From what I have experienced, in most tradeskills, 20-23 combines per skill up is normal. I am under 20 by a bit, so maybe I am blessed just a tad, but not too much.

Also, I have found, the RNG always catches up with you. You can have incredible luck for a while, but you will always have very poor luck for a while after to make up for it.

When I was doing robes hot and heavy, I would work on big sets of combines (would usually take me a Friday night, all day Sat & Sun) and then take a break from it until the next weekend.

And for SoV tailoring, sometimes I'd make the tempers, sometimes I'd buy them. Make CE's just got so old. =P

well, I still think the best route is soltice. I been working them and even though its a pain to get someone to imbue the emeralds, it still seems to be the fastest route.

I'm usually doing about 40 combines a night getting 1-2 skillups. Guess ill slowly make my way up. Thank god i'm failing them all.

My offtime i farm black panthers to make bracers which seems to be working decent for me. Slower route but much less mindnumbing...187 and counting...

                Ouch

170 to 210 on Robes. I would strongly advise that you not pursue that route; try loy ribbons and robes (certainly ribbons). But, to get to 210 from 170, you are likely going to need at least enough material to do 800 combines, which equates to 4800 spider silks; 4800 celestial essence; 2400 imbued emeralds; 2400 jars of acid; and, 800 robe patterns. Now, that is if you believe the other posters who seem to believe you get 1 skill up/20 combines off of these Ceremonial Solstice Robes, which I assure you has not been my experience or the experience of many others.

For skill ups/combine, I think they stink; but, I think I have made that perfectly clear.

Now, I think the above figures are accurate if you simply go off of 20 combines/skill up. However, there is no way to tell how successful you are going to be. Additionally, I may point out that you may be far more successful on these up until the 190 skill level because several people have attested to the fact that the 190 - 210 range is horrific. I certainly can substantiate that by having almost lost my mind from completing my last 130+ combines with 2 skill ups (points 192 & 193).

                Best of Luck

I really wish you had NOT posted those numbers... it almost makes it seem an insurmountable task now.

This is the route that I have chosen for a couple of reasons. 1.) on Bristlebane, cod oil has become all but impossible to find. I can find plenty of Arctic Wyvern Hides, but I am not seeing much cod oil on the server. I do not mind farming, but I despise fishing. 2.) On the outset, it seems pretty cheap to skill up this way (relatively speaking of course) I made a run of 60 robes this morning before work. I had assembled eveything yesterday. Granted, I only got 2 skill ups, but I did walk away with four robes. By the time I had left the house, I checked my mule, and all four of the robes were sold, and my costs were pretty much taken care of.

I do not think I will do the robes much past 220 however. I think I will go the Halfling Cultural route at that time. I am amassing as many HQ brute hides as I can lay my hands on, and have a mule that is nearly full of woven dire wolf furs...The day I start making those will be a happy day for my guild, as the Leatherfoot Haversacks will be handed out like candy to make room for more....

Do robes. I have seen absolutely 0 correlation between skill ups and trivial gap. Everyone who is saying that one combine gives better skill ups than another has not provided a shred of proof besides personal experience. It all comes down to the RNG.

I went this route over the weekend. First off, it is expensive. As a halfling druid, I had to have my emeralds imbued by someone else. I got 1000 of them, and I have gone through about half so far.

I have had to stop, because I have bought every silk I could lay my hands on in the bazaar. I do not mind farming for tailoring components, but hunting silks drives me batty.

Right now, I have passed the 220 mark, and I am starting to see more succeses than I care for. In any other skill, I would be glad to get a success... not when making robes however. I am a GM Jewelcrafter, so I make my own chains, but those chains are the very problem. On a failure the chain is returned, but on success the chain is used. These robes do sell in the bazaar, but frankly, I would rather keep my chain, take the failure and hope for a skillup.

I got the bright idea that I would do tailoring with Flawless rockhopper hides next. All I can say to that is... Yeah, right. Flawless rockhopper hides are ****ned rare in my opinion. There is one fellow on Bristlebane with over 450 of them on his mule in the bazaar for over 400p EACH. I could afford to buy the lot of them, but frankly that seems like gouging to me. Nonetheless, it is a free market economy, so he can charge as he wishes.

All this leads me back to one conclusion... Solstice robes are unfortunately probably the easist way to 250 for tailoring...If I was not so darned obsessed with GMing every skill, I think I would ignore this one entirely.

Anyone got any silks or velium? /e's hands spasmodically go through the motions of making celestial essence again and again....

I did the robes from 190ish to 208. By 208 I was successful six combines in a row and I have not even TRIED one since. I was a bit irritated. Anyway...

Yes, I made my own temper. I would make them en mass while imbuing emeralds in PoK, fishing for cod in CS, farming velium in CC or foraging tufts of fur in Thurg. I would make 600 at a time.

I have never been in so much pain ( wrist ) as I was making those tempers at the same time as the robes. PAIN.

I've never done a solstice robe, but then again, I'm a wiz... from 158 to 182, I've done loads of arctic wyvern and studded acrylia, but I kinda lost interest in the velium route. From 160 to 161 I did with a single succesfull combine of... The Shawl... ^_^

Acrylia is the way to go for a wiz, stampede-kiting hoppers and pbae'ing grimlings in TM... (hotkey your flux staff though )

... and I blame it all on SOE...

I'd recommend ribbons till 187, because robes after that are going to drive you nuts. I went from 187 - 222 on robes and I never want to touch this tradeskill again :P Of course, I said that after I finished tailoring for the shawl too ><
