  • Looking for some direction

I've been working very hard at tailoring for a long time now (as well as smithing and brewing to assist my tailoring) and have found myself in a bit of a lull. Acrylia prices are SO high and would take me about 300pp per combine to work on that from this point...not to mention that rockhopper hides are usually either camped....or the main hopper locations are turned. I thought I could go with my cultural armor (hafling) but HQ Brute hides are soooo rare it seems. I spent 3 hours hunting them for 4 hides...and bazaar rarely has them. Not to mention that the misty acorn spawn is a joke.(finding a couple an hour maybe if you're lucky). I find myself in a very frustrating pass here...as it's nearly impossible to farm anything I need.....and way too expensive to buy what I need even WHEN there are some in the bazaar...which isn't often. Any advice?

Make LoY ribbons until 182, or 187.

102 plat per combine, horrid resale. Just needs plat and 1 common forage per combine.

Recipes are on the main site.

If your server has a robe market still make solstice robes.

Also you should be able to quad wyvern in Cobalt Scar and then fish the cod to make the oil and then go run down to thurgadin and buy the velium or hunt for it in CC. I have found that thurgadin is loaded with velium quite a bit and with good faction and cha you can get small pieces for nothing and the small bricks that can be cut down for 11pp each much better than acrylia costs.

I already looked into the Solstice route....that's a very expensive way to go...and unlike many...I'm not rich. I have maybe 18k to my name in the bank.

I would then work on velious tailoring but just to let you know i started the solstice route with 2k in the bank to start with but that was back when the robes sold for 2k each. good luck to you

                  re

you have several options that are not very expensive assuming you want to farm farm farm.

                  1. You can do solstice robes if there is still a market on your server. By market, I mean the price is still constantly 1500+ pp (preferably 2000+). I did robes from 162-210 with a good robe market and i made money doing them. I farmed my own silks, imbued my own emeralds, and made my own ce's. Since you are halfling this would require you to have an alt that could imbue. Otherwise the cost is going to be higher for you.

                  2. Velious stuff: arctic. At 52 wyverns should still give you exp. Head to CS, kill oodles and oodles of wyverns. You can make pretty good money from gems selling to vendors at the same time. During med time, head to the shore and fish up your cod that you will need. Head over to CC and farm velium. Slow part of this route is getting the velium, but it does not take too much longer than getting silk for robes /shrug

                  3. Velious stuff: cobalt drake. While in CS doing wyverns, try out some drakes. If you do not have COV faction, they become a little trickier but there are spots up on the clifff that you can kill them. Just root, get back max dotting distance, and fill them up with dots. Keep them snared, and you should be fine. Head over to WW, forage up drake eggs. You can try charming animals and killing velium hounds for furs to sell or save for the shawl if you are working on that if you want. Pretty easy tactic if you know anything about charming. If you do nto have cov faction, I wouldnt try it. Everything is gonna eat you up. While foraging drake eggs you will also get dragon eggs. THese always sell pretty well in the bazaar for me. Then once again, head to CC and farm velium. This is easier for cobalt drake because you only need one brick per boning.

All of these are decent routes of skilling up tailoring. I left off acrylia because you said you were frustrated with that. However these will require alot of effort for farming on your part. I started with about 20K set aside for tailoring in december. I was down to 5K at once point. Now up am up to about 60K in my tailoring fund.

Watch your market on prices of things. Do not always make masks. Make some things to sell for money to fund future skill ups. For instance, arctic wyvern. I make some wristbands and caps, then finish on masks. I set up how many attempts i want to make on wristbands and caps, then set aside the rest of my hides for mask attempts. I know these are probably things you already know

I have had LOTS of periods of frustration where I wanted to quit. Hopper caves were taken, CC was overfarmed, fishing was boring, etc. You will just either have to push through those periods, or take a break from tailoring and come back to it in a few weeks

Thanks...that sounds like some sound advice. I do have a question however. Say, I make artic wyvern stuff...(which is trivial at 250+) would it be a waste of time trying to skill up when I'm in my mid 170's??

Also, since the only thing I've ever hunted in CC were the spiders for the silk....what drops the velium I would need there? Are there any other good sources of velium around?

                      re

despite some people saying they did not get good skill ups off of arctic wyvern, i did it in between doing solstice robes and i had the same results as with robes. from 160-190, i averaged about 1 skill up per 16 combines. I do remember doing a run of 45 arctic wyvern once and getting 4 points during my mid 170's.

Velium: you can get velium from crystal caverns off the orcs. I *think* that only the miners drop it, but i usually kill everything i see /shrug You can also go to velketor's and hunt with a group for exp and get velium off of critters there. You might try vendor mining in thurgadin as well for velium pieces and bricks.

what about making 4 slot halfling bags? your success rate should be ok, it takes 1 bd, 2 woven dire wolf fur and 1 plat thread. i had people that couldnt afford to buy bags from me gather supplies in trade. i sold a few at 2500p, and recently saw someone selling them for 1k. dunno what they would sell for on your server but somewhere between these 2 figures. try trading a 4 slot bag for 5 stacks of tufts, or 4-5 bds then all you have to buy is the plat threads. when these triv or when you get daring or market is saturated, switch to haversacks.

You said you were a halfling right? Do old cultural. Hell of a skill up rate on it. You need lots of HQ Brute hides and Acorns, but its not expensive. However resale is terrible. For halflings I feel that cultural is the way to go.

I looked into the halfing cultural...both the acorns and the hq brute hides are difficult to find. No place to farm either with great success.

Thanks for all the info folks....it'll be a great help. *cheer*

I just hit 215 skill the other night and that's over twice as much pp as I've ever had on me at one time! But I still sell robes and, even at 1k, can make a slight profit or break even.

Are you on 7th? If so, please do sell the gems to the vendors! I can't tell you how much money I've made buying quest gems (flawed emeralds and flawed sea sapphires primarily) from the vendors at 52pp and selling them in the bazaar at 150-200pp. If you're not on 7th, I'd suggest trying the same!

With regards to the wyvern armor, well, its just a pain when 3 druids can overcamp a zone. :x Farm the wyverns, farm the orcs in CC, and don't forget to farm the merchants. If you haven't been doing so, you'll need to kill quite a few orcs in CC to get your faction to the point of being able to trade with merchants in Frostone, but at least it can be done now. Just about every trip to CS nets me at least a few wyvern hides from the merchants at ~13pp each (not to mention those quest gems). Likewise, every trip to CC nets at least a few pieces and small bricks of velium from the merchants there, at prices that will make you faint compared to the bazaar.

Good luck with your quest/addiction/obsession...I know I could use some! 8)
