  • Possibly a useful tool

    Hi all,

Well Ive taken up smithing and had been following some of the guides I found to an extent, but I wanted to work at my own pace and work on items that I found easy to get ingredients for.
Anyway, to do this I created a small spreadsheet. Basically all I have done is taken the info from the Smithing Tables, massaged the data around and formatted it and presented it in a way that is useful to me. I have not really changed any of the data (besides removing what I didnt think I needed). But I have made it so that it is easy to sort, if you know how to use Excel at all, you can easily sort the data on individual colums (ascending or descending) without losing any integrity. This was important to me as I was more interested in the Trivial values than anything else.
I have also added comments to items that needed a bit more said but I did not want to bloat the table with text, so I put comments in as floating text boxes (wherever you see a small red triangle, just hove the mouse over that cell and it will display).

Also, this was made specifically for High Elf smithing. It contains everything I could find that an High Elf can smith. So just about everything is the same for everyone else as well, but for the Cultural Stuff. Of course, if the interest is there I can add more to it.

Anyway, enough talk. Here it is, check it out, tell me what you think.
Just one point, this was made to suit my purposes, if you dont like it that is fine, if you do like it thats cool would appreciate constructive critiscism though.

    hoooooly piece of crap.
that is really really really cool.
that's the sort of thing I wish I could get to while IN game.

And DUDE! row 1 doesn't move, it sits still while the other rows scroll under it! how did you do that?

    that is niftyness, dude.

Click on the first field in the second row, click on Window, then Freeze Panes. I always have to find that one again because it's in such a weird place!

Thanks, Im glad you like it.
As Inyidd has said, to freeze panes you just split the window then freeze panes.

I agree, wish I could access it without leaving the game, but since I know nothing of XML that wont be happening, hehe.

Just in case you are not sure how to sort, just click on any cell that has data in it, then select Data (from the file menu) and Sort. This will give you the option to sort on any colum either ascending or descending. Sorting this way will ensure the data doesnt get mixed up.

i found the sort function by complete and total accident.

I assume when it has a skill of 0, that is completely unknown? ^_^ threw me for a sec when i first saw that.

          uber niftiness. ^_^

Oh yes, sorry I forgot to mention that. Just to keep data in the field, if the Trivial value is unknown I have put a zero in. I intend to scour around and try to find values for those missing, but havent done so yet.

Just an update. Ive added it to the above link.

Ive managed to find many of the trivials that are not listed here on EQTraders, although I have made mention of the source so that you know to take them with a grain of salt.

Ive also zipped the file up to save download time, its only about 50kb now.

As a fellow HIE smith I would like to say Thank you... Also have you considered running your monitor at a higher resolution and running in windows mode to keep both this spreadsheet and EQ up at the same time?

Example Set EQ resolution to 1024x768 and set monitor for 1240x1024 open spread sheet open eq and go into windows mode. Then based on the way you have the sheet set up you should be able to scroll the sheet to the appropriate area so the info is visible for you and you are still in EQ. If you plan on playing in windows mode and having another app open I would suggest 1gig of ram instead of the 512 that SOE needs for EQ.

I suggest 1 gig of ram just to play EQ peroid. For what your talking about I'd suggest at least 2 gig of ram, maybe 3?
