    /sigh ...

    I'm not that hard headed....

And I'm -not- debating, I'm explaining that there's no "answer" to the "problem" of Digital-only/retail boxes/both/prize awards. There's pros and cons to both (or more) sides. Pointing out holes in arugements isn't debate, doing that and saying your arguements win the point and asking for people to agree with you is debate. I personally have supported the "retail boxes with rewards" idea in the past. (re: the Wally problem) But I can see reasons to go both ways. It's like debating the difference between Cheez Whiz and Easy Cheese. Basicly the same stuff, different delivery system, it all comes down to style / marketing. And I wish to stay as far away from marketing wha... /em eyes mods... Marketing Wiz Kids... as physically and financially possible.

And yeah, some people will complain just to up their post count. Which is why I -RARELY- post on the official boards, but read posts/threads there somewhat often.

All I'm really saying is "SOE thinks this will make them more money" equals "the servers will stay on longer" equals "Itek might someday become 'uber' in his own eyes."

Itek vs. WoS SW-One content, in a group with 7k hp tanks. Itek is Uber.
Itek vs 70.5 (hard) ... Itek is a complete wuss.

Please leave the servers up until Itek breaks 12k unbuffed mana and max AA !! Please ?!!?

Oh, and hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as a BSCS/SE major (Bachelor Comp Sci / Software Engineering) it's my duty to inform you that you do NOT "own" any SOE/EQ software. You license it's use. Dial a lawyer for the 411, but the upshot is... you can't own it, because then you'd be free to de-compile it and ... /sigh

As for pre-ordering ... Normally I don't. This time I might just because TheWife's beastlord (*cough* new main) would benefit from it. (Once a day clicky beats using gate potions once a day.)

I can be convinced I'm wrong. Just convince my wife I'm wrong and she'll do it for you.

I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

I agree that SOE thinks this is what will make them more money, otherwise, they'd be doing something else (I feel differently though.)

That was funny. Thanks for the laugh.

I wasn't asking anyone to agree or disagree. Just stating my opinion on the matter. I really don't care if anyone agrees or not.

Actually, I'm a CPA with a major accounting firm. I have a Masters in Accouting with a double-minor in Mathematics & Applied Physics (don't ask why... I've just always loved math in all its many forms).

I know that I don't own the software... which is why I said I like to "own" the software.

Again, it's just personal preference. I prefer tangible items (the accountant in me ) over digital indicators. I guess this is also why I tend to not worry about my EQ "cash" situation whenever I am low on Plat, but have huge amounts of tradeskill supplies.

          Um...

I finally decided, with TheWife, to pre-order Serpent (despite some potential downsides to the way some of the stuff in the expansion is sounding post-NDA-lift) because of the in game reward.

So I log in to the store, click pre-order, fill in the info, click submit ... and it doesn't seem to take.

Repeat for my wife's account. Ditto.

Check account status ... not listed as having Serpent. Odd.

Check the store "you should get email confirmation of pre-order in three stages during the order process." Okay...

This was 8am. I checked my email repeatedly during the day. Never got a "pre-order confirmation" notice.

Guess I'm going to think about trying again... maybe be actually logging in to EQ and using the dreaded "would you like to pre-order" screen...

          /sigh

And here's another reason I don't like this whole "Pre-Order", "Digital Download" thing.

Due to unexpected bills last week, I couldn't pre-order... so I waited until Monday night (when my next check would clear) to pre-order.

            But it wouldn't let me!!!

Now I can't get the in-game item... which I could have gotten if I was able to buy it in the store!

WOOT! IT's the patch day after the patch day.... double XP here we come.... wait a min.... double XP is what brought the server down.

Been playing since '99 and somethings, no matter how much better it gets and this expansion looks pretty good so far, never change.

<shiver and shake> EQ withdrawal sucks.

                Ten.
I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.

SOE announced about a week ago that the "pre-order" item would actually be avalible to everyone.

Ran around to get port spells. New zones look cool but ran what seemed to be in slow motion sorta like the bonic man(dating myself a bit). Not laggy/choppy but seemed sluggish.

I think the best idea for Sony would be to sell some retail boxes with no reward and the digital download as well. For those on dial-up or who do not want their CC info on line, this leaves them an option PLUS the visibility PLUS the face of the game out there on the shelves. If they want to sell more DD, don't give the players an extra bonus for buying it in the stores. Either way, they make more money from the subscriptions anyway so the difference in their profit from the method of sale is probably negligible anyway.

One thing they COULD have done this time out if they wanted to use TSS as the one stop expansion for new players is package it with all the prior expansions, or at the very least the trilogy etc. so that if someone went into a store and bought TSS they could load it and play.

If I were new to EQ I would have difficulty buying the basic set (so to speak) then learning that I had to buy TSS to use the best and latest to bring my character up.
