I see the recipes so that's not a problem.

I can't seem to find any information on them - like stats.

half a dozen races seem to be able to make half a dozen different robes and they aren't NO DROP or race-restricted in the final version - so what are they and their differences?

I admit I don't know anything about the stats, but that's not really a surprise, yet. Its probably information that trickled in during the beta of the expansion, and thus can go up on the website now. As it stands, nothing will go up until the stats have been confirmed and posted here on the website.
There are a couple of things that bug me, however.
The first is the spell research issue. As an Erudite paladin, I'm a bit put out that I'll have to be searching for researchers if I want to make anything - although truth be told, that's something of a minor issue.
What REALLY bugs me is the foraged components. The dyes use foraged components (from Erud's Crossing and Stonebrunt, iirc), and there isn't a single Erudite class that can forage (even worse, the zones are usually empty - although the latter will certainly become quite a bit more popular now, the Erud's Crossing component will probably remain fairly rare).

I'm rather excited to see what comes of this. Not sure if my 164 skill will be enough, but perhaps.

On the other hand, we have have sooo many robes out there already. Most of them sit in bazaar for sale. I had a blackened crystalline robe for sale at 200pp and it took weeks to sell (and it's a nice robe).

There are only so many casters around, and now dozens of new "cultural robes" are going to be flooding into the game. I hope something good comes of it, otherwise it will be yet another item in an already saturated market.

The PoP robes are quite nice, but I don't expect these to be quite the same caliber.

Before anyone else whimpers about this, I'd like to point out a line from the LoY robe recipes pages:

Dye components are foraged, as well as mob drops in the same zone in which the items can be foraged.

Yes, this means that a dark elf can do the spell research combines for an erudite, etc., etc. And since spell research IS a skill which you can "buy" up at your trainer, it truly shouldn't be an issue to find some skilled spell researcher on your server.

The ONLY part that is race-restricted is the final robe combine.

So breathe, folks, please. Take a few steps back and realize that things like infusing the ribbon can help ANY enterprising tailor skill up, as they can likely find a market for any ribbons that they make, with a bit of work.

Woot! you're right.. here's yet another possible way to skill up that doesn't take mana vials.

Am a bit confused on this. Only the final combine is race restricted, any tailor can do the pre-combines up to there (assuming they have the drops)?

That appears to be correct, as it is not done in a 'cultural kit' - the reason they are race restricted is due to the npc only giving the pattern to the right race. And they see through illusion.

Well, the stats are kind of... a let down. Considering that melee get cultural that are roughly equivalent to SS gear (minus the clicky), why bother?

I've done swatch cobines for all races (not all 36 swatches, but at least 1 from each racial group), without any problems... so the researh part is open to anyone. Something to remember, before you start cursing at your putor.. there is a word of neglect, and a rune of neglect.. the run does not work to make a swatch... /comfort computor.
