• Does Tailoring need a major face-lift?

Considering that ALL of the other tradeskill can be brought up to at least 188 with entirely store bought materials, is it time for Tailoring to have the same? If so, would you want new recipes added or components for existing items to be sold by merchants?

IMHO it might be interesting for there to be hide merchants with the same stocking limitations as ore merchants. Or, to allow ALL tailoring hides to be upgradable, combinable, etc into a high quality hide up to the highest level that each particular hide has.

Actually it's refreshing to have a Tradeskill that is different from the rest. I hate to say this, but I'm glad that one has to go out and farm materials. Just because all others can be store bought doesn't mean *all* skills have to be the same in that regard.

Tailoring does not need yet another facelift; it is supposed to require elements of farming/hunting by its very nature. Over the past couple of years, tailoring has become much, much easier and valueable. Also, not all tradeskills have a "storebought" path to 188; Smithing does not, Pottery does not, and the non-tradeskill tradeskill Poison Making does not.

True, you need pelts or zombie skins if you're going to do vials, but now you can do casserole dishes to 199, which is storebought and just skip the vials if you wanted to. It's also storebought to 250 now as well (if you have the right enchanters/imbuers available).

Personnaly I like tailoring the way it is. If it's too easy (or made any easier)... what's the point of having it. I don't mind having to gather my own stuff to be a tailor! Plus ... if you really want to you can buy most everything you need in the Bazaar. Might have to pay a kings ransom but it is availible.

If anything it would be nice to have some more High end items Tailors can make... Maybe different Cultural bags (like Halflings) or maybe Waterskins (that reduce the amount of water consumed), or maybe Cultural leather Totems that use both a pottery item and a leather item that can be combined by either a Potter or Tailor in their respective recepticle (Sewing kit or Potterswheel). How about a leather whip... For those DE's out there (heh heh). Anyway Tailoring is fun the way it is I think....

Not to be nitpicky, but how do you figure that Leather Padding "can be purchased from any vendor"?

fine steel-all store bought??

Please tell me where leather padding for fine steel can be bought from a vendor not reselling items sold to him by a player. All the other components can be bought, but not leather padding, which is oh so much fun to farm.

But seriously, why does everything have to be the "same?" I have been through the "fun" of Wu's, which makes my tailoring skill of 161 more impressive to me than my smithing score of 183. But, I suppose, to each his own.

Doh! forgot about that point. It's superb leather padding that is store bought not the regular stuff. But it does require tailoring to make the component so it is the tailoring component that is farmed.

I just hate the idea of wasting superb rockhopper pelts on studded masks since the resale value is much lower than the cost of the pelts in the bazaar.

I would be happy with a way to upgrade pelts.

Until 187 or so, Tailoring = Smithing. (Smithing lets you get one more point after this)
187 , you trivial Platinum ribbons which are storebought with a foraged/dropped component.

Afterwards, they both become difficult, in different ways.

In other news, Tailoring does not need another facelift.

As a struggling tailor (185 and climbing) I don't want it any easier (unless it's a short-term bug that allows me to get to 250 ). Tailoring is so meaningful because it is so difficult. Don't take that away from us!

You can easily vendor your way to 250 with Make Poison via Spirit of Sloth.

The only thing I'd like to see added to tailoring atm is an Erudite cultural set of items that provided a drop only (or near drop only) skill up path.

Smithing: all storebought to 188 minus padding
Tailoring: all storebought to 187 minus foraging

Close enough, I figure. Though at 100pp+ per attempt with no real resale value (for those who can't continue to use the ribbons), tailoring is the more expensive storebought route.

Tailoring is tuff.

However...

Dont listen to a word Druid, Ranger, or Bard tailors tell you how hard they have it. They have tracking which makes farming 100 times easier for them then the rest of us running around blind. Sure you can always get a friendly tracker to help, but they aren't always availible. Not to mention Rangers and Druids can forage to get many needed tradeskill items. The rest of us are squinting our eyes looking for groundspawns. Tailoring is extremely biased to these classes, but its in the Spirit of the Game i suppose; roleplay and all that.

If you've got the bank roll you can always just buy what you need in Bazaar.

Tailoring does need a viable store-bought-heavy route to get the skill up to atleast 188; similar to smithing where you need to farm only silks and pelts for padding.

I do think that the best tailoring recipies should require rare spawns/drops and foraged items, so that Druids and Rangers still have the advantage to keep true their natural affinity tailoring.

And make more cultural beastlord armor > <
