  • Hollowshade Moor Insight and Question

Perhaps it was random, but this strategy has worked the last 3 times I've tried it.

This seems to work when at least the Grimlings and Sonic Wolves are up. I have not had a chance to test it when Owlbears are up and one other faction, nor when all 3 factions are up.

After attacking several mobs surrounding the spawn point of the named ( Grimling or Sonic Wolf) on the southern islands for about 5 minutes tops,

this has caused one of the 2 factions up to begin attacking another camp.

    ** Question **

Has anyone discovered a way to make the named pop at the Vah Shir Outpost, when all but 1 faction has been eliminated? I really need to reset HM zone here, and waiting for eternity on a guide or GM is not pleasant.

Probably just coincidence on the attacks coming 5 minutes after attacking the named. I spent many hours camping the chieftain and his guards (nice loot and the best place to get drops for the wolfbane quest) and rarely saw attacks start at consistent times.

The zones is bugged and has been reported many times about the named not spawning in the Vah Shir outpost. There was some mention of devs looking into it on test server but nothing has come of it yet.

well i had the weirdest thing happen a few days ago

Note i was ALONE in the zone

Ok the grimlings have taken over the owlbears (/cry) but at least the sonic wolves were up so i could farm that

Basically the sonic wolves were attacking the north ExOwlbear Now Grimling camp. I rush over (still alone in zone) and kill the defenders. I wait. I wait. I wait. I NEVER saw the attackers. I saw them when i began my run over to the camp but they never arrived.

Basically i think their "Pathing" fix poofed the attackers into oblivion.

Oh and yesterday the zone was still in the same state with the wolves in their camp with grimlings in the other 2

I finally gave up after a few hours and farmed tenebrous for my substances (then padual for those @#$@#$ wailing ones)

I think I read somewhere that you have to leave at least ONE defender up, when you are helping the attackers take over a camp.

Just hearsay, but that might be why the attackers never made it to the camp.

Truth. You need to let the attackers engage at least one defender,or they despawn.

I wipe all but one,Feign, let the lone defender get attacked and pop up to finish it off.

I can see why shadowscream/hollowshade war has so much false info, so much conflicting reports and so much **** frustration.

My apology to the original poster because I can't answer your question but I couldn't leave the above alone.

Just last night here's the situation. Grimlings, bears and wolves all three up and all three in their default locations (after zone/server reset)...grimlings at their huts and on south islands, bears and wolves in their respective caves. I was sitting right next to the chieftain hut with a 65 druid. We both wanted bears so we could farm them.

            The following happens:
            1. We get the zonewide alert that the owlbears are going to attack the grimlings.
            2. The 5 grimling defenders all spawn. Against my better judgement (had heard the urban legend to leave at least 1 up til bears can engage) the druid ae's and kills ALL 5 defenders about 10 seconds after they pop.
            3. We sit and wait and lo and behold about 30 seconds to a minute later the 4 slowass bear invaders finally stroll on up to the grimling camp and BOOM....bears have now respawned in all the huts and all over the south island.
            3. Happy farming of wailing substances is had by all.

This druid wasted all 5 defenders BEFORE the bear invaders even got close to the camp and had a chance to engage them and the owlbears STILL TOOK OVER.

            Believe it or not....

              ...

Where did the 5 defenders spawn?

The defenders always spawn right in front of the chieftain's hut on the south wall of the zone.

For my part, I killed all the defenders before and never saw the attackers show up. The grimlings remained in control of the south.

                    the war

I too came across a situation where All the mobs were in their default locations. I was trying to get the owlbears in control so I killed the owlbear named which happen to be up. I waited. I expected and attack and nothing. I ran back and forth and at some point I got a zone wide alert. I ran back to the south spot to see defenders. I killed them all and proceded to kill on the main island, shortly there after the owlbear take over was complete. So for me atleast no defenders needed to be present.

I can confirm this yet a second time. I did this myself tonight solo as a 44 warrior. I took down all the defenders and waited for the owlbears to stroll on up to the chieftain hut. Same result...owbears took over.

I can also confirm I have seen a take over when all the defenders have been killed before the attackers arrive.

BTW nice work doing it as a solo 44 warrior. Even at level 50 I was getting killed by the summoning grimling defenders trying to solo it, probably because the timing was such that the grimling healers popped just after I had engaged a defender

Well, Like I said, it was hearsay. *shrug*

I wonder what level my cleric needs to be before he can farm reasonably well out in hollowshade. I don't expect to be able to handle the war any time soon, but I'd like to be able to farm with a reasonably rate of return. He's 34 now.

Kradlum. Well, I'm fairly well twinked and a fungi goes a long way in helping. Actually, I played around with it several hours and would time how long I would need between taking out all the healers and when the defenders would pop. I got right at the far edge of the defenders where only one could reach me and killed him and then repeated for the others staying just out of melee of all but the one I was fighting. I never got summoned once. Those healers do suck though...bad.

I started farming substances at 35 and it was slooooow. I only got tops 15 shrieking per hour which is still better than paludal but still slow slow. At 44 now, I can get about 20-25 (25 is really really pushing it) shrieking per hour and roughly the same or slightly more wailings. When I see the ae'ers come in and get 50-70 per hour I just want to quit. Ah well, that's the life of a zero utility straight melee class.

Balkin, I don't know when clerics get their first ae or what it does damage wise but at least you can relax in knowing that you'll be able to farm these things easy doing the ae route. I'd just level up first and get your ae and do it that way. At 34, it'll take you a long time to farm enough to make it worth it.

Also, thanks again for all the previous info Kradlum. It's helped me tons to figure out that war and get the ball rolling on that endless farming.

                              Warning

The last two times I wanted to kill some owlbears I had to petition for a zone reset. While waiting for the owlbears to attack, I got a message that the grimlings were attacking the owlbears - NO! The first time I figured that since I was the only one in the zone it shouldn't be a problem- I was wrong. The grimlings took out the owlbears The second time the grimlings attacked the owlbears again. This time I ran over there to help keep the defenders alive. Well, the grimlings never engaged the owlbear defenders. They just walked around them and into the cave and *poof* all the owlbears are gone. So, be farwarned- if you want owlbears you will need to actively defend the owlbears and make sure no grimlings walk into the cave. Good luck
