    Absolutely, definitely NOT true.

I've done the hollowshade war many times and killed the defenders in the southern camp as soon as they popped. The attackers made it through just fine.

Yeah :/ I've never actually seen this happen myself, but many times I've got on an hour or two after a patch to find the grimlings have already wiped out the bears. I've never seen anyone farming the grimlings for ore either, so doubt it was done with active player involvement.

The HS wars need a huge amount of babysitting to get them into a desirable state, be prepared to run and kill those evil grimlings whenever they start wandering.

How rare/common are the substances now? I was in hollowshade last night and got exactly zero of either substance in about 1 hour of killing in the chief hut in the south camp. The south camp switched sides 3 times in that hour.

The substances drop primarily on the islands, and only very rarely up the wall by the chief hut in the south (or anywhere else in the zone).

I've spent many weeks in HM so I thougth I'd post some observations:

Pay attention to the zonewide messages. There are many different ones. All will tell you who is attacking who, but not always where the attack will take place, if the defenders have 2 zones.

You can't hear the zonewide messages is you are far back in the Owlbear cave.

Sometimes Defenders do not spawn. The zonewide message will mention it, but not always.

As mentioned in previous messages in this thread, you do not have to leave a defender up for the attack to take place if everything is working.

Killing the Grimling Chieftain does not _always_ mean the owlbears will attack the Grimlings. Killing Growlik or his PH in the wolf cave does not mean the South camp will attack the wolves. Killing the Owlbear Denmother or PL does not mean the wolves will attack the Owlbears. It's all random to a point, and seems to get worse the longer the server is up.

If one mob holds 2 areas, it is more likely that the mob holding one zone will attack the mob holding 2 zones. I'd guess at 66%. one time we had the Attackers come from the wolf cave 9 or 10 times in a row, no matter what Chieftain/Denmother/Growlik/PH we killed.

If you are hunting for Sonic Wolf Bane Weapon parts, try to get all the classes making parts in the zone while hunting. The wandering Owlbears and Sonic Wolves have been drastically reduced (from 1 to 2 dozen mobs, to 3 to 5 mobs), making it a time consuming process.

If the war is NOT going on YES killing the chief means the owls will attack, Yes killing the wolf named means the grimlings will attack and yes killing the owlbear named means the wolves will attack FIRST. The first attack is scripted as to what named is killed to START the war. However after the war is started any camp can attack or be attacked HOWEVER east will only attack north, North only attacks South, and South will only attack East so knowing what mob is where is key to getting the mobs you want in the camps you want.

I can offer some insight on the war rotation if it helps you assist one race to take over the zone so you can reset it.

The rotations work in counter-clockwise rotation. For example, right after a zone reset (I mean right after, it will go on it's own if you don't start it), if I go kill the Grimling Chieftain, the Owlbears will attack the south. It has happened 100% of the times that I killed grimling chieftain after a zone reset.

Once a race takes over, the remaining race will attack the spot counter clockwise to them. So if OBs take the south, and they have the North, the wolves will now attack North. If grimlings take the North and they have the South, then the next attack will be by Wolves and they will go North. When Wolves take the North, and they have the SOuth, the whatever race is in the South will attack North. This has happened 100% of the times that I have observed.

The only part I am unclear on is how many times the remaining race, that has 1 camp, will attack the dominating race.

Another example, right after zone reset, if I kill the Denmaster or Skrietat, the the Wolves will attack north. If I kill the Wolf named right after zone reset, the Grimlings will attack East. Etc...

So if you want Wolves in the South after zone reset, you would want to kill the grimling chieftain (because grimlings are sowed when they attack, and it's **** hard to chase them and kill them as a melee with no snare), and have OBs take over. Then the wolves will attack North, kill the defenders so they take over. OBs will now attack East since they are the underdog race, let them take East. When OBs take East, Wolves will be underdog, so they will attack South. Kill defenders and Wolves will take over.

I'm 99% sure this is the way the war works, since I have worked it for OBs to win 7 times now to get the Owlbear Mother Eye. RNG doesnt like me.

If anyone has any corrections, feel free...I'm always looking for more ways to manipulate the war.
