whatever advice anyone can give my noobish behind on how and where in sro to make the terrorantula spawn would be greatly appreciated. i spent 2 hours in the desert part of the zone to no avial. all i could glean was that Southern Ro was the only place to get terrorantula silk...

I'm not 100% certain about this, but I thought SoE made a change to the drops of Terrorantula Silks several months ago. I believe they now drop off of any terrorantula in the zone and not just merely the rare terrorantula (think that's why prices plummeted, as I remember ignorantly buying some at what I thought was a reduced price immediately before the change, not knowing that they were going to become so much more common).

Anyone else care to shed some light on this particular question. I usually just watch for them in the bazaar, although I am sure I will be farming some soon enough (once I hit 250).

Spiders in SRo. Kill them and kill them all repeatedly. Terrorantula(lings) is on their cycle.

I have spent a LOT of time there with my Ranger farming Sunlights and silks for my various alts Spiders for silks undead/madmen for sunlights (to spawn the mobs that drop them I mean).

Be aware that the Terrorantula is actually one of the nastier mobs in the zone. She's also bad news for arachnophobes.

they made us watch dragon half for the second time the other week in anime club... personally I enjoyed it, but we had to wait until the club president and his roommate were out of town cause they cant stand it.

anyway, terror silk should be all over the dark elf vendors in Sro as well, that's were I got most of the stuff that's sitting around waiting for me to get back to tailoring now.

On Xegony, I used to be able to hoard them at 10pp a pop, or if I was tired, buy them for 51pp off an NPC vendor.
Since they became less rare, the prices on Xegony run 75pp+ (And there's been one or two people with 100+ silks! And not even converted to swatches!)

Your server's mileage may vary, but 75pp for something so common that so FEW people actually use, is just insane.

Terrorantula Spawn Cycle - South Ro

a puma
a sand mummy
a dune tarantula
a desert tarantula
a terrorantuling
Terrorantula

The above mobs will spawn in a wave and wander until dead. Roughly 45 seconds after the last of a wave is dead, a new wave will spawn from the above list. Waves can be 3-6 mobs on average and spawn primarily along the east and west walls, roaming toward the center.
Note: Having a tracker makes this much easier as default tracksort is by spawn time. I.E. all new mobs will be at the top of the list once you get the cycle started.

Terrorantula silk only drops from Terrorantula and the terrorantulings. None of the other spiders in the zone will drop it, they drop normal spider silk.

Also be sure to ask people in the zone if they have looted any. Also check all the vendors in South Ro, including the one in the northwest corner by the orc (forgot his name). People will sometimes get Terrorantula or the Terrorantulings while they are killing the zone to try to spawn the AC for jboots, and will either keep the silk or sell it to one of the vendors.

For some reason, at least on Inny, I frequently find terrorantula silk in Neriak, particularly in the necro-shadowknight guild. Might be worth making a shop-bot if you can't get in there yourself.

Update....

Dropped in the other night before going on a Sol Ro raid and managed to get 30 terrorantula silk in about 2.5 hours. Got 38 normal silk as well.

Notes.

Apparently it's possible to have two cycles going, similar to having two Hunters or Foragers in Trakanon's Teeth. I did not manage to get Terrorantula to spawn twice at the same time altho I did see him a total of 3 times.

Terrorantuling spawns averaged 1-2 per cycle with 1 being most common. 3-5 silks per spawn.

Normal spawns were running 2-5 with a few 1 or 6 spawn waves.

There were a few pauses in the spawn cycle where nothing would spawn at all for 3-4 minutes.

Mobs will despawn on occaision. Not sure of the cause but know that they did as I was the only one in zone for most of this time. Seen a Sand Giant disappear off tracking while no one else was there. Also spiders doing the same occaisionally.

New NPC's in zone.
A dark elf female at the vendor tents who says something about hunting for Gargantua (sp) but won't speak to me much as she barely tolerates wood elves.
An Erudite Necromacer with pet. Responsible for a few mobs disappearing as he would randomly attack stuff.
