  • Tailoring path

Ok this is my last shot before i give up on tailoring. I've read loads and loads of threads. The general concenous is that unless you are in the shissar family DON stuff, you may as well give up on tailoring.

Is there anyone out there (halfling druid I am) who has got a semi reasonable post 250 skill up path.

Let me define semi reasonable :- prepared to spend 1 hr on average a day farming items (will push to 2 if bored). Willing to go a dear PP (not exorbitantly so) route to cut down on farming.

I have yet to find one, but will let you know if I do. As it stands, I'm farming Holgresh furs in WL - nice camp to AOE then afk for 10+ minutes waiting on repops. Drop rate is poo.

Or, if I can devote periods of time without the AFKs, Othmirs in CS (normally camped). Again, drop rate is poo.

If I'm *very* lucky, I can get enough furs for 10 combines for an hour of my time.

Lastly, I pay (up to 200 per) for either of these furs because I hate farming them.

    It's far from reasonable IMHO.

EDIT* I also play with the OLD cultural combines (HLF also), but getting the HQ Brute Hides are a pain. Although, the BP does give a nice amount of Tribute for your time. But 3 BDs a pop make this combine a little bit short of cheap.

If your race can use Nightmare Silk Swatches for Master armor it's at least a feasible path post 250. Of course depending on your gear/class this might not be possible to do by yourself.

Halflings can't. I'm in the same boat. I am honestly convinced that Sony made an oopsy in the loot codes for Raptors in CT. They've completely stopped dropping the Great Reptile Hide. I think I must have gotten the 4 in the first clearing, and they respawned without any.

I am currently at 295 tailoring.

I have been offering 200pp per shissar scale, 100pp per holgresh fur. In the last week, my buyer has purchased 24 shissar scales and 18 holgresh fur.

I also spent 3-4 hours farming WL for 26 additional holgresh fur and 4-5 hours in Ssraa temple for 18 shissar scales and a couple hours in WW for enough supplies to make 1 each of velium hound cloak, velium mastodon cloak, and ice silk cap combines.

After losing 6 shissar scales to subcombines, I made a total of 26 non-trivial tailoring combines at a cost of just under 10kpp and 10 hours of farming and didn't get a single skillup.

Well this is exactly what I want to avoid. Not a flame, but how SOE can expect players to spend the PP + time involved to skillup in tailoring is quite extrodinary. Just take the above case 10hrs + 10KPP for zip and I have to go 50 skill ups ... do the math . I really enjoyed getting to 250 with the ole solistce robe etc and it was a great day ... Ding 250 new title. It was doable ... now . Btw how did ya get to 295 !!

At the time trivials changed on solstice robes and velious leathers, I was at 287.

I had over 100 gem-studded chains in the bank (luckily bought from vendors at 24pp each, rather than made myself at 250pp each). I had an alt imbuing emeralds and turning them into dust/sacred silks and was a day or two away from using them up. I also had over 100 each of arctic wyvern hides and cod oil, plus 100 panther skins and about 60 yew leaf tannin. I needed to find several hours to farm up velium to go with those.

I expected to be at 300 in 3-4 days at that time. Instead I used up all my saved up Shissar Scales to do brambleborn sleeves (wood elf DoN cultural) to 290. Since then, I have been mostly buying and occassionaly farming supplies for brambleborn tunics and leggings, velious furs and a small number of pop silk/leather combines. I have been averaging less than 1 skill up per week.

Note: DoN sleeves use only 1 farmed component per combine and trivial at 290, so that is not too unreasonable depending on which components your race needs.

If you can solo the snakes at all you should be doing much better than 18 scales in 4-5 hours. Make sure you're clearing all the temple patroller spawns, because those can only repop as temple patrollers, as opposed to the the temple guard spawns that can repop as a caster shissar (undead so no scales). Shissar have a surprisingly low amount of HP but their AC is high even by today's standards, so try to get a caster friend or at least a good DS going. Also anything in Ssra 1st floor can be pulled single without any special tools (though invis helps with positioning), even when you've stuff like 2 patrollers sitting next to each other on a door.

There's 5 patrollers (actually 1 temple guard but never saw that repop as anything other than temple guard) at the entrance, 4 from the middle door, 8 on the way downstairs, 5 patrollers plus 4 temple guard on the room going down, so if you can clear all that it gives you 22 guaranteed live snakes and 4 maybes.

                  /re-rail on

This information is nice and all, but it has little to do with the lack of reasonable skill paths, post 250, for halflings. The hides necessary for the Master armors just do not drop, that I have seen. Many posts here support the lack of drop rate of the Reptile Hides.

I will continue to grind the greens and pay stupid amounts of money for the clicks.

If anything, I hope these changes are to seperate the heavy tradeskillers (those that skillup because they enjoy it) from the AG crowd (those that took up Tradeskills just for the Earring), and that there is a reward in the plans. I honestly can not see many people (given the path restrictions) pushing to 2100 for an item.

I cleared shissar with my druid/ranger combo for like 4 hours last weekened and netted almost 40 scales. I cleared the first floor a couple times, then moved up to the 2nd and cleared half of that floor a few times. Also managed to half finish the emperor key quest for my druid!

Honestly, if you are doing holgresh you would be alot better off killing the otters in CS. Drop rate still sucks ... average 2-3 furs per clearing if I am lucky but at least you know you are doing a good deed for Norrath as you farm. Clear Mana is cheaper than Distilled Mana ... Silver Thread cheaper than Gold Thread.

If your 252 and 262 cultural robes (if you can do them, guess not for a halfling) have a reasonable research item they are plausible too.

Velium Hounds, Ice Burrower Silks, Velium Mastadons are also and expensive option, but with an entire zone nearly at your disposal if you think those things are worth the work works.

Other than that, we are just plain screwed for tailoring in general =(

After 262, it takes 3 of the otter skins. I can use two holgresh furs to 268. It may be more expensive, but it's 50% less furs per combine. Considering the *lack of* drop rate of the furs, using 2 is better than 3.

Ugh, just realized that both triv at 268, then it's 4 otter furs per.

I may have to re-think my prior plan.

I don't know if this is true or not because I've never tried it, but from the information on this site, anyone can make a symbol aug for any diety as long as you have the appropriate level off cultural book (Journeyman, Expert, etc.) Well, if you can complete your Master's Symbol Quest, you could do symbol combines until 300. Still a pain, but for each symbol (doesn't matter the symbol even though they trivial different depending on the piece of equipment its for) you need 1 crushed diamond dust and 2 nightmare arachnid silk as the farmed components. You can probably sell the symbols in the bazaar for the money you spent or time that gave up to farm the components for them. Maybe more. Especially if you focus on needed symbols. Like regen symbols for warrior type dietys and mana regen symbols for caster type dietys.

That'd be great, if the stuff for symbols wasn't equally painful. I've farmed velks and sentients for several hours each and only seen one crushed diamond dust. I did manage to get a few in the bazaar at 1k each though, which is a bit painful for a skill up path.
