Nice one, guess I should look at the borads more often, I have been making the same thing, so far I have done Tinkering, Brewing and almost finished baking :P

This is where I have to laugh at myself!! There is no DEX index...hahahah. I'll be sure and get that into the file for the next release.

Also, you might consider putting links from each page to the main index, sort by trivial, and sort by name pages. *shrug* Just a thought. As it stands, (unless this myopic mathematician missed something, which happens often) it seems that, after you look at some entry or some page, the only way to get back is to click on the storyline title. Having the aforementioned links would make navigation a little less tedious. (e.g. if you go to sort by triv, and click on one item, but meant to hit the one above it, you have to start at the beginning) Anyhow, once again great work.

There should be a link back to the index (well actually the index itself) at the bottom of every recipe page.

I'll see about putting a link back to the main index at the top of all the sub index pages though.

Ok, am I a complete n00b or am I Missing some files or something? I downloaded the files and unzipped them and they are in the story window, but when I click a link, nothing happens.

I can deal with n00bness, but would like to fix this if it's something simple.

the 'story[lothbake].txt' or whatever exactly goes in the [lothbake] place.... that txt file is in your storyline window. then there is an 'eqtraders' folder you must have, in which is lothien's 'baking' folder.

Lothien - I looked at your files a long long time ago, right after you posted the first version, and i was really really impressed. an absolutely huge chunk of info, layed out in an incredibly organized way.

The only thing, and i never thought i'd hear myself say this... it's too organized. Let me see if i can think of an example...

Take a recipe like Noodles. Flour, Water, [egg]. But which egg the baker uses will determine yield. In this compendium, every single change in a base recipe suddenly warrents its own page. This actually could be not such a bad idea, except on the index-type pages where you click the link to take you to the actual page with the recipe, there is nothing distinguishing one Noodle link from the next. it's just,
                      Noodles
                      Noodles
                      Noodles
                      Noodles
                      Noodles
                      Noodles
                      etc

And frankly, I don't want to click ALL those noodle links to find out which noodle link i really want. and this happens with lots of links: Clump of Dough, Patty Melt, Omelette Du Fromage.... frankly I don't want to click around that much. one or two clicks, find my recipe, begone and back to playing.

Hence, I will spout a piece of advice/request: either modify ONE Noodle recipe page to account for ALL Noodle recipes, or modify your various indexes to say, maybe
                      Noodles, Basilisk foraged
                      Noodles, Basilisk looted
                      Noodles, Snake
                      etc

I delayed saying this for so long because i was afraid it would come across as jealousy or something equally stupid but dangerous. But your link is still in my window, and i do click it from time to time. Your work is incredible, do not get me wrong. But I guess there is such a thing as too much organization.

Also, this might just be a personal thing.... The overriding idea that i have of your stuff is BLUE. BLUE EVERYWHERE, AND THEN MORE BLUE. And then a little white, AND THEN MORE BLUE. I need more colors, or i'm gonna feel like i'm lost in permafrost again. But, as noted, that might just be personal opinion.

                        Sanna,

I admit, I don't like the way the recipes lay out that produce duplicate items either. I just never came up with a better layout, while keeping the same feel and I wanted to get the product out there rather than hold it up in develope for that one issue. I do want to explain a little of why it's the way it is though. I've placed each recipe in a relational database, and as you noted, what makes a recipe unique is if it's ingredients are different or it's yield is different. When I query the database for recipes, I have no way to easily say, if this product identical, just collapse it into a single recipe.

With that said, here is something I was thinking of doing.

                        -----------------------------------------------------------------
                        Noodles (index page)

                        - (Sub index for duplicate recipe)

                        - Noodle - snake egg, water flask, cup of flour
                        - Noodle - basilisk egg (foraged), water flask, cup of flour
                        - Noodle - basilisk egg (looted), water flask, cup of flour

                        -- Noodle (Unique Recipe Detail)
                        -----------------------------------------------------------------

Something like that. You would still have to click a Noodle recipe twice to get to the detail, but at least you don't have to click blindly looking for the right recipe. This will take a bit of time to get into the files because I have to write program code. If you have any suggestion on some other ways to display this information, please feel free to mention it. The only thing I ask is to try to keep it in some kind of reference form.

Hehe..about the color scheme, at some point I might make a second version that supports more colors. My original thought was to keep everything within a scheme of colors to distinquish it from other mods. Fortunately, it wouldn't be tons of work to add colors because all of these files are built using a custom program that I wrote. So I would just have to add an option to the program to allow me to select colors instead of have them hard coded.

Thanks for your input. It was very constructive. I made these files for everyone's use and any suggestions to make them better is always welcome. Would you like to do the pottery version for me before I go mad and start killing innocent snow bunnys?

ah, i didn't realize you had a program writing up these pages for you! I was like, good lord this guy is a masochist or whatever, doing ALL THAT BY HAND. Knowing that (re the program) makes you a lot more sane now. ^_^

                          re pottery...
ty, no. already gone through pottery once, including formatting/coloring the faith/spiritstones and the imbued idols. Still debating which one was worse, baking for length or pottery. Compared to those two, everything else, even the smithed armor/weapons stat pages and the tailored armor stat pages, is relatively easy.

And if you start killing snow bunnies, tell me, and i'll follow you and loot the eggs. or whatever comes from snow bunnies?

altho, regarding the sub-menu thing.... i hate moving my mouse, esp having to aim for a little link. lag in most zones (esp pok, where i do most of my skilling) SUCKS. I have a nice fast machine in a box behind me, but since my BF still has finals, i still lag and zone slow till he can tinker it together. Anywho, i like to click maybe 3x at most, then use my nice scroll button (i hope i don't wear it out someday, eep) to find what i want. hence all my recipes are all on one page. (also they came from eqtc that way.^_^)

so anyway, can we tell i'm avoiding a philosophy paper? Any way to give the most information in the shortest amount of time is good. Some people might be able to deal with clicking more than i, and like to scroll less. but still, information on demand is the end result.

no more avoidance for me, i do paper now. many compliments for your system, and sorry for the rambling.
