Shawl Quest Tailoring gains past 158...

Hola, I am currently at 158 and am wondering the cheapest approach to 225 or so tailoring, I do not want to fail any combines in the prayer shawl quest, I have heard horror stories of fails which result in days/weeks of gathering the no-drop materials again and again...

1. Do you think 225 is safe for doing all tailoring shawl combines?
2. What is cheapest/fastest route from 158 (after Wu's tunics) to 225 or so?

Thanks a ton, I've been doing tradeskills like mad the last few weeks, its interesting and a nice change of pace from kill, kill, kill hehe

If youre high level, well geared, getting the parts isnt hard.

Also, it helps to know what race, class and level you are, so we can suggest alternatives.

For example, I am a High Elf Wizard, currently level 65.

-High elves have the option of doing LoY ribbons and robes (5 races can make these robes: high elves, gnomes, dark elves, iksar, and erudites.)

class advantage
-Int casters have an advantage in that we can make our own swatches (made using the Spell Research skill) - other classes in any of the 5 races named above can still make the robes but will have to buy their swatches off Int casters or level up an alt.
-Wizards can farm tradeskill components in mass quantities with AoE spells and easy travelling

level advantage
-it's a fact of EQ life, the higher level you are, the easier it is to farm components, or farm platinum to buy components in the bazaar

Well, anyone can make the ribbons I linked above, and as a WE druid you can forage, so you might consider making the ribbons up to skill level 187 when they trivial.

I did my shawl combines and did not fail any at 178 skill, using a Geerlok, for a modified skill of about 187. Frankly, unless you really LOVE tailoring and want to do it because you like it, getting to 158 or so and then trying is probably more time/cost effective than working on tailoring further. Farming the ingredients for the shawl, if the shawl is all you plan to do with your tailoring, will take less time and aggravation than farming or foraging ingredients and platinum to work tailoring up.

I'm currently at 190 in tailoring (did ribbons and studded Acrylia to get to this point, followed by a few stacks of Solstice robes till I ran out of gemmed chains and platinum). I haven't found any cost or time effective way to continue, so now I am working on bringing up a Tunarean cleric to imbue emeralds for me so I can continue with the robes. I prefer farming silks to farming hides (sometimes I go do hynids but the mane drops are very rare).

Out of curiosity, what makes you think that? And if there was a big secret way that we knew to skill up, what makes you think we'd tell you if we haven't told anybody else up to this point?

Really, there is tons and tons of good information out there, go read up on some of it

Ahem, there is NO 'secret" fast, cheap and easy way to level tailoring.

As a Halfling Druid, I found a few more points by foraging Dragon Eggs and making the treated silks for the Blessed Fishing Rod. This was cheap, but not fast. Fast would involve a ton of cash and a guild farming for you. Get your guild to farm Acrylia or Velium and the appropriate hides. Offer to be the guild tailor and do all combines for free. Get them to forage, hunt, buy all the materials for you and hope you are the only one in your guild working on tailoring, or be the best liked member of your guild.
