Above post also refers to a knife making machine - most likely for making stacks of throwing knives. So who is going to take up the challenge of being the first to lock this recipe down?

Well, I have a boot gasket (so the tentacle is covered) hopefully I will get an enchanter tonight to help with the enchanted folded sheet metal, then I'll have a piston!

Hmm...... I was about to say that you really needed to find an enchanter who is human as that recipe is a human cultural smithing recipe.

However, I just did a check on Enchanted Folded Sheet Metal and the recipe isn't race restricted anymore unless you attempt to se Queynos or Freeport forges. When did that change - I could have sworn it was humans only last time I checked? Ah well good news for me as it means I wont have to train up a human smith just to do that combine after all.

True, I found that out myself when I made an ice cream churn last week. Though I was confused about the recipe initially (I assumed that the chanter could enchant a block, but alas the recipe requires large bricks of hq ore).

Well, I made the sheet last night, then re-discovered that the piston requires 2 boot gaskets - and therefore 2 severed feran tentacles! Sadly, I only had one tentacle; so I am in waiting mode until I get my little gnomish hands on another tentacle!

OK, I re-read the recipe from the book (which is available from the tinkering merchants above the smiths in PoK), the recipe is:

Several sheets of high

Rod for handle, I suppose
Bolts to hold it together

Probably need a power source

2 pistons(!), 4 tentacles, joy.

Finally, I have the 2 pistons, now the fun continues...

Does it require an actual blade, such as a tiny dagger, throwing knife, or even a fine steel dagger, or does it use the knife cutting blade pattern!? Hmmm, perhaps the pattern is used to tinker (or smith) a knife...

The "rod for handle" could in-fact be a metal shaft, as Cerpicio found in the Perpetual Motion Device!

I am assuming the bolts to be 1 (or 2) gnomish bolts.

The power source will presumably be a mana battery 5 (or 6), unless it is something magnetic...

Anyway, heading back to tinker some more!

Doesn't the text read -- 2 good blades?

It seems that you must use the Knife Cutting Blade Pattern with a good quality steel to make a blade or two.

No! Actually, it says:

Which I am taking to mean "2 x Steam Piston" & "1 x Good Blade".

Also, on Page 4 of the book it says:

"Made pattern for blade.
Still need to find right
material to make it from."

Which suggests that the "Knife Cutting Blade Pattern" could actually be used to tinker the "good blade"... which may make you (sort of) correct Mukaka!

The patterns stats are now:

I'm guessing it DOES need a knife of some sort in the recipe (like the Anizok's Gauze Press requires a bandage as a component, then summons bandages).

So far we've seen the shivs dropped in LoY zones, and the Tiny Daggers used to summon enchanter pets show up with tradeskill flags, so would seem logical to try adding one of those to the mix.

I am now beginning to think that the recipe may use "Magnetised Bolts" and or "Enchanted (Folded) Sheet Metal" (not sure if you can have non-folded).

I believe that covers all the combinations for these materials... which leaves enchanted sheets and magnetised bolts as the next step, imho.
