  • DoN Tinkering?

I have three questions for those who might have been involved in the Beta.

    1) Are tinkers allowed to raise their skill cap to 300 as with the other trades?

    2) Do we have to do anything to break the 250 cap e.g. AA's or is the cap just removed if you have DoN?

    3) Any new tinkering recipes in DoN?

Item 1 is my most pressing interest as I have recently been given two veru precious Icy Gelidrian Hides from my guild and don't want to risk them at 252 if I might be able to raise my skill higher before the attempt at a churn.

There is a book on the PoK tinkering merchants that talks about improving armor. There is mention of cloth/silk, plate, and chain types. I didn't have time to look into due to patch, but it looks like tinkering was not completely forgot.

I can tell you this much... when I open my toolbox and have my spanner equiped, it states my modded skill is 262, instead of the 252 it stated 2 days ago. I will continue to try for an unmodded skill of 251....

Dinged 251 making bow cams the other night so I assume it will go all the way to 300. Doubt I will be trying to raise it that high unless someone gives me 1000 clockwork carapaces.

Tinkering level is removed and max level is 300.

According to a message in the spell research section. tinkering, alchemy, poison, and research all have had their caps removed and they are no longer limited by level. The only drawback is that you can no longer train any at a guild master past the typical tradeskill cap.

            Clockwork Grease

And in response, all tinkering components (I'm assuming all 250+ skill tradeskill components) triple in price in the bazaar . Bastages!

And the answer to question #3 is, no, no new tinkering recipes this time around.

No new recipes? I have seen this book too - sold in Abysmal at tinkerers .. had a quick look it said to remove the silk (or metal from armor combines) and use a "contraption" ..... any guesses as to what this might be?

From the brief look I took at the new tinkering book, it seems to be an alternate cultural armour for gnomes using tinkering items/drops instead of the bronze bits. I'll know more when I've got my pattern and apprentices book and can do some experimenting.

Oops! My bad! I forgot that th' new cultural specifically frae gnomes has two versions of the cultural stuff ... one tinkered, and one smithed/tailored.

Um, th' ogre sorta got an infestation of gremlins when he was trying tae get th' recipes in, and e'en the smithed an' tailored stuff are showing as tinkering right now ... he'll fix them all a bit later.

So is the same end result as the other smithed armor? Or is it a more traditional gnomish type of armor? (ie clicky effects)

Both the smithed cultural armor, and the tailored cultural armor, can be tinkered! I am still quite disappointed that we didn't get any non-cultural recipes as many tradeskills did, but this is very good news. I have already made a few of the low end pieces.
The book from PoK will indeed tell you about the tinkering for the armors. It DOES NOT list the recipes; it only listed what to change from the tailoring and smithing recipes to get them to work.
The bad news: the subcombines for the silk and plate armors appear unchanged, so, your tailoring and smithing skill still need to be enough to do them, or start looking for someone to do the subcombines for you. The silk swatches for the Journeyman armor trivial at 62 tailoring. The silk swatches for Expert trivial at 122, so they aren't that difficult.
The Journeyman's Metalofiber Robes have a tinkering trivial of 139. I'll post the trivial for the more advanced items as I get them. This may prove an interesting skill up path if the trivial on the expert items is high enough.

Can you post the exact recipe for tinkering them? I messed around with it the other day, but kept getting DNCs.

                            Thanks,

Most of the combines are in the batabase. I know that the gnome gear was very messed up, so there still may be some issues, but it should get you pretty close.
You still have to do all of the questing for the books, as if you were smithing or tailoring the armor. There is a book on Taben in PoK that explains how to change the recipes for tinkering.
