  • Found a Glossy Drake Hide myself on the LS vendor last night. Made a great gift to a friend who has desperately looked for one.

        • On test, we now have the items in alphabetical order and it lists the quantity. Not sure if that is live everyone but it is very nice. Also, the list only seems to reset when you purchase the last (or all) of an item. I will try to verify that in the next few days.

            Double-Ugh!

How easy do they want to make Vendor-diving anyway?

What's next, having any item that is usable in tradeskills showing up with blue text, while items used in quests show up in green text, etc., etc.?

Oh, Oh, Oh... and can they have a text balloon listing all the recipes pop up when you hover your mouse pointer over the item?

Oh, that would be Worlds of Warcraft. =D

                Vendor trash is grey.
Tradeskill items and low quality gear are white.
Quest items are white, but theyre 'no-drop' so its moot.
                Good gear is green
                Rare gear is blue
                Super rare gear is purple

But theres no vendor diving in WoW. *sniffle*

But there is a UI mod that references dropable items auction house values from allakhazam, so theres no real need for price checks.

From a baking vendor in PoK. I ooc'd my thanks and someone called me a nasty name.

Some time ago, a fellow halfling tradeskiller was kind enough to give me nice cuirass that he hadn't been able to sell. It's not a GM version, but I'd wear it if I had a good DoN diety aug to go in it. Unfortunately those sell for 70k-100k on Saryrn, so right now it's rotting in my bank.

I figured now is my chance. I sent a tell to someone who was looking to buy Metallic Drake Scales and asked if he could make me an aug. The answer: Sure, he'd attempt to make me an aug if I'd give him if scale, and the ore, and the water, and...

                        20 thousand platinum

Am I missing something? Don't I already have all the rare materials? And chances are good, he'd have a chance to get a skillup. On a good day I might scrape together 20k, but to turn over that kind of hard-earned cash when I'm taking all the risk... feels like highway robbery. I'm glad this is the primal scream area, because I need to.

I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

                        • Sorry for the long delay but to clarify my earlier post. The list does NOT reset to the top when you purchase all of an item. Don't worry I still find all sorts of good things when I vendordive so either people aren't observant or they just don;t know what is really hard to find.

This is on TEST server BTW

Well, you know, as pretty much everyone does here, that tradeskilling, especially blacksmithing and tailoring are not cheap. They are insanely time consuming and tend to rule over play times. What's to say the person buying the scales wasn't already maxed skill?

People offering to buy scales in general are bad to ask for one primary reason. They are in trades to make plat, and lots of it, fast. They generally charge the most for combines also as making an item for you that is not no drop then becomes a risk to their business. So... they bite into your profits to make you charge more to recoup your losses. Sucks for those legitamently needing the item, but there's a lot of people that lie about that kind of stuff too. Hard not to be jaded somedays.

I know it all too well. I make some of the Expert armor myself when I can.

Good point. If he's already maxed, then I'd rather take it to someone who can skill up on it. Worse odds of success for me, but I give something back to the folks struggling to skill up.

I've been coming here for most of my 5 years in EQ and reading guides. Consistently, they all say, if you want to make money in a trade, avoid paying for materials.

I think you're right. Someone paying for high end materials is trying to acheive something that's pretty unlikely in the first place. These guys try anything to turn a buck, even charging so much they drive off a customer.

That may be his logic. It works if he's got a corner on the market or some special advantage like having the rare parts himself.

In fact, there's 3 or 4 PAGES of GM symbols in a bazaar search, on 6 or 7 different traders. This suggets there's a bunch of folks who can make these things. So the result is, I'll flag down one of the others and offer what I can for the combine and the effort inherit in the pattern. Whoever accepts gets recommended to my guild as the one to turn to if they need any GM symbols made. I can't pay much, but it's something and by pricing so high, he's not only losing my business, but losing me as a customer and a possible source of referrals.

Well, if I were after cash, I'd be just about as well off just selling him the scale. I'd be taking a lot of risks, not just the risk of losing the component on a failed combine, but also the extremely risky notion that someone would need that specific slot, with my specific diety.

I was pretty annoyed at the time, but now I'm feeling like it was just silly. His loss.
