  • Tempers for cultrial smithing

    Greets,

I have been away for almost a year but was persuaded to rejoin my guild/friends on CT. I come back to find my vault still full of all these (old) temper ingrendents. I smith elven mithril, but in my collecting ive come accross tons of other stuff. So I saved it (been 2 years worth).

So i go over and check out bazaar and i can't belive it. people are selling these tempers for 900p (CT)! Can this be right?? The ingredents alone can go from 20p to over 500.

How can anyone smith like this, paying that much for them. Is there that much money floating around that people can afford 900+p for a chance at a piece of cultrial? I know CT is an old server, but I just can't belive it.

I saw the new recipes. Ive seen the stats on some of the top end pieces. And, yes there are some good ones. Maybe as good as some high end drops (w/o the hassles of campn something).

Im just wondering, for you GM smiths out there, do you sell any/some/alot of your cultrial?

Is it worth putting sets together?

Do you pay for your tempers or farm the components?

As a GM elven smith (GM before GM was cool) I plan on at least useing up the banked tempers.components i have for moonlight. And id rather craft than xp, so my heart is in it.

I just don't know if my purse is...

    Thoughts?

Farm it all. I'm an elven smith as well, and since they've added morning dew as a mob drop, it's gotten a lot easier to get tempers together.

Getting enough Essence of Moonlight for 20 tempers takes one evening. Swirling Mist takes another, and Morning Dew takes about 2 evenings to collect enough for tempers and the subcombines.

Well i farm my components (I'm an elven smith of the true dark elven royalty)

It just isn't worth it to me to pay excessive prices for stuff.

I just wish there was a way for players to give blood. I know a few iksar who would glady give up some of their blood so i could make a few more Tae Ew shields

        Swirling Mist Questions

Where is the best place to farm swirling mists? Steamfront mist elementals or najena? What are the placeholders for the elementals and what part of the zone are they from.

        Any help is appreciated.

All Steamfont mobs near the Mino caves are place holders for the Elementals (Earth and Steam). Najena again all Elementals are place holders for other elementals. Just keep the killing going.

I generally pay the insane asking price on temper ingredients because...

Based on a 40-45 percent success rate, it costs roughly 4k to make a Heraldic BP. I sell it for 16k.

I only take pre-orders, making nothing in advance. The only exception is if I have the desired armor made for an alt, then I will sell that piece and replace it later. By only taking pre-orders, my investment is quickly replaced with profit. I could fail 7 times on a BP and still not take a loss.

Agree with fallwell. I also am a human smith, and Essence of sunlight is a "royal" pain in the arse to get. Especially in any quantity. I farm all I can, and buy any I find, for up to my personal price caps.

I only premake certain pieces of Fierce heraldic, and have sold several bp's and greaves, for over 20k each. I've sld quite a few bracers, and a couple other pieces.

Everything else is to order. I've gotten orders for luminant, and hateful heraldic so far.

900pp. Chump change, when the BP goes for 20-25k

Now HIE BP (Blessed full mithril)on my server sells for 10k, due to way too many elf smiths. At that price, i might balk at 900pp for a temper.

I have seen Shadow Temper being sold for 700pp (or at least offered for that price). I only have one thing to say about: no freakin' way.

Shadow essence is a bit of a pain to farm but no more so than other post-188 farmed items. In Lavastorm I can get up to 15-20 shadowed essence an hour if I'm having a decent hunting day.

I WILL occasionally buy essence of shadow when I see it for a good price. Occasionally you will find people who have some as a leftover from looking for the shadowed rapier who don't know what they have. Best price I saw it for recently was 9 for 8pp each -- of course I bought all she had.

Elven blood is so plentiful these days with Gunthak that that is no longer a real issue.

Some months ago I used to sell frost tempers for about 150pp each, when I was camping the tundra yetis in DL. I thought that was a fair price.

I did buy a half stack of combine acrylia temper last week for 350pp each, which is **** good for the windstones alone. I turned them into BPs and greaves that I made with farmed acrylia and turned a very tidy profit.

