  • Highest of strength, int and wis === True, garbage or broken

Have just waded through most of the smithing threads looking for information on this. FAQ says definitely its the highest of str, int and wis which affects skillups. However, I can't find anyone who has got over 200 in smithing without 200 plus int.

If you have high str, low int and low wis and you have made it over 200 skill please stick a reply in with your stats. Here are mine:-

Smithing 192 ( 200 combines for my last skillup)
    Str 255
    Wis 65
    Int 57

Incidentally - I am running at 80pct success rate for those 200 combines

    I don't have over 200 STR, but I don't have over 200 INT either. I'm a WIS guy.

Drunken smithing was pretty popular for a time-- I'm sure you'll find the 200 STR crowd is still out there.

I personally am a WIS guy. I do have several friends (aquaintences) and seen many people on the board who all did their combines with STR. While my score has yet to break 200 (due mostly to time) I know many other smiths who have also gotten it up with Wisdom.

The RNG is a cruel mistress. Having personally gone over 300 combines in 8 months since my last skillup, I know this can happen. I have seen others though with the Same relative attributes blow through the 190s-200s at an average of 20 combines/skill.

I assure you it's normal. Though extremely frustrating.

          str/int/wis

I made a human SK just to smith. He is lvl 40, got him just high enough to farm for shadow scream so I had another route to skill up. Mostly I just to Freeport cultural for skill ups, so I can stay very close to the next trivial level. I do use a geerlok. His stats buffed are:

          Str: 248
          Int: 148

I went from 188 to 206 in 160 attempts. The first 20 attempts I got 4 skill ups. The next 20 attempts I got 3 skill ups. Then I got a few runs of 30 or 40 attempts before my next skill up. At which time I got 2 or 3 skillups within a couple of attempts again. Overall I have been very happy with my skill ups, and with the geerlok and staying close to trivial levels I have a 95 percent plus success rate on attempts. I believe that strength does have a direct affect just like intelligence. I first read that hear a couple of years ago, and that was supposed to be straight from a developer at VI. I have also seen this to be true with dex affecting tailoring. My wife casts boon of garou on herself when ever she does tailoring combines and it makes a noticeable difference for her.

Barbarian Warrior with both Wis and Int in the 80 range. I get my Str buffed to over 250 when skilling up and I currently have a blacksmith skill of 214.

              i smith with 255 str and about 80 wis/int.

210 smithing...works just fine. i get about 1 imp in 20-30 shadowscream combines. Sometimes more and that was only working shadowscream from 196-210..had i KNOWN about the str thing long ago, i wouldnt have been working with like 160 int to get to 196 hehe

Upped both my iksar shaman and gnome enchanter in smithing. The gnome went int, obviously. Worked good. The shaman went str, since at the time, Focus of Spirit stacked with the shaman strength line. Both skilled up equally fast and skill up rate was noticably lower when the shamans str buff dropped, lowering his strength below 200.

I was smithing with my barbarian before they added STR as a secondary stat for smithing. With both INT and WIS in the <75 range, I saw an amazing increasing in skill up rates after the change.

                      Thanks

Thanks for the replies - guess I am just on a really long run of bad luck. Will endeavour to persevere.

Just ask an ogre, we're the expert on high strength and zero brain capabilities. I am a 201 smith, smithing STR 255, WIS and INT both about 70. Not to cast aspersions on the brainiac races, but my skillup rate seems to be faster than those who use INT or WIS, although I am a statistically insignificant survey.

My smith is a human monk, base wis/int/str all below 100. When smithing for skillups, I don str gear, and grab a focus/HOS from a friendly shaman, plus a C3 if I can get one. Str is 249-255+, wis is about 140, Int is probably below 100. 235 or 236 last time I checked my skill, with decent skillup rates. I've been averaging an increase every 10-15 attempts, working mostly imbued field plate, with occasional shadowscream, plate acrylia, and Heraldic.

I may be completely wrong on this, but I do know that if you have a skill under 75 you actually get a penalty. For those that doubt this, compare a Dark Elf Warrior's skill ups after levelling to an Ogre's, you'll find the DE maxes their skills very shortly while the Ogre may max their's by the time they level again.

In short, I run with the principle that I should get my Int and Wis up over 100 (just to be sure) and max my Str. Int is easy as you just need to get a C3 every 3 hours or so.

I started out using Wisdom as my main attribute but even with wis gear and KEI was never more than 202 in wisdom. I made it to 205 this way. I am now at 223 and I use strength which I can max out with a HoS buff and actually see no difference in the amount of skill ups. My wis is a 145 because I use my strength gear instead now. My opinion is that it all depends on the RNG which is a fickle little demon. I find that it can take 30 to 60 combines for 1 or 2 points and with the materials we have to choose from for skilling up it is a long slow process. I am making Heraldic and PoP Planar Armors to sell in the bazaar to support my smithing habit while using acrylia to skill up as well.
