i got my first flawless tae ew hide today also. usually i just train into the NW temple past room of raptors and FD in the hallway to start clearing all the brown lizards at the temple in search for the skins. however today, in my haste i dind't invis and got agro by the mobs just inside the first set of doors on the way back to the temple.

u zone in, u go thru the first set of doors into the courtyard, you go straight ahead and there is a set of double doors. this is the way to the brown temple. now there are 2 mobs inside the door plus 1 raomer. as i ran by i agro'd the 3 green mobs on top of this area (up the small ladder in courtyard by the water tunnels) and the 3 mobs just inside the double doors all at once. so i sat there grumbling to myself and killed the mobs. all were green lizards and one dropped the hide.

sooooooo......... this is the first hide i've seen in all my days here and it came off a green lizard. btw, none of the browns in the back temple have dropd a hide for me yet in my days.

*sigh* guess that means "no GM event" ... rats

I rarely get dragged into "this is too rare" discussions. It would be nice if everything dropped twice as often. That simple. If everything dropped twice as often we'd all be happier.

Now if only "twice as often" could be defined.... Should mobs have twice as many "drop slots" and check normally for each slot? Or should the "percent chance to drop X" be doubled. What if that meant "trash loots" higher in the table edged out more "valuable" more rare drops.

      Chance to drop X 40%
      Chance to drop Y 20%
      Chance to drop Z 10%

      Effective drop rate:
      40% X
      12% Y
      4.8% Z

      "Double" effective drop rate:
      80% X
      8% Y
      1.2% Z

Ouch. For these reasons I don't quibble on drop rates often. I just don't agree that the method for determining "drop rate" (nor even "actually drops" for the above listed reasons) is reflective of reality.

      Old joke....

Error report: "Auto-pilot in 'hold mode' produces 300 feet per minute loss of altitude."
Maintainence report: "Error un-reproducible on the ground."

Sometimes testing methods need to be adjusted to actually simulate reality outside "lab conditions" to do "due diligence."

Plus I think such a "test" would be a hoot for everyone involved. (not to mention be GREAT PR for SOE/tradeskills/Devs, in an era when bug-testing has had, shall we say, less then steller reviews from the playerbase)

Not hacking on you personally Ngreth. Certainly it's a good "benchmark / validation" test. Just think you could go the extra "GM event" and rack up all kinds of brownie points with the bosses and the players in one fell swoop.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

imo (and some might hate me for saying it) flawless tae ew hides are just as rare as they should be.
if they were not this stinking rare i would never be able to sell a tae ew hide bag for 50k

dont fix it if it aint broken ..

Next time I go for an extended CT farm, will post my drop rates. Hides are very rare yes. But now compare the quality of tae Ew bags to any other bag and tell me it should be that much more common ;-)

50k a bag you say... so my twink has 300k worth of bag space, most likely worth more than the rest of his equipment :-p

Strangely enough I have been farming these the past week to make another bag.

I wrote up a guide on farming them a long time ago, and we were discussing the drop rates. One person said it was around 1 / 100 brown lizards you should get a hide.

I said if I ever went back to farm more I would keep an accurate log of my kills and I have been doing precisely that.

So far I'm up to 47 dead brown lizards and no hide. I'm not saying this is any evidence of drop rates, nor complaining. I'm just saying, so far that's how many I've killed.

I'll come back and update on the progress once I've gotten my 2 hides.

It is interesting to hear of the report of a hide coming off of a green lizard though.

Edit: Ok, I finally got both hides to make a bag last week. I got the first hide after 67 kills. Which I thought was pretty good. But it took 210 additional kills to finally get a second, so about 277 kills total. I could see how that would fall into a 1/100 drop rate.

This took place over several days, I didn't do this all in one sitting. All kills were thul tae ew's (browns).

I have been farming them on Saryrn with a couple guildmates.

                Here is what happened.

We farmed them 24/7 nearly, for a week. We were doing as Ngreth said, getting a fair rate of return - around 6 to 9 per 24 hour period farming them at the top of the Pyramid in 4C.

Suddenly, Yesterday, they stopped dropping altogether. In 36 hours now, not one pelt has dropped during constant farming, at the top of that Pyramid, from all browns. Also suddenly, many of the Browns have empty corpses. As a rule, there is usually something on a corpse. Once in a blue moon you'll get an empty but now they're not only not dropping the pelts but this is coincident with empty corpses.

                Something seems changed.

My worst run is a few dozen hours with no hides, while my best is 3.5 hours with 7 hides. It's just a matter of luck. Just so happy they stack now. Any chance of stacking pristine scales or cazicite?

I've been in CT PL'ing a friend and collecting blood meat staves and what not, I think I have 2 or 3 in about 45 hours of farming.
