  • 6th Shawl

I failed my thread combine for the 6th shawl for the 2nd time today. My tailoring was 200, and I had a geerlok. The advertised triv for this is 148 (I am talking about the thread, not the final combine). Now, I realise that I may be unlucky, but the odds on this happening are pretty low. The other, and perhaps more significant, thing was that I got no message telling me this combine was trivial. I have it raised in a petition, but was wondering if anyone else had done this combine recently?

    Many thanks

    Corril (AB).

At this point I'd say it's just the good 'ol RNG giving you a run for your money. As far as the lack of a trivial message goes, failure never produces one, only success.

Many thanks. With all the combines I've ever done, never really noticed that you don't get triv messages on a fail. Live and learn I guess.

        Thanks again.

Don't know what class you are, but I found that my tailoring chances increased dramatically as I got DEX buffs. Primarily a Focus of Soul (or Fot7) and a Diaku from a shaman and either NDT or Boon of the Garou from an ench. At 160ish, I didn't fail on the two attempts at the thread...although I did fail the first attempt on the shawl itself...but I got through it and I finished my 7th shawl about 15 minutes later with max DEX.

Stats have no effect on success rate (only skill-up rate), and DEX has no effect on Tailoring anyway.

What Boon Of The Garou technically was for you was a placebo.

Placebo or not, take what you can get.

You never know if confidence may be what makes the combine work.

After all, how many spent the first year of EQ doing Combines with the recipe book open, just because it seemed to work better when you did that.

Well I succeeded on the 6th shawl combines with a geerlok and skill of 134 and I believe that was because I also had the dex buff. Sal

I had no buffs but KEI at the time, succeeded at 118 tailoring with a geerlock (got a skillup too). It's strictly up to the RNG and your modified skill level vs the trivial level.

I tashed myself, dyed my robe light blue, then hailed the banker 3 times before my combine, and it worked!!!!!!!!

Seriously folks, unless SOE has some secret reason to blatantly lie about it, the only factor involved in success or failure is your skill level.

                        Corril,

If it is any consolation, I failed four times on the final combine for this shawl.

Never quite sure if it's nice to hear of others having a miserable time with tradeskills or not.. something of the perverse in there for sure.

I think for me the frustration was more on failing the sub-combine. I kind of hoped that being over 50 points above the triv would give me at least one success. Oh well, time to don my resist gear and go swimming again I guess..

I do feel for ya. I failed a couple times at the final attempt with 200 skill, but I was never unlucky enough to fail on the thread.

                            That just sucks.

Guess the thing is that you tend to remember when things go against you, and ignore the times you succeeded on a combine 50 points above your skill.

Have trophied 2 skills so far, both on the first attempt, so on reflection I probably have nothing to whinge about.
