Search for "Autoactuated" in the EQ Traders database to see the four levels of smithed armor sets and "Metalofiber" for the tailored armor.

I really, really, really, really hope SOE greatly increases the drop rate for Knuckle Joints, Innovative Clockwork Bolts, and Innovative Clockwork Gears in the Plane of Innovation (or even add them to ALL NPC tinkering supply vendors or the loot tables for the mobs in the Steamfont Mountains).

I agree 101%, but would add Coiled Springs (and Clockwork Carapaces if they're feeling generous) to the list also.

You missed Brodybeard's point quite a bit Druegar. He isn't looking for those items for skillups, but rather for tinkered cultural armor. The tinkering recipes for the cultural tailoring, and cultural smithing, call for parts from the tailoring/smithing recipes to be replaced by knuckle joints and innovative clockwork bolts in smithings, and clockwork gears in tailoring. The drop rate of knuckle joints, combined with the common usage of them for skillups as crab crackers, is going to cause a serious lack of parts for the ambitious gnome to tinker armor. Add to this the fact that not many people spend their time grinding in PoI anymore, and we have a large problem.

This could be a possibility for the innovative gears and bolts, but will never happen with the knuckle joints unless they changed the trivial on the crab cracker to below 122, the first point at which you can no longer do cheap combines from vendor bought supplies. I doubt that they would do that, but it would be a wonderful idea.
The one thing that we can do is GET OUT THE WORD! TELL EVERY TINKER YOU KNOW NOT TO MAKE CRAB CRACKERS! The more tinkers that hear about the new cultural need for the crab crackers the better, but I think most people that have no desire to do the cultural will still make the crab crackers for skill chances. I know I wasted a dozen of them the day DoN came up getting myself to 252 without knowing they were for the new cultural tinkering until the nextr day Man was I upset...

What's the point of using knuckle joints for cultural armor? It gives you the exact same results as the other way, right? I'd much rather use them for skills ups, cause what else are you gonig to use? Tailoring and smithing our armor uses NPC-purchased items, which are pricey but not prohibitive.

Apparently, the innovative gears and bolts, and the knuckle joints, are the penatly drops for tinkering the armor instead of using smithing and tailoring as they were meant to be made. Many people have GM status in on or more tradeskills, but not all of them. Frankly, I haven't broken 200 on most of my skills because they aren't important enough to me to use my precious AAs for at this time.

Agree with that completely. If I had two knuckle joints I wouldn't use them for tinkered armour unless I really wanted the armour and couldn't smith it. I certaily wouldn't waste them trying to get one very expensive skillup chance when I could use them to get two very cheap skillup chances via crab crackers.

                  lol Druegar

Kakg: I for one, am not a GM smith, as I haven't spent the AAs to break 200 in multiple skills, and I very much enjoy making new things. I have made virtually every tinkered item at least once. I make new things just for fun

Hey, no sweat over that - I think all of us here have that same view. I've made every item I can get parts for at least once if only to be able to say I have made them.

Now..... here comes the kicker....... given what Maddoc recently said about making adjustments to all the tradeskill trivials and after what we've seen happen tailoring just yesterday..... what chance that Crab Crackers and Woks will stay at their current trivials?

Me, I'm not taking the risk. I plan to hit PoI very hard over the next few days and try to push my tinkering before we have something similar to the Solstice Robe fiasco in tinkering.

Crab Cracker, Wok, and PoP Bow Cam trivial values have not changed... yet.

I noticed the tinkering robe and gm spanner stack to equal 275 now..

                          They don't stack.

                          Robe is 10%.

                          250 + 10% = 275.

If the spanner and robe stacked it would be 250+ 15% = 287

Yo had me going there for a second

Can u make Metalofiber swatches in a regular sewing kit or is there a gnome cultural one?

There is a gnome cultural sewing kit added with DoN. I haven't tried the tailoring recipes for DoN yet so I couldn't say that the swatch subcombines need the cultural sewing but I would strongly suspect it. The good thing though is that the new sewing kit is a 10 slot box so it can be swapped into your bank instead of one of your current bank boxes and you don't have to lose out on space.

BTW the Ak'Anon forge you need to use to combine the sewing kit is the one directly facing the Bard Respresentive in Ak'Anon. It's not makred as the cultural forge but it's the only one which works for this combine.
