  • solstice robe, ok to start early?

I dont know what most start on this, but I was wondering since its very easy / cheap to get the "loss on fail" components , is it work it to start on these at a skill of 150? I'm hoping to fail my way up near 200 or so.

Every other route i've looked at seems to be much harder to farm / purchase, as this route seems to be near 50p per combine.

    Suggestions?

LoY ribbons are expensive but in the long run cheaper since the skill up rate is much much better.

      well.

on failures of Solstice robes, the chains get returned which is the expensive part. So, on fails the cost per combine is like 50p or less..and only parts needed to farm or buy from players is spider silks.

LoY ribbons have higher skillup rate by far though. 4 combines over one, but one has around a 60% skillup rate for most people

I just made a run of Solstice robes last night. In 93 combines, I went from 174 to 181, a skillup every 13.2 combines. I was mildly suprised by the skillup rate since I've been hearing that the robes are not so great for skillups. I also made only 1 robe which is a good thing.

The cost per combine for a Solstice robe is approximately 3 emeralds + 3 CEs or 43pp (assuming you farm your own silks). A success though costs 350pp for the chain. Not a cheap method of skilling up imo but far cheaper than arctic wyvern masks which are over 100pp per combine.

The cheapest route past 188 would be to go Tigeraptor or Cobalt Drake route. If you get the hides, drake eggs and small bricks of velium yourself, it's only 27pp per combine. Getting the hides though may be tough since they are not as abundant as wyvern hides. If you can get HQ and superb rockhopper hides, I'd farm them if you are concerned about plat.

I tried 120 solstice robes when I was around 170. I got about 7 skill ups from all those, so thats 17 combines per skill up. Not too bad.
However, they are a massive pain. All of the celestial essences will break your wrist, and there are quite a number of other subcombines.
Add to that trying to find a druid to enchant all those emeralds bleh!!

However, they are easy compared to farming velious tailoring stuff.

Since then I have done lots of LoY robes... but its tough to find the research items I need, so it hasnt been very quick, but the skill up rate has been much better. Probably one in 10 tries. Ive gotten from 177 to 189 on those.

Going to go back to solstice robes now though, stuff for LoY robes is just to slow to find.

Arctic wyvern masks can be made much cheaper by making the Coldain Velium Temper yourself. Each CVT, if hand made, costs about 10pp as opposed to more than 2.5 times that much when purchased from vendor. You need 4, so you're looking at about 40pp(ish) per arctic wyvern mask combine as opposed to 100+pp per combine.

Considering you're farming everything, hides, cobalt cod, and velium, you should be able to get away with a cheaper cost per combine than the solstice robes.

I've done about 100 Solstice robe combines myself and only got 4-5 skill ups out of it, not to mention 5 successes (/snarl). Those gem studded chains start to eat away at your bank account quickly.

                  hey all,
the thing with CE is pretty easy to solve if you have the time, buy a stack or 2 of solvent. run to seb have your moter and pestle handy as well. kill mobs in seb they drop plat, gems, and different runes and pages which combine with the solvent gives you CE.
I've said it before its the cheap way to make CE, its slow thou, I usually spend a hour or so down in seb and I walk away with at least half a stack of CE make, alot of gems for the gem studded chain and alot of cash
the silk farm it to death in EK if you can forage, forage up tea leaves for brewers to make qeynos afternoon tea, and please enjoy the game, don't let the game beat you

Actually, the easiest way to make CEs is to buy the Solvent and then walk 100feet in PoK, and buy the Scent of Marr, hehe, much easier for me, then take 200 on a raid with ya, and as long as you are not MT, you can get quite a bit done.

                      Humm

Making your own Coldain Velium Temper sucks, not to mention the fact that you will have carpal tunnel from completing all the subcombines; not thanks.

Pooh, I did not realize Scent of Marr was one of the combinable items. Where do you buy them in PoK?

Malodium, welcome to the 190s, please report back with your skill up rate after your first few points in the 190s; I seriously doubt you will have that high of a success rate in the higher end tailoring, or perhaps the force of the RnB is with you and you are the chosen one.

Good luck what ever your chose profession.

                        Well,

I looked up where the Scent of Marr could be purchased. Unbelievable, I was wondering where the bazaar mules I was purchasing essence from were getting all their research components.

THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, all I need to do is decide if it is worth that extra combine; well, I guess it most certainly is.

Thanks for the tip; very much appreciated. I feel so stupid, lol. But, I guess if I was that concerned about paying 4pp/essence I would have looked this up long ago.

                        Thanks again,

Scent of Marr is available from one of the Dark Elves in the room where all the poison vials are sold in PoK. Western trader area, near druid/wizard port in (fisherman's area, if that helps any). If you're standing at the pond, facing away from the solvent merchant, it's the first door on the right when going up the right staircase. When you go into the room, it's the left most dark elf that sells the Scent of Marr. Be careful when buying it from him, it's mixed in with several other poison vials that all have the same graphic. Costs about 31pp per stack.

Alternatively, you can buy it en masse in EC, in the hut across from the batwing vendor. Buying it in EC may prove to be difficult, she's a very picky person and I was only able to buy from her after going into wolf form to change my faction.

Making my own CVT hasn't been the hassle you may think. True, it takes 4 CEs per CVT, but what's one more set of combines after having done thousands upon thousands of CEs and Minotaur Hero Brews? The Coldain Heater for the CVT is all from purchased materials (brown algae from CS is the only one that might be a hassle if you're not a druid/wizard) and making CVT is only 3 total combines (1 for the coldain heater, one for the CE, and then final combine for CVT). At this point in skilling up, that shouldn't be much of a problem. If you haven't gotten carpal tunnel from all that heady kiola for Wu's, CVT isn't gonna push you over the edge.

Spent two hours doing all the subcombines last night for another round of 60 robe attempts.

Got 4 skill ups. From 189 to 193.

Kinda pricey, (I buy everything, no silk farming for me!) and it about breaks my wrist each time (over 1000 combines needed total for those 60 attepmts) but time wise, its not too bad.

Everytime I do it though I swear never to do it again hehe, but I keep going back to it since its so slow collecting the proper research items needed for LoY robes.
