items, and KEI. (for the really dense among you, tracking classes can also track YOU!, and extended range means I can cast from farther behind as well)

I'll also go out on a limb and speak for the rest of the high level players in the zone also, they don't need your help either. If they did need help, there is darn sure nothing your level 30 self could do except die right next to them.

    Dude... chill.

If you're AEing the entire zone, expect people to get upset.

I seriously doubt anyone was following you and killing stuff that is agroed, more likely they complained because you were monopolizing the zone and taking all the spawns.

You and I know that killing the snakes makes more spiders spawn, but the average lvl 30 that is killing 1 at a time and still getting a little exp on the crags doesn't know that.

Maybe if you took the time to explain that little tidbit you wouldn't look so much like a greedy guy killing everything around with abandon.

I have a similar complaint, with a twist.

I welcome considerate high levels farming a zone who will share mobs. Heck, I'll probably remember you and perhaps we can group when I log on my high level main.

I object to two-boxing high levels that overwhelm and monopolize a zone with their farming power. You know the ones? "I aggro'd those dozens of mobs first, so get out of my way. See that mob in the corner. Go play with that one, if you're fast enough to aggro it first."

I agree totally with Thicket and Defontes. If you are going to pull all the creatures in the zone, you should expect people to get upset. I think its actually pretty arrogant of you to complain about people KSing when you are "stealing" most of mobs in the zone.

Just because you "can" pull every mob in the zone doesn't mean you should. There are others out there that want those mobs too.

And. The actuall reules say that YOU do not get the crag spiders that that 30 can learn from... **YOU** specifically can be kicked from the game for taking them from the 30.

now the other spiders and snakes, lions, wolves, etc... he has no claims on... but the ones he can learn from... well... he has more claim than your level 63 self... despite you taging them first.... the moment they became green you lost your RIGHT to the mob... Now... if you are not denying this person mobs he can learn from then well.. yeah he is KS'ing but you ARE monopolizing the zone, a bit unfairly at that.

You're a 63 warrior, right? Few things in this zone are going to take you more than one or two whacks with a two-hander to kill. Is it really more efficient to tag and run all that crap around the zone just so some druid can kill it for you?

I'm not annoyed by considerate AoE'ers (of which I'm sure you're one), but sometimes it just gets ludicrous. It also gives me an opportunity to tell a story, which I love to do.

A couple of weeks ago, I zoned into EK to find that most of the zone was being kited around by some anon warrior. As far as I could tell, he had no intention of ever actually killing the mobs; he was just running some sort of parade. He could have killed his entire train three times over, one mob at a time, in the time he spent running them around to pick up just a few more mobs. There was quite a bit of hostility being expressed in /ooc by folks that had been in the zone longer than I, on both sides of the issue.

Normally, I would have just left and come back later, but I noticed that he seemed to be avoiding pulling the rogue lion, and I was feeling kind of mischievous. Since it was pretty much the only thing left to kill, I did so -- over and over. Also, our warrior friend was running the same path repeatedly with his mobs, a circuit that at one point took him around the blind corner of the mountain near the three cabins...

When finally Tarbul Earthstrider arrived, I waited for our parade marshall to round that corner and disappear from sight. Then I invited Tarbul down to that corner, and convinced him to stay put while I sat, camped, and went to the kitchen for a Coke.

I really don't know what happened after that, but when I logged back on five minutes later, parade season seemed to have ended. Even if the fellow did run smack into Tarbul, I'm sure that he was no more than a nuisance for a sow'ed 45+ warrior; regardless, the warrior and his friend had left the zone.

This is the closest I've ever come to deliberately training someone, but somehow I didn't feel bad about it. Certainly it would have been wrong to train Tarbul on the warrior, but to train the warrior on Tarbul?

Not sure, but is the tactic being described Swarm Kiting, or is Swarm Kiting something else?

At any rate, you shouldn't whine when someone jumps in and attacks mobs that are green to you but still blue to them if you're hogging most of the mobs in the zone. Its rude AND inconsiderate.

If I ran to a zone to hunt, only to find that some high lvl player was kiting all the mobs in the zone and they're green to him, then I'd have no problem whatsoever with sending in the pet, busting out the nukes, and putting him on ignore when he complains. (Or telling him to `Bite Me!', if he became rude before I ignored them)

Swarm kiting is almost exactly like that except the mobs are blue in a swarm kite and the person kills them himself instead of dragging them somewhere for someone else to kill them.

Ok. Thanks for the information, kiztent. I've only heard of Swarm Kiting from a post or two in the alt.games.everquest newsgroup, so I wasn't sure.

I'm going to take a slightly different tact on my reply; explaining the other person's point of view.

                    1) It's impossible (or nearly so) to click on a moving PC you are not grouped with who is surrounded but 6 mobs let alone "100 +". If you are a low enough level to be running for your life from them, you'll be dead by the time I actually get a target on you.
                    2) Without a target, it's impossible to tell that you are at full health or even Con you.
                    3) It's impossible for me walk up and know upon seeing you that you have ANY other PC two-boxed let alone the "Druid standing over there."
                    4) Until you cast it, it's impossible for someone else (even someone you are grouped with) to know you have upheaval loaded.
                    5) It's impossible to know that you have focus gear on unless a lot of time is spent watching you or you announce it.
                    6) It's impossible to know you have a KEI (See #5 above).
                    7) Following along and nuking someone else's mobs is questionably KS'ing but DEFINITELY harassment. Harassment is banable. I won't go into what that action does to your image since I have respect for this board's rules.

The question I'm left with after reading your post is "what was left out of this story?" I don't see any mention of you asking the person to not do it nor do I see any mention of anyone else's requests/questions to you. It's hard to read this post and have any sympathy for you plight.

Actually, it's very easy to see if someone is running from MoBs because they're in danger...

Don't click on the player, click on one of the MoBs and /assist. Then /c the person the MoB is aggroed on.

                      P.S. Love the Tarbul story.

You can also type /target playername, and if the player is within range of a spell, they'll almost certainly be within range of the command.

Angel stole my response there, just click the train and assist.

If they are hurting, send them a tell. If they are in EK, they meant to make the train, not exactly rocket science.

Eumerin... you'd have to know their name for that, hehe.

LOL, this is the same old power leveling rant with a twist.
See these 10 mobs hitting on my twinked level 6 self in unrest? no I don't need help because of that level 60 druid sitting behind me so please leave me alone!

Anyway, if you are making something that looks like a helpless newb train then expect to be helped by newbs. Not everyone got to the point when they /con players or even have an /assist hotkey set up.

It's part of the 'risks' of the zone, need to learn to live with it

Or you can go to Guk and kill spiders all day long without anyone looking funny at you too often.

It's against the rules to monopolize most or all of the mobs in an area. So not only is it unfair, you could easily have been petitioned if you did have 100 mobs chasing you around.
