I've made a couple backpacks full of coldain velium tempers myself. Saved myself an awful lot of money doing it, too. But what a lot of time spent! Each one requires four celestial essences for the second combine, so a backpack full awaiting only combines with celestial essences requires four backpacks of celestials! Not counting failures.... And I made two backpacks full, so well over eight backpacks of celestials made.

Even though I saved a good deal of money, maybe 10k all told, I spent so much time and it was so boring that I really don't think I want to do it again. I think I'd rather just buy it and spend the time I WOULD have spent making it out hunting for loot to make up for the cash lost. Same thing with camping blood or foraging for hours and hours. Sometimes a single session in a place like Cazic or Sebilis can buy an awful lot of bloods/forages/enchants/imbues in the market.

I did buy a half stack of combine acrylia temper last week for 350pp each, which is darn good for the windstones alone.
Dam Zera, on Fennin I have a friend selling my windstones at 400pp each. I'm still amazed they sell. (though the low end selling price has dropped to 250 each...way too expensive to make selling acrylia bps for 2k proffitable.)

I have been away for almost a year but was persuaded to rejoin my guild/friends on CT. I come back to find my vault still full of all these (old) temper ingrendents. I smith elven mithril, but in my collecting ive come accross tons of other stuff. So I saved it (been 2 years worth).
As you can see, what you can make with those old ingredients are some wonderful things. Personaly I'd hold on to the ones you can't use till you can find someone to trade you what you want for what you have. If your realy strapped for plat though...
Oh, and its relativly easy to get a GM smith to make you something if you give them bunches of what they need (would anyone here turn down a trade of 1 cultural bp for 1 stack of ready made temper? anyone? How about 1 cultural bp for the ingredients to make 6? anyone?). Not every smith will go for it, but more than likely you'll find one that will IF you look hard enough.

P.S. Najena has a better drop rate than steamfront. I think twilight air elementals (or was it water? been months) have the same drop rate as Najena, could be slightly worse. If you can hack it, Twilight is a heck of alot more interesting than Najena. Oh, and check the vendor in the castle on the same island, I can usualy find 1 or 2 lava rocks there per week (too bad I'm a High Elven Smith) and the occasional other goodie (like swirling mist).
Tailoring, why did I ever start tailoring? *sob*

I farm as much as I can. Seeing Royal Temper for sale for 2K each makes me sad. Although seeing the same 20 Royal temper for 2K each sit in the bazaar for 3 weeks now without moving does make up for it a little.

I'll pay what I consider to be reasonable prices for temper ingredients, but with the market become more competitive and mature, I'm not going to support rising prices on components.

I farm traders in Bazaar for temper components and velium. I basically have a striking price for components that I'll buy at, and I keep a large supply on hand (40-80 cultural tempers) so if some wave of insanity goes through the market I can afford to wait it out. Course it takes up bank space - but I'm never in the situation "I need to buy X for this order NOW!" Plus it lets me fill orders in 15 minutes, which customers appreciate - no "come back in a few hours."

[Oh, Mierril, count me as someone who will pass up on the stack of tempers for a BP. 'Course ogre and dorf tempers are relatively cheap, but having 3 stacks in stock helps as well. ]

The bazaar prices fluctuate wildly from dirt cheap to ludicrous, as players have no idea what they have or what the economics of the market is. One player who shall remain nameless is still trying to sell a Blue Slumber Fungus for the bargain price of 1k - it's been there since a month after bazaar opened up.