It really depends on the offering price of the item and the end prices you can get with what you make.

                  Buy it

There is a ton of money to be made in cultural smithing. You need to have some deep pockets to make big money and sometimes that takes time. At this point I will drop 30-40k to get enough for 40 to 50 sheets or rings and then make the stuff and put it on a mule. As it sells you replenish.

As you are building your bank account, farm the stuff, but there will come a time when you find that it is much more cost/time effective to know the market and buy all the components in the bazaar.

Bazaar prices for temper ingredients can vary widely. By being patient you can often buy up expensive stuff cheaply from people who don't know the true value of a relatively rare drop (or just forget to type that extra "0"). Dummies like me who didn't know anything about Tae Ew smithing will sell iksar blood for 5pp each when no one else has any up for sale and has nothing to compare to....

Of course it works the opposite way too. This morning I was looking for akheva blood in the Bazaar and four different people were all selling it for 2500pp each (!) When you consider black acyrlia weapons go for about 2k each on our server you can see the little problem here. Presumbably the first person just pegged theirs at a ludicrous price and everyone else who put up their traders later had no idea what it was worth and just followed suit.

Unless akheva blood has uses I am not aware of, of course....

Araon, your 100% right. People end up with stuff that they don't know the value of, but they've been told that its worth something. They come up with an arbitrary price and others come along and follow suit. Some of the people who come along afterward DO know the price and are happy to charge just a little less than the others to give the impression that they are giving a better price. My personal policy is to never buy from these kind of people. Sometimes for whole weeks items will be priced rediculously high as more and more people come along and try to match the prevailing price point. Eventually they will undercut each other until the item reaches the more appropriate price range and then stuff will start to sell. That is the only time I will consider buying it. Those kind of things can be farmed with just a little effort, and you are not contributing to the wrecking of the market by buying/selling at unnatural prices.

I've seen small pieces of ore for sale is the bazaar for 2pp each. Not HQ or acrylia or anything just plain old standard ore - the stuff you buy from vendors for a few silver each I've also seen large bricks of HQ for sale for 30pp, when the merchant just round the corner will sell them to me for 18

But I refuse to pay 200pp for a lava rock - that's just too insane

I'm not a GM smith or even remotely close, but I buy elven blood all the time in the bazaar, and it's costing me quite a bit of money. But, I am so busy camping shadowscream that there's not enough time to camp elven blood too. By spending a lot of money up front, I have so far gotten a couple of hundred elven bloods all told without spending any real time doing it -- about 130 turned into tempers so far, the rest yet to come. It's a fair amount of cash, but will be worth it when I get high enough level smithing to make some money on my product.

Have to say I won't pay the price for tempers either. At this time i can farm the components I need myself. Yes it take time but the risk of throwing away up to 20k for 20 combines just for tempers? that is in my books insane.

I too am farming Shadow scream components. I'm lucky that I have understanding guildies who let me snag Tae Ew blood for future use when we hit CT. On Xegony people are asking 2-4k for a single vial.

DE tempers aren't fun but not that hard to gain the ingredients as it is. I've taken to asking for double the ingredients when I'm combining for friends and guildies allows me to make combines that I can make money off at a later date without directly charging my firends.

For me, an occasional peaceful evening spent chant and swarm-kiting seafuries to the gentle sound of the waves in the Ocean of Tears lapping against the beach is a relaxing break from my guild's raiding schedule. Plus I can help out should the corrupted make an appearance.

I have a low-level alt on another account who lives on Sisters Isle. He's quite the fisherman for 6th level. Sure, it takes him a while to gather many seaweeds, but it gives me something to do while the raid force is gearing up (or we're recovering from a wipe).

Now, I do buy the Coldain velium tempers in the bazaar since I've become KoS to CoV (the only source for brown algae spice is in Cobalt Scar). As long as they're priced reasonably compared to the vendor in Thurg, that is.
