My burning question (so to speak)

      1. I have the XTC hammer.
      2. I have a good chance of getting the VT gauntlets.

Do the modifiers stack.. i.e. is it possible to get 30% to smithing?

192 is sufficient for EE rings

There's been some mild debate whether getting a skill-up using a 15% modifiying item and a raw skill of 192 was possible doing EE rings. There's another thread in the forum that someone who was 192 and had a 15% modifying item got to 193 in three tries doing EE rings.

Wow... I went to Hollowshade today and found the wolves up. Just by myself, snagging 8-10 at a time, I got a stack in 30 minutes. Not the fastest, but still pretty good! Beats farming the mugs of seafoam anyway. I appreciate this guide, it was a big help.

Things can be pretty chaotic in Hollowshade now. The switches come very fast sometimes -- sometimes as little as five minutes between switches. Happened to me the other day with wolves; a bunch of post-60 characters including yours truly were trying to keep wolves up, but the war kept switching like crazy, and during one turn, the wolves came out and took over the southern isles for only a few minutes before switching. I got only two shrieking substances(I two-box a 63 shaman and 60 monk), two other 60's casters got only 1 substance between them, and one lucky 50'ish ranger got 2 substances. Then POW, the mobs changed again on us.

Combine the rapid changes in HSM with the occasional person killing nameds for loot, and I find farming hollowshade far more difficult now. The other weekend, by the time I got only 33 shrieking substances, I had well over 200 wailing substances. After a lot more hunting all weekend, when I mostly just refused to loot any more wailing, I still have over 100 wailing sitting in the bank, no more shrieking.

                  just a comment

Any post including XTC hammer should include, Ijust started smithing yesterday and I finished today. Talk about smithing made easy.
Getting this item should be in any high levels quick guide to smithing.
