Trivial Difference on Barbed Stock Whip

In all the recipe posts I've seen, the trivial for this recipe is listed at 116 with the exception of 1 which is listed as unknown. I made 28 attempts on these today and when I finally "learned" the recipe, the trivial in the tradeskill UI in game shows as 231. This is a major difference. At this point I have no idea if they (SoE) uped the trivial on these combines, if the recipe is bugged and reporting an incorrect trivial or what the deal is. Just wanted to let you all know before you chose to use this route to gain skill-ups as I did, only to be very dissapointed in my success rate. However...I did mange to squeeze out 9 skill-ups in those 28 attempts, so definately not a loss for me. thought that was a pretty good ratio on skill-ups.

Given the current recipe shows you can use any of 3 types of pelts [MQ Cat Pelt, MQ Wolf Pelt, or HQ Ra'tuk Brute Hide] which were you using to see the trivial of 231? Or were you doing a mixture of them?

I used the MQ Cat as well as the MQ Wolf, I had 1 success from each, yet the UI showed no variation in the recipe for the different pelts, that's the other odd thing about it.


Took another look at the recipe in the UI, the recipe for both the MQ wolf and the MQ Cat are listed at 231. Sadly, I haven't been able to try the recipe with the HQ hides as I don't have any so I can't confirm or deny the same trivial on those.

OK... so the UI showed you TWO different recipes to produce the same 'Barbed Stock Whip', one with four MQ Wolf Pelts, and one with four MQ Cat Pelts... and both showed a trivial of 231?

That is a radical difference from the 116 trivial that was previously reported... but that doesn't mean what you say is wrong.

OK Another Question, did you try "mixing" the pelts... say 1 MQ Cat Pelt and 3 MQ Wolf Pelts (plus other components) to make the item? If you tried... did you get a "Cannot combine in this container" response?

I will update the recipe, leaving the old trivial in the note.

Kraz, it only requires 1 pelt....4 kiolas.

And I just checked the MQ Cat Pelt recipe...and it is indeed showing as 231 trivial. I double checked it.

yeah, did both the MQ wolf and the MQ cat, but recipe only requires 1 pelt, but sadly, both recipes are 231 trivial. Does seem a pretty radical difference, not sure why the difference is so great on those, I could see a few points, but an excess of 100?

I just tested this recipe using a High Quality Ra'Tuk Brute Hide in a deluxe tailoring kit. I successfully made a whip at a skill of 201 and it told me I could not advance my skill further. In addition, the Tradeskill Window UI shows the trivial at 116. I suspect a bug in the UI if the other two recipes are showing a higher trivial level. I tried a second time with a MQ wolf pelt, but failed.

I actually tried this out last night with MQ cat pelts. My skill is 197 without the geerlok. I didn't actually get a skill up (attempted 7 combines so thats not surprising) but I didn't get a trivial message either. It showed as dark blue for me in the UI.

It's not a bug in the UI...it actually has a trivial of 231. I've gotten 2 skillups since yesterday (221 and 222). It might be mis-labeled in the recipe database, though. As in, it should have been 116 for all 3, but it isn't. But the UI is correct.

if so it is still a pain to get the Whip Cracker. BUT if that piece is not needed then this is a dream come true.

Thats what I used. And its really no more of a pain to get the whip cracker than say, othmir fur. I like this recipie. Too bad I forgot clear the price on the hynid manes and my dang trader sold them all last night :P

On average, I've been getting 1-2 manes per clearing of the zone...I would estimate 13-15 hynids maybe. Maybe I've been lucky. Manes are 500-1000p each in the bazaar. Not sure why, unless the people who have them knew the trivial was wrong beforehand. There are generally 20ish for sale.

I've also found about 6 manes on vendors in the past 2 days and about 10 hynid hair strands (4 of them + muramite needle = hynid hair thread, needle returned regardless of success, trivial 268.) Have yet to see a strand drop myself, though.

I just tried this recipe, and no matter what Loom I try, it says cannot combine these items in this container type... Bugged? wrong container? what am I doing wrong?

when I bring up the experement window on the tannan loom, it says it's a sewing kit, not a loom. could there be something bugged?

I did mine in a deluxe sewing kit, never tried the loom. Sorry!
