It has, it seems, had an impact

On E'ci for the past few weeks, there has been a shortage of spiderling silk in the bazaar, and the price has risen to, 5pp per spiderling silk, with a few brief exceptions which get bought quickly. [previously it could be found as low as 1.5pp and rarely hard to get at 3pp per]

On Sunday, there were people whining about the high prices. Interestingly, the price of LQ & MQ rockhopper hides have also gone up and stayed up, which makes sense since people trying to use shadeling silk instead to make leather padding then lock themselves into needing a little rockhop.

I reference you to this post that got moved to the primal scream, but which was intended to be a consideration of the impact of such things as Spiderling Flesh on the cost of skilling up as a smith:

And, just to be safe, I'll say I am not complaining. I am fascinated by the EQ economy, and I see this as a great example of how a decrease in supply works its way though the economy.

I tried Feerott this weekend, and felt like I was banging my head against the wall!

I used to be able to get a stack of spiderling silks there easily. There were sometimes leg drops, but mainly it was spiderling silks, sometimes 2-3 at a time.

This time, of 10 silk drops, *2* were spiderling silks, 43 were black spiderling silks, 5 were pristine spiderling silks! This happened several times (I went back again a couple of times - thought my mind must have been playing tricks on me... but it wasn't!)

It wouldn't be so bad if the black and pristine spiderling silks would combine (two of the same sort of course) to threads... but they don't! (and yes, I *did* try!)

I ended up buying what I could find in the bazaar for way over what I felt comfortable paying for them... and I still have 13 (cat) pelts in the bank waiting for more threads

Field of Bone isn't too bad.

Between the city zone and Warsliks zone, there is a tunnel going underground. Inside are a few rooms. Nothing but bonebinder and bonecrawling hatchlings.

I wipe those, then run back topside and kill the hatchlings there. I may even move further down, or to the other side of the pit, and farm bonebinders for spider silks.

About 10 minutes later, the underground ones repop.

        Wash, rinse, repeat.

With the rate of silk drops being reduced in the standard newbie zones, one place that might be worth a try is: Western Karanas.

I took my ranger there for a couple of hours this weekend, primarily to see how the quality pelt drop rates were (not good), and see what else I could pick up.

In maybe 2 and a half hours, I got a little more than a stack of quality pelts (but including 3 HQ bear), about 3 stacks of spider silk, and 5 stacks of spiderling silk, which surprised me.

There are not many spiderlings in the zone and they are spread out, but they drop up to 5 silks each and their loot table does not appear to have been modified as other zones have. I didn't really concentrate on them - I would grab one if it showed up on the first page of my track screen.

I think if someone figured out where the spawn spots were and actually focused on them, they could get a pretty decent rate of drops, and of course pick up some other stuff in the process. And there is obviously zero competition here.

You would have to be a tracker to make this worthwhile. I may go back and try it again and see if I can produce a little more detailed info on them.

Upper Guk and SolB are some other choices for you. Not sure of your lvl so proceed with caution if that is the case.
I've farmed spider silks by the bag in Upper Guk but never seen spiderLING silks there...could you suggest where? I usually go to Feerott and I'd rather get 'em in Guk.

I used to be able to get 10 stacks of ling silk in 2-3 hours hunting in Feerrott, now it seems to be about 1/3 that. I tried NRO and EC for a short while and though the drop rate seemed less for those two zones as well, I only spent 30 minutes in each so it wasn't a good comparison. I have been sampling the padding prices the past two weeks and except for one occasion when I used up 4 stacks myself and then found someone offering 35pp each piece, typical prices are still 20-25 for most sellers and up to 35pp for those few that never seem to sell much.

Therefore, I can't see spending all the extra time farming silk threads until the padding prices rise enough to pay for the extra effort and frustration. Incidently, I have always hunted in SB for pelts because they are so common. Rockhopper drops would have to be comparable to make a zone switch worthwhile, does anyone know how the rate compares?
