  • You CAN get to 300 Tailoring post nerf, and relatively cheaply...

Even tho the Solstice Robe, Tigeraptor, Wyvern, Black/Haze Panther and Cobalt Drake recipes were nerfed to 252 trivial in march, I found it relatively easy to reach 300 on the velious leathers they DIDN'T nerf.

One word: Othmir! These cute furballs are your salvation. You can get to 295 doing only othmir combines, at a vendor cost of about 14p each (emerald+poision vial to make the Vial of Clear Mana, Silver Thread, pattern). It's true that as your skill increases you'll need more furs per combine, but they drop relatively fast - I averaged 60 furs per 3 hour session of clearing all 3 camps. (Side bonus is they drop gems like crazy, you can acutally MAKE money skilling up Tailoring...insane I know).

    Breakdown of furs needed:

Othmir Fur Cap (2) trivials at 262

Othmir Fur Moccasins (3) trivials at 268

Othmir Fur Cloak (4) trivials at 295

Holgresh are also worth farming, altho each combine is more expensive, about 230p. (2 Sapphires+1 poision vial for the Vial of Distilled Mana, gold chain, pattern).

The best method I found was to set up shop in the Holgresh Lair in WL, clear the room, then simply wait for the repops 15 mins later. If you are a pet class this works especially well, as the Holgresh are pretty weak and waste alot of time casting spells - your pet will mow them down with ease, all you have to do is loot!

    Breakdown of furs needed:

Holgresh Fur Cap (2) trivals at 268

Holgresh Fur Moccasins (3) trivials at 282

Holgresh Fur Cloak (4) trivials at 322

If you are able to 2-box, you can actually farm both zones at the same time. I set up my SK in the holgresh lair with a buffed up pet, and used my dru to slay the othmir in CS. I simply needed to remember to check the SK account every 5-6 mins to prevent rottage...and rebuff the pet once in awhile =p.

Once I maxed out Othmir (295) I moved my dru to Western Wastes. Velium Hounds, Mastodons, and Ice Burrowers are all viable options for reaching 300 - the downside is each combine will cost you 750-800p (4 rubies+1 poison vial for the Vial of Purified Mana, 1 platinum thread, pattern). The furs here are also fairly slow dropping as sometimes the mobs are scarce - 2 hours of killing netted me roughly 12 furs and 4 ice burrower silks.

    Breakdown of furs/silks needed:

Velium Hound Fur Cloak (4) trivials at 322

Velium Mastodon Fur Cloak (4) trivials at 322

Ice Burrower Silk Cap (2 silks) trivials at 308

I had virtually ZERO competition for spawns during the 3 weeks I farmed. During the entire time in WL only one person wandered into the holgresh lair, killed 1 mob, then wandered out. The othmir were regularly farmed by 2-3 other tailors, but we were able to share or were in different time zones etc.

I know this has all been basic info for any seasoned tailor, just thought I'd point out Velious Leathers ARE still an option

I like my othmir faction. Sigh.

I'm at 270 tailoring... looks like 4 othmir fur per combine.

can you elaborate, please, on what these three camps are? when i looked into othmir fur armor ages ago (around the time ldon came out, maybe?), i was led to understand they dropped only from the pups. to a high-50s/low-60s cleric, the drop/kill rate was not viable at the time. i've been eyeing these recipes, again, though (mostly from the lack of anything else to do).

it would also be nice to know what the trivials of these are on test, and if they'll change next patch.

      thanks,

In Cobalt Scar along the shore there are 3 othmir camps. The camp closest to the Skyshrine ramp is known as SS camp, the center camp is known as Chief (because the top othmir is there, Chief Kalan), and the camp closest to Sirens Grotto is known as SG camp. SS and SG camps have about 7-8 othmir each, with Chief camp having about 15. Furs can drop off any of them. It's quite easy to clear all 3 camps with a 70 character before they start repopping, as all the othmir are green except Chief Kalan.

Generally speaking the othmir don't assist eachother unless you get too close during the pull, with the exception being Chief Kalan who will assist. When the Chief is up, pull him first to avoid this.

It's also worth mentioning that the othmir will run at full speed when below 20% hp, so some form of snare/root/stun is a must...chasing them into the water is a pain in the neck =p

I wanted to keep my Othmir faction, they're so cute.

            Othmir,etc

Any othmir can drop furs (except maybe the shop keeper).
The othmirs do assist each other and I usually pull one whole camp at a time.
Kill them and move to next camp.

I have 3 bags full and am going to do combines tonight.
I have 1 bag of holgresh and will use that afterwards.

The ice burrower and velium hounds are pain in the but even with a tracker.
The hounds have been getting stuck in the water since the expansion came out and have not been fixed. There are two packs of 5-6 that get stuck in the western water, use track to find.

I use a 70 shaman to farm the holgresh and a 70 rogue to farm the othmir.

Yea, if you're going to do Othimir, tonight would be the night. I think when the solstice robes and arctic wyvern trivials were changed, they were changed because they are the well known skill up route. The Dev's have talked about going through all of the tradeskill recipies and making them more sensible. It wouldn't suprise me if the othimir fur trivials were brought down a bit too in a coming patch (maybe tuesday's).

So, anyone know if the trivial of these are going to be lowered in an upcoming patch? I do remember them saying that trivials will not be messed with this next patch. So we have some time, just if we wait till after this next patch we will have to do 20% more combines to go from 250 to 300.

As a general FYI, clearing the camps before respawns I got an average of about 15-16 an hour. They are on 20 minute spawns, so that's an average of clearing them 3 times an hour, with the droprate being about 5-6 a clearing. The worst I ever got was 0 in an entire clearing, though my friend got 0 in 3 straight clearings, while my best was 12 in a clearing. Also if you kill the Chief, you automatically bottom out your othmir faction in one kill. Good luck to all who care spend time at this most boring camp.

Western Wastes has always had trouble with mobs falling under the world. Back when I had a character with a green name, ever single shift I would spend time in Western Wastes, Warsliks Woods, Field of Bone and Dreadlands to take care of the UTWs. My record was all 17 spawned velium hounds under the world with about 20 other mobs piled up down there. Underwater, southwards of the fallen dragons/mercenaries is one of the big pile up places.

I'm a cleric, I don't have any troubles clearing the 3 otters camp, I usually tank 5 - 6 at time (thanks DoN proc).
Holgreshs won't be a difficulty, even tho my defensive proc won't be very efficient as they are casters.

So, does that mean my 65 warrior can handle these without a problem? Or do I need to bot the cleric in the background to heal her? I'm guessing that the 55 druid would have problems.

The 55 druid should be able to solo the animal mobs there.

Charming with the 53 charm is an option as is good old kiting or root/rotting.

I recommend having the animal only magic debuf memed and stick to the animals.

I've been using this skill path for a while now, at 270 and makin othimir cloaks. Little buggers hate me but its a very easy camp. I just target one, snare it, wait till it gets to mu and tank it while nuking. If youre on a drogmor you dont get pushed and its easy to channel. Be sure to kill/avoid the chief since he is the only one who will assist at high levels.

A hint on the chief, if you nuke him down to where he runs, just let him run, nothing will assist him and he just stays over at the other side of the zone. He hardly has any regen so he stays away for hours and hours (or until you zone) .

drop rate is a little slow now that i need four... but it doesnt cost me a cent... you get a decent amount of play with all the gems/armor... just cant sell to the othmir merchant (unless you park an alt there)

my halfling tailoring alt will enjoy the caps as well i think )
