  • Gnome rogue base stats for tinkering?

I have a gnoe rogue that I use for tinkering. Yttrium ore is a really easy path for skill up. I dont mind destroying the items when done as it is a vastly cheaper route the getting 300 tinkering the conventional way.

I use a rogue and his base stat is STR unbuffed at 252. His INT is only 147. Someone told me that tinkering is based off of INT only. On a character select screen I did not see anything that refers to tinkers needing INT for tinkering and assumed that like other tradeskills, the highest will determine what stat is his primary stat for getting skill-ups. Is this true? Or do I gotta go through all the trouble of making this rogue lose STR to gain INT for skill-ups?

The highest of int or wis determines the skill up rate in tinkering, baking, brewing, pottery, JC, research, alchemy, and tailoring.

The highest of int, wis, and dex determines the skill up rate in poison making and fletching.

The highest of int, wis, and str determines the skill up rate in smithing.

Qaladar has the right of it, its probably a good idea to check a few slots in bazaar to find which will be easier/cheaper of wis/int for you.
I feel I should also comment on the yttrium idea: By the time you hit 282 tinkering, you will wish you had saved all those bricks for the long 282-300 haul. There are much easier (conventional) ways of reaching 282, believe me, you will be sick of farming thought horrors after 10 skill-ups, let alone 282. Also bear in mind that you have an higher chance of a skill-up on a success than on a fail, which is why most people use recipes with a slightly higher trivial than their skill.
      Good luck on your tinkering.

Rogues share a lot of armor with rangers and shamans which are both wis casters. Thus, you will probably find that it is easier to raise your wis than your int.

        YMMV.

That's apparently true, or at least it sure is for my rogue. Without worrying about either wis or int when selecting gear upgrades he's wound up with wis that is nearly 100 points higher than his int. My rogue is a dwarf, but for a gnome I would tend to think that apart from any differences in the starting base stats for the two respective races (which do, of course, factor in here) it should also be largely true. The difference between wis and int on a gnome rogue would be a bit less, but I'm pretty sure wis would still come out on top once the rogue started to get some good gear, at least until both stats are simply hitting their hard caps in the high end game.

Actually being I farmed no-drop luclin items for my tinkerer rogue. Believe it or not, INT is vastly higher then WIS by a large margin. Got +20INT off of just the primary and secondary using corrupted Shissar daggers. While the little squirt is only level 30, once he reaches 35 his INT will be upped yet again with a full set of expert's gear along with a prospective +5 to all stats aug from DS.

But yeah, had I twinked him with the bazaar not only would the loot have been of vastly lower quality, but going through the bazaar, it is obvious WIS woulda been the prodominate stat.
