I have been doing all of the above and am happy to say I now have a bunch of stacks of components for the cultural (DE) robes. I have not paid over 20pp for anything and usually pay much less.
I had not thought to look for the ribbons though. Thanks for that tip - I'll check today.

Its exactly this kind of encouragement that has driven the prices of the words I need up through the roof in the bazaar. Ok, well, I know, we all need to share good ideas. Still, its painfull watching the prices climb as people figure out us poor tailorers are desperate for non-farmable items.
I could shoot myself for not thinking of this months ago and hoarding the stacks for when I needed them.Yitara

Quick question on the robes... I know the ribbons can be done by anyone (not race/class restricted at all)... and I know that the robes are race restricted on combines, just wondering if any class of an appropriate race can get the patterns to make the robes??
Not sure if this has been answered before, and my search on it has not been helpful (can't seem to nail down the appropriate search terms to find my answer).
Any help would be appreciated... even if it's only a /point and laugh and a link to the answer

Anyone of the appropriate race should be able to obtain their race's pattern. There is probably a slight possibility of faction issues in getting the pattern, but I'd assume that these guys are on beta neutral faction or something, in which case there shouldn't be any problems unless there's a faction bug.

Any class can get the pattern, but only members of the appropriate race. And from what I understand, the pattern guy can see through illusions like racial forges can (which makes no sense at all, but sure.. and I'm okay with it for balance purposes, just seems weird in an in game context).

I skilled up to 225 on ribbons and robes alone. Vendor mining and bazaar farming is the way to go. A week of mining and farming can get me up to 40-60 combines. The robes sell is bazaar for a minor profit, but also are a good way to pad your tribute point reserve. The only thing that is a pain in the ass is farming the dyes for the ribbons if you can't find them for a good price in the bazaar. But on average the robes give me a skill up rate around 1 skill up in 15 combines.

Well, it is possible to get a significant amount of components vender and bazaar camping. I now have 124 runes of concussion in the bankI am just focusing that component though, doing solstice robes from 185 to about 210 (201 currently), then robes to 232, then reinforced rockhopper/othmir fur caps to the finish!
I have used 18 chains going from 185 to 201 and have 2 left. I hope another batch of chains (from my guildie JM3 chanter) will take me to 210. The cost of the chains isn't my biggest peeve about the robes though its the 6 silks, 2 CES, and 1 imbued emerald (not counting subcombine failures) per attempt :P I will be sooo glad to not have to farm any more silks!

Um, yeah, runes of concussion are common and its taken me over 3 weeks to get 124. I totally don't have the patience to wait until I have enough of all of those components. And yes, I can forage, but I can't forage hours at a time in WC or JP as this is my main, not a bot, and I am in those zones like, never.
So, I am making some robes and the plat is well spent as far as I'm concerned. I have even bought some silk swatches...
