HA! Parking spaces...
A few years ago when we lived in an apartment/townhouse we constantly had people parking in our spot (It was right next to the sidewalk up to our building) so I started having them towed. Then I started parking BEHIND them until the tow truck showed up
I can't even remember how many cars we had towed but we did become friends with the owner of the tow truck company! Eventually we had our spot moved.

Mahlig - I'm glad you don't play on Sullon. ^_^
I see from your sig pic that you have a horse. This means that you dropped, what, 100k? Congrats, and I promise I mean that with nothing resembling sarcasm whatsoever.Originally posted by LlingMaybe that 100pp difference is really important to the person.
Now, realize that BOTH my mains have, combined, 700p. Frankly, if I were in that kind of situation (someone offering me considerably more plat for given item), I very well might jump to make an extra hundred plat.
Not everyone is a jerk. Some of us are just young and poor.
Rethink: Eh, I might not do that. And the probability that I would have something that people wanted so much that between the time of me making one agreement and actually completing said transaction, someone else would offer me 100p more for it is quite low. (gah! english! gah! i have three languages in my head, this isn't fair!) In all honesty, I've never been in such a situation. But this is not the first time I've run up against the Richman-Complex on EQTC: you all seem to be lvl 40+, 50+, 60+, with loads of plat to just shift here and there.
I. AM. POOR. 100p is a lot to me, and even more to other players. Whatever opinions anyone holds, please keep that in mind.
As for the towing-people part of the conversation...
you do have my sympathy. That seems to be, more than anything, imbeciles not reading clearly marked signs. (At least in theory you have a spot all marked out and waiting for you... at my college, they sell little stickers for $100... and that's not a guarantee. They sell 3,000 stickers for 1,000 spaces. That sticker is only a License To Hunt for decent spaces. And if you haven't got a decent space, the next nearest place is a 15 min walk from down the freaking HILL/mountain. )
enough 2c from me tonight. ^_^

Parking stickers!
WOW, you have it good! 3,000 stickers for 1,000 spaces? PARADISE. PARADISE I tell you. My last school (I am no longer attending, transferring), parking permits were cheap ($45), and unless they couldn't drive, every single student owned one. That's about 14,000 people with permits. Two of the parking lots were shared with the civic center across the street, and they closed them down with little or no advanced warning. That was half of the available parking, mind you. With no street parking within a mile of the school, and the CITY street parking past that, restricted to 1 hour parking only...
I took the bus after the first two weeks because I was missing classes, while leaving for school 2 hours *before* my first class started, just because I couldn't snag a %$@# parking spot.Telaeth Everdark

90% of baseball is entirely boring.Originally posted by delfontesIs that something like the famous statement that 90% of baseball is half mental?A verbal contract , sadly, is not even worth the paper it's written on any more.

The point is that you've already agreed to a sale. Even if I had gotten a better offer I would continue with the original transaction even if I'm taking a pay cut because in essence I've given someone my word.Frankly, if I were in that kind of situation (someone offering me considerably more plat for given item), I very well might jump to make an extra hundred plat.

I didn't say legally binding. Legally binding is a for a game with an established legal code. (Try taking that person to any court and telling the judge he reneged on a deal for imaginary items.) Here, all you have is personal honor.I imagine they have international laws regarding contracts, I'm just unfamiliar with them. And you don't have to be honerable to be legally bound by a contract, that's one of the reasons the laws regarding contracts have developed, many people aren't honerable. :PToo bad this game is played internationally, and in many cases, by people too young to actually enter a binding contract. Or, by people without a sense of honor, which is also a prerequisite to any binding contract...

The odd part is, written contracts are verbal. The term Verbal, means using words.
Oral = Spoken
Written = words on paper
Verbal = both of the above
non-verbal = body language and such
Of course, if a person has no ethics, a written contract isn't worth much more than an oral one. I know a guy who was bilked out of nearly $1 million when he sold his business. Sure, the police have now issued fraud warrants against the guys who did it, but they Skipped out of the US, with the money, moments after they completed the transaction.
I'll admit, it can be annoying when someone backs out of a deal, but in most cases there will be more, or another of what you want for sale shortly. Don't let it get to you )

Point being, some of us are more, how to say, desperate than the rest of you when it comes to money.
Would I really renege on a such a verbal deal? Maybe not. I've never been in that situation, I don't know how I would act in the face of getting a whole 14% of my TOTAL money extra in one deal. Maybe kindly try to negotiate with both parties or something, I don't know.
The point of my post is to please realize that not all of us have your (seeming) funds. When you're poor... well, some things look different from down here.
This is not supposed to turn into a large 'pity me and give me plat' session; nothing I say is like that. I'd much rather be able to earn the money to pay my roomie back for the gorgeous twink items. I'm working on it, and someday I'll get there, with money and all. Just please think about such things from my type of point of view sometime, before you pronouce such immediate harsh judgement on my kind so quickly.
Now, if we still get the harsh judgement, so be it. But at least you went through that step.

When does desparation come before ethics?Point being, some of us are more, how to say, desperate than the rest of you when it comes to money.
If your kids are starving I might see you stealing a loaf of bread to feed them... this however is a game.
I am not rich... in comparison to friends etc.
When I had 1pp to my name, my word was my bond. When someday I have 100k to my name, my word will still be my bond. If I have agreed, the game is over, if I got a bad deal, the deal still goes through simply because I accepted it.
The moment someone says "OK" to an offer, in my mind my PP is no longer mine, and their Item is no longer theirs, so if someone offers the same item for a lower price, I can no longer afford it... and if someone offers them more for their item, they no longer own the item, and can't sell it to the second guy. The actual finding eachother and trading is just semantics.

Enough of baseball. Time for a hockey quote.
50 percent of winning in hockey is your goaltender, unless you have a bad one, and then it's 90 percent. (Don't know who said this, but it wasn't Yogi Berra or Henry Ford.)
With regard to parking spots, I get really annoyed with perfectly healthy people parking in spots reserved for handicapped folks.
Now what was this thread about again?

hm, point.
as i said, i don't know what i'd do. somewhere along the line i've learned to become devil's advocate, heh, so even if i get to such a situation as this and do the generally-agreed-honorable thing, i'm still going to try to get you people to try to see it from another view, even if just for a second.
so it's wrong, i can agree with that, and do. but honestly, does ANYone here remember having less than 700p to their name? not that i really expect nor want an answer to that. but so so so many of you don't sound like you're anything other than uber rich (people here and other threads), and maybe that's what's getting to me. Think about the other side for just a tiny bit, and if they're still wrong, then they're wrong. But if they have the tiniest bit of reasonable motive, that has to count for something.
wah, enough from me. i've said my piece.
:shuts up now. [/i]
