Darnit, why can't the English word for 'homework' have more 'a's? 'H_us_ufg_ben' would have been so much more fun to type, not to mention imagining people trying to pronounce it without the 'a's.....

                Totally addicted = No life.

I have been playing EQ since 99. The guy I was with at the time introduced it to me and since day 1 I have been addicted.

EQ was recently the cause of my last relationship of 3 years to come to an end seeing that I would rather play than spend time with the boyfriend.

As I see it, you are either...

Complete Addict- Forget RL, as far as your concerned EQ is as real as it gets. You know almost everyone on your server and even know people who play on other servers.

Semi-addict- You spend a lot of time playing, but still have RL friends who come around knowing EQ hasn't completely warped your brain and sucked you in. You know a lot of people on your server, and your friend/ignore list grows everyday.

Addictive Tendacies- Though you have social life, you will cancel plans with RL friends to work on a skill-up that will get you to the next section, or go to a raid in hopes that the item you have drooling over drops.

Casual Player- You play EQ, but you will log off if something comes up in RL and do that instead of saying "Maybe next time"

Visitor- You log into EQ once in a blue moon. Puddle around for a bit and log off. You don't really know anyone on the server you play on because you haven't spent enough time to create any type of relationship.

                  So where would I fall?

-I play EQ whenever I can, as much as I can (40+ hours per week I would bet)
-I know a large number of people IRL that play or played on Prexus, and just as many who play/played on other servers
-I hold weekly Q&A sessions with friends who are just starting or need advice
-I will still drop everything and go do RL stuff with friends when they call up and ask (Bazaar mule time)
-I speek EQese (you know, shorten everything as much as you can and use a lot of acronyms and typos) in chat rooms and when IM'ing people, and occasionally IRL.

                  I am a.....?

I don't even have a TV. And since the average American spends 2-3 hours PER DAY watching TV, I don't feel bad about the time I spend playing EQ, which at least engages the creative portions of my brain (I'm a roleplayer).

However I am also trying to run two businesses at once. Technically I should ONLY do anything leisure-wise on weekends, yet for the past two weeks what with forming a guild and running two campaigns, suddenly I find I'm taking 3-hour lunch breaks, starting work an hour late, and leaving an hour early. *sigh*

I need to get control of myself surely. We need a support group or something.

                    -M.B.

I agree with Nhin entirely. EQ has been very good for me in so many ways that I can't begin to cover. I also met my real life boyfriend in EQ and he and I have been together for 3+ years. We took some time off from EQ when we got burned out, but we've started over again in the last couple of weeks and are now playing on the Druzzil Ro (Xev) server. I'm having a blast with baking and brewing and hunting. I've been able to recapture some of the magic I felt when I first started playing.

Despite everything, I love this game. And it seems to have gotten better in a lot of ways, which I am glad about.

                        thread necromancy = bad

most of the posters in this thread quit EQTraders, if not EQ entirely, a while ago...
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.
