  • LoY ribbon dye component foraging/farming

A couple of notes on collecting dye components:

I can't forage, so all this is from killing.

Spent a KEI's worth of time (extended, so maybe 3 hours) in Dagnor's getting cauldron prawns. I found them to only drop off the aqua goblins. I mostly killed at the camp of 4 AGs with AE nukes and grabbed any wanderers. Saw no prawns on many rat and snake kills. No prawns, either, from the four-orc camp (across the zone from the four-goblin camp). I was able to get a stack of prawns in about 3 hours, but probably could have gotten more if I had settled down on the goblins immediately (I ranged far and wide killing at first, until I realized that only the goblins were dropping prawns). The prawns may drop from other mobs, but were vanishingly rare on anything but the aqua goblins, in my experience.

Also spent a while hunting giants in FM hoping to get lichenclover (also spent a KEI's worth of time there). That expedition was a complete wash. Didn't see a single lichenclover on maybe 50 giant corpses (I didn't keep count but am just guessing). Was I hunting the wrong mobs? One lowbie character in zone offered to sell me one for 300pp, but I neglected to ask him where he looted it. I'll try drolvargs in FV, but hunting in FM certainly is more comfortable for me.

    cheers,

the drolvargs in FV do drop lichenclover, any drolvarg can do. Tried a few frogs and other mobs, never saw a clover, but too small a sample to be sure. Hard to buy clovers as this place is rarely camped apart from the monk quesy guy and the AJ for VP key - happened across a pally hunting the AJ recently, he gave me a few clovers, refused to take any pp for me, he was Irish in RL

But what about in FM? Has anyone had any success with lichenclover drops from mobs there? I don't seem to recall any drolvargs in FM....

      thanks,

        On a slight post hi-jacking..
Anyone noticed which of the 8 possible foraged components for dyes used in ribbons are easier to forages than other, if any?

Assweed seems to be the biggest pain. Averaging 2 of 15 either above or submerged for Seahorse Roe. Honey Berry seems very common and easy to find, especially on vendors. Steamfont Spring Water seems fairly easy to find. I got 1 every 30-45 minutes of Cursed Clover of Viesar. Sylvan Berries aren't too bad if you also kill the Faeries and Brownies. Some have said the Orcs in lfay also drop the Sylvan Berries, but I don't want to ruin my DE faction. Plant Shoots are a pain somewhat. On the other hand, I have not tried foraging Maneater Buds, Bamboo Shoots, Lichen Clover or Plains Roots.

Maneater Buds is rare, took me an hour to get 1 (for the Fine Antique quest). Lichenclover is about 2 an hour.

My ranger runs around Lfay killing orcs and foraging for sylvan berries. They're not as easy as foraging lichenclover in Field of Bone. Lichenclover is foraged in other zones too, but FoB is the best for it.

I'd say Honey Berry, Steamfont Spring Water, and possibly Cursed Clover of Viesar are the easiest.

That's if you want to make platinum ribbons. But if you are foraging these to sell them, without making them into ribbons yourself, the best sellers would probably be Bamboo Shoots, Sylvan Berries, and Plains Roots.

Well, to re-hijack my own thread, do you find that lichenclover drops from any particular mobs in Field of Bone? For those non-forager tailors among us, what can we kill for our clover fix? So far, I think the list is:

Firiona Vie - drolvargs (uncommon drop)
                Dreadlands - drolvargs (rare drop)
                Frontier Mtns - unknown
                Field of Bone - unknown

BTW, plant shoots and bamboo shoots are also used by bakers and so have another market in that tradeskill.

                cheers,
                -Greeb

There are rumors of both lichenclover and honey berry coming from giants in frontier mountains. But if it does it's quite rare. I haven't heard of it dropping in FoB at all, forage only.

Mass slaughter in Steamfont seems best if you can't forage. The orcs, faeries, and some of the brownies in Lfay are low level too, so you could see how it goes there. Drolvargs in FV are reportedly good, but they're not low level.

It's possible that only the wandering giants in FM drop honey berry or lichenclover. As I mentioned in the first post, out of 50 giants (in the giant fort), I got no clover and (I didn't mention this) only 1 honey berry. Although... it probably doesn't make sense to speculate that the fort giants would have one loot table and the wandering giants another.

Also, I didn't kill any moles or goblins. It's possible either of those have higher drop rates.

I'll have to try out the drolvargs in FV. I'm a 52 cleric, and the drolvargs in DL are pretty easy for me (though not green to me, and I can't kill them em masse, alas).

                    cheers,
                    -Greeb

I can verify that lichenclover drops of FM giants and is not a rare drop.

I have gotten honey berry off drolvargs in DL.

                        To hijack the thread again...

Anyone know what to kill in Erud's Crossing to get Seahorse Roe? Anything, or are there specific mobs that seem to drop it? Been having a bloody hard time foraging it (averaging not much more than 1-2 an hour), and hoping to add to that rate if possible. Also hoping this doesn't mean I'll have to fight underwater. :P

Also somewhat interested in what in Stonebrunt drops bamboo, but I've got a decent supply of that for now, so it's a lower priority...

Would be doing the killing with a 30 druid, not the chanter listed in my sig...

Seahorse Roe drops off of the spiders and snakes - not that it really matters. You end up having to kill everything anyway because everything's on the same spawn table except the named mobs.

For Seahorse Roe, the 3 seahorses just off the point (they are underwater, but respawn quickly). Also, Snakes and Spiders drop them. I have not gotten any off of the bats, wisps or beetles. I am not saying they do not drop them, just that I have not gotten any from them.

Hijacking the hijack of the rehijacked hijacked thread, what did you get the bamboo shoots from? I had a level 60 druid there for 3 hours killing pandas (of all ages) and foraging and got 5...total. 2 forages and 3 drops. How is it that you got a lot of them? I need them in stacks (I have a lot of components for the silver and gold ribbons) and cannot get them reliably.

Where might this be found , I am currently 162 tailoring and am beginning to hate hoppers and DSP and would like to try these dyes as a change of pace.
