  • Rant, Take Backs!

Does something like this every annoy the heck out of you?

    Twice in 2 days...

First, someone in auction channel was selling a Blue Diamond. I ask them "How much." Their response 350pp. I accept and go to meet them, after porting to nexus they say. "A friend tells me they are worth 400, will you pay that?"

I tell him it takes a lot longer to sell at 400, and he had already agreed... so he did sell for the 350... but what was that all about? The guy told me the price, not the other way around.

Second, someone is selling 20 LQ pelts (forget the type). I send a tell "I'll take the stack for 75pp.". He says "Ok, sounds good."

I tell him where to meet, then I get a message a minute later "Sorry, someone else offered 100pp".

I tell him we had a deal, and he responds with "Sorry".

I am not the type to take it farther than that, and let it drop, but that just pisses me off to no end.

Have any of you had this happen?

Yes. I feel the exacxt same way.

When you shout "Selling for 10 plat", and I repond with "Sold", we have a deal. Typos I can understand, but ESPECIALLY after you say "Ok" back to me, WE HAVE A DEAL.

When you say "Selling XYZ, PST with offer" (Which I hate anyway), and when I respond with a price that YOU AGREE TO, then we have a deal.

A verbal contract , sadly, is not even worth the paper it's written on any more.

    But god-dangit, It should be.

Yeah. That is a real drag. Those are the people that I like to have fun with. I smile and say no problem. Then, when I hear them asking for a port, I say "Sure, where to?". They say "Cobalt Scar, please." So I group them and port them to Skyfire and say "Sorry, I am headed to Chardok. I changed my mind much as you did on your item. Sorry." And then I run off. I like to think of myself as a nice guy, but I don't like to have my chain yanked. Vindication becomes me.

Oh, man, I wish I was a porting class! That would feel good to do just once!

I HATE when that happens. If it is something small, I really don't care all that much. I just shrug and say "whatever". Maybe that 100pp difference is really important to the person. When it is an item that means something to me, however, like a spell I might be looking for as a gift for a friend, and they go back on it, I get upset.

Is that something like the famous statement that 90% of baseball is half mental?

I just wish people were more like me... who doesn't. Once I have agreed to sell for a set price, if someone messages me and offers double, I might regret it, but I will tell them it is already sold... it's a moral thing.

            The joys of Vindication

About a week back I was driving home... late... I get into my parking lot and see that someone is parked in my reserved parking place. They are sitting in the car, so I get out, tap on the window and ask that they move. Those in the car say ok... and then another neighbor came out and started cursing me out, about asking the guy to get out of my spot.

I ignored him... and when the car backed out, the neighbor got in and went with them. I parked and forgot about it.

Last Nite I drove home, and saw someone parked in my spot (again). Different car... and nobody inside. I shifted around to find another "unreserved" spot and parked there. I could have called the towing service and had the car removed... but I am not vindicative. I let it slide.

THIS MORNING... I get up, look out my front window, and my car is GONE. (and my slot is empty). I call the towing service, and yes they have my car there. Apparantly, the slot I choose to park in was another reserved spot, that was not clearly marked. And my neighbor (maybe the same one who cussed me out last week) saw an opportunity to annoy me.

It cost me $85 to get my car, and a lift from a friend (Tesla came and gave me a lift)... and an hour out of my morning.

It is past time for me to move. And this was the last straw.

After living where I am for 14 years, this is the FIRST time I was ever towed out of my lot... The parking "tags" they hand out are useless. They provide no protection. no control.

Don't be vindicative. Don't hold a grudge. It is annoyances we could all do without.

              The solution is clear.

Next time someone is in your spot, have them towed.

              If you can't beat em.....

So, if you come home tonight, the car that was in your spot that was visiting your neighbor is in your spot again (though no one in it this time) and your neighbor does not answer his/her door, are you going to call the tow company or are you going to park somewhere else and risk getting towed again?

Have it towed. My apartment has designated parking that's perpendicular to the street, and my spot is right next to the curb, where people can park parallel to the street. I am frequently blocked in by people who park their cars too far forward (and I can't pull out because they are partially blocking my space).

I have them all towed. No malice, no revenge... I simply regard it as: you are in my way, and I will have someone take care of that. The company that does the towing is two blocks away, so it's a matter of moments from call to tow.

In the United States a verbal contract is binding. If you or the other party make an offer and there is a clear acceptance then a contract is made and both parties are legally bound by that (barring certain limited exceptions). Technically those people have breached their contract.

However, since there is no legal recourse in game to deal with it and it's unlikely to be seen as having much merit in RL, I suspect we're just SoL. :P

Vindication is our only recourse!!!

Too bad this game is played internationally, and in many cases, by people too young to actually enter a binding contract. Or, by people without a sense of honor, which is also a prerequisite to any binding contract...

I imagine they have international laws regarding contracts, I'm just unfamiliar with them. And you don't have to be honerable to be legally bound by a contract, that's one of the reasons the laws regarding contracts have developed, many people aren't honerable. :P
